Bamboo has one of the highest growth rates among plants, however, its lignifications (which confers resistance) takes around a few years and, therefore, certain physical characteristics and mechanical, that depend on this process will only be acquired between the three to six years old. In addition, bamboo also has significant density variations in different parts of the stem, both in the radial direction as the axial. In particular the radial direction, where the density found in the inner and outer (near the bark) of a single stem can range on average from 0.5 to 0.9 g/cm3. Thus, the application of bamboo as a floor, there to examine whether both sides of the bamboo (internal and external), provide resistance properties required for that purpose. In this study sought to characterize and quantify the influence of the concentration of fiber bundles in the inner and outer sides of rules or bamboo strips of bamboo flooring through testing service. Analyses performed were based on ASTM D 2394- 83 for wooden floors and derivatives. This was necessary because of the absence of a specific prohibition of the use and testing of floors made of bamboo and its products. The data were analyzed by ball indentation test shooting, test for resistance to abrasion, indentation test for stress / load treadmill test and by indentation loads applied to small areas - test the jump. The results of the tests were extremely friendly bamboo, even this presents considerable differences between the resistances obtained from assay of the cover of the inner and outer face, being comparable with those of many commonly used to manufacture wood flooring. Volleyball is a sport in which the laterality dominant limb shows superior strength and coordination because of its preferential use. Asymmetrical tendencies during the landing after the jump when striking or blocking actions are predominant for most part of game (ARRUDA; EDUARDO, 2008). Adaptations include imbalance of forces in static and dynamic motions at the knee joint, which increases risk for injury. Also, asymmetries in balance control during jumping and landing associate with a general postural instability that can be observed during static balance tasks. The purpose of this study was to investigate relationship between unequal lower limb strength (muscle imbalance) and postural stability levels in volleyball athletes and non-athletes. Nine female volleyball athletes and 10 active non-athletes participated in this study. Four encouters with participants were scheduled: three encounters in the bodybuilding gymnasium to collect anthropometric measures (weight, height for BMI, thigh circumference, which provided an initial diagnosis about asymmetry), and to perform the isometric strength test (i.e., leg press using a load cell and a force transducer to calculate uni an bilateral strength). The last encounter was in the laboratory where a balance test on a force platform was administered under five test conditions, with three repetitions each: baseline (natural standing position), one-leg standing, right side, with full vision (D_CV), and blindfolded (D_SV), one-leg standing, left side, with full vision (E_CV), and blindfolded (E_SV). The stability levels were evaluated using the path length parameters which was based on the total displacement of the center of pressure (DTCP). . Both groups shows asymmetric strength levels between legs, with better performance for the right leg. The present study aimed to analyze the performance of 'boost' among water polo athletes. Twelve athletes (13,9  1,08 years, 169,0  6,0 cm and 59,5  13,5 kg of bodyweight) were under went to anthropometric assessment, body composition and maximum concentric strength of lower limbs. The jump test in the water was done by 'boost' and scaled to jump height. According to the results of strength (Leg Press 45: 157,08  43,30 kg Leg Extension: 72,08  12,86 kg), anthropometry (arm circumf.: 26,04  3,25 cm, thigh circumf.: 50,47  7,65 cm, sholder circumf.: 95,97  8,00 cm, elbow diam.: 4,74  0,51 cm, wrist diam.: 3,21  0,34 cm, knee diam.: 7,89  0,58 cm, biacromial diam.: 37,49  3,81 cm and bi-iliac diam.: 25,43  4,34 cm) and body composition (BMI: 20,74  4,00 kg / m² and% fat: 8,45  4,28), only stature showed a linear correlation (r= 0,595) to the values of vertical jump (height: 47,80  4,35 cm) performance. This anthropometric variable was one able to influence the height of performance by modifying it self, perhaps by maturity. However maturity may be an implicity feature of performance, since force is a concerned effect of the growth. Otherwise technique could play a mains role to the performance of the 'boost'. It can be conclude that possibly is advantageous for water polo athlete be higher and more mature for the realization of 'boost', and the training directed for the technique, but is necessary muscle fitness for the holder

There is little information on Caribbean soccer players. Thus, the aim this study was to descriptive and to compare the anthropometric, motor and aerobic fitness profile between Trinidad and Tobago team professional and junior soccer players. Twenty six soccer players were evaluated (14 professional and 12 junior): anthropometric (height, body mass, BMI, body fat percent), flexibility (sit and reach), velocity (30 m), explosive strength (horizontal and vertical jump), anaerobic power (maximum, mean and minimum power, index of fatigue) and maximum aerobic power. Student Test-t to independent sample was used in statistical analyzes, considering 5% of significance (p<0,05). Results of professional and junior players were, respectively: height (180,6 ± 8,1; 175,0 ± 6,9 cm), body mass (77,1 ± 7,5; 70,6 ± 8,7 kg); BMI (23,6 ± 1,5 / 23,0 ± 1,6 kgm 2 ); body fat (11,9 ± 1,7; 11,6 ± 1,2 %); sitting and reaching (24,9 ± 10,3; 24,9 ± 7,7 cm); velocity (30 m) (4,61 ± 0,14; 4,66 ± 0,15 s); horizontal jump (263,4 ± 14,9; 239,7 ± 12,1 cm); vertical jump (58,7 ± 4,3; 54,6 ± 6,6 cm); maximum power (7,9 ± 0,9; 6,6 ± 0,8 w∙kg-1 ); mean power (6,5 ± 0,7; 5,4 ± 0,9 w∙kg-1 ); minimum power (5,3 ± 0,7; 4,3 ± 1,1 w∙kg-1 ); index of fatigue (33,0 ± 7,9; 34,8 ± 12,8 %); aerobic power (55,0 ± 3,2; 57,2 ± 4,8 ml∙kg-1 ∙min-1 ). Professional players presented higher horizontal jump and maximum, mean and minimum anaerobic power in comparing to the junior players. The highest values of power tests for the lower limbs may be relationship to the longer time of practice in the modality of professional players, which can also indicate a higher level of specialization, which gives priority to the training of power (force and velocity).

The aim of the present study were: 1) To verify the relationship of vertical, horizontal and sextuple jumps with agility and velocity of 5, 10 and 25 m; 2) To verify the capacity of these jumps to predict the agility and 5, 10 and 25 m velocity performance in children. Twenty eight boys (9.47 ± 0.64 years) and thirty girls (9.69 ± 0.70 years) were evaluated. The correlation values between agility and velocity on 5, 10 and 25 m velocity were, respectively, r = 0.63, 0.51, 0.44 and 0.64 with vertical jump, r = 0.68, 0.62, 0.28 and 0.62 with sextuple jump, and r = 0.60, 0.50, 0.26 and 0.57 with horizontal jump. The vertical and sextuple jumps were able to predict the agility and 25 m velocity performance (p < 0.05). Furthermore, they demonstrated capacity to predict 5 and 10 m velocity, respectively (p < 0.05). The vertical and sextuple jump tests may be used for assessment and control of training with children practicing activities that require agility and velocity, since both jumps predicted the agility and velocity performance, which did not occur with the horizontal jump.

Twenty-four masters swimmers participated in the study (42.0 ± 7.4 years, 1.74 ± 0.09 m, 74.8 ± 14.1 kg). Countermovement jump (CMJ) and 3 kg medicinal ball throwing (BM) were performed. At a 25 m swimming pool, each subject completed a maximal 50 m front crawl swim with in water start, 25 and 50 m performances (T25, T50) were recorded. Anaerobic critical velocity (AnCV) was determined by the slope of the distance-time relationship (Dd-t) in the two swimming distances. T25 and T50 (respectively 19.0 ± 2.7-sec and 38.8 ± 6.4-sec) were correlated with CMJ (27.2 ± 5.0 m) (respectively, r = -0.78 and -0.73, p < 0.01), and BM (4.3 ± 1.0 m) (r = -0.68 and - 0.58, p < 0.01). AnCV25,50 (1.31 ± 0.23 m.s-1 ) was correlated with T25 (r = -0.92, p < 0.01 ) and T50 (r = -0.98, p < 0.01). The strength parameters turn out to be important in aquatic performance in masters swimmers and AnCV may be relevant in the training of masters swimmers.

Sabe-se que o atletismo vem sendo pouco ensinado nas aulas de Educação Física das escolas brasileiras, dadas justificativas tais como: falta de materiais e de espaço, falta de interesse dos alunos ou o fato do professor não saber como ensiná-lo. Pensando em formas para motivar o ensino do atletismo na escola, verificamos a possibilidade de utilização de videogames, já que, desde os mais antigos, o atletismo tem aparecido com uma das modalidades esportivas que podem ser jogadas virtualmente. Nesse sentido, o objetivo dessa pesquisa foi identificar os jogos de videogames relacionados ao atletismo, analisando, em um deles, isto é, no Kinect Sports (Xbox 360), as proximidades e distanciamentos em relação à modalidade esportiva oficial, a fim de se verificar suas possibilidades pedagógicas. A análise deste videogame revelou que este possui características que podem ajudar o professor no ensino do atletismo, já que aborda algumas de suas regras e movimentos específicos, particularmente, da corrida de velocidade, lançamento do dardo, salto em distância, lançamento do disco e corrida com barreiras. Entretanto, o videogame apresenta fragilidades em relação as características antes apontadas, as quais merecem ser realçadas pelo professor de Educação Física em suas aulas. Conclui-se, portanto, que são várias as possibilidades pedagógicas deste jogo de videogame para o ensino do atletismo em aulas de Educação Física, desde que haja uma apropriação devida por parte do professor
