Estudo teórico da contribuição do espalhamento nuclear não elástico na trajetória de prótons de energias entre 50 e 250 MeV em materiais de interesse em radiologia: aplicação em tomografia com prótons

The goal of this work is to study the process of interaction of protons with matter through Monte Carlo simulation. For this purpose, it was employed the SRIM program (Stopping and Range of Ions in Matter ) and MCNPX (Monte Carlo N-Particle eXtended) v2.50. This work is going to support the development of a tomography system with protons. It was studied the interaction of proton with the follow materials: Polimethyl Mehacralate (PMMA), MS20 Tissue Substitute and water. This work employed energies in range of 50 MeV and 250 MeV, that is the range of clinical interest. The energy loss of proton after cross a material layer, the decreasing of its intensity, the angular and lateral de ection of incident beam, including and excluding nuclear interactions. This work is related with Medical Physics and Material Physics, like interaction of radiation with matter, particle transport phenomena, and the experimental methods in Nuclear Physics like simulation and computational by Monte Carlo method

Expressão gênica dos receptores nicotínicos de acetilcolina (nAChR) e caracterização morfológica das junções neuromusculares em músculo esquelético de ratos com insuficiência cardíaca

A insuficiência cardíaca (IC) está associada à miopatia dos músculos esqueléticos com aumento da expressão das isoformas rápidas da cadeia pesada de miosina e alterações na matriz extracelular. Os fatores de regulação miogência(MRF),como a MyoD e MRF4, pertecem a uma família de fatores transcricionais que controlam vários genes músculo-específicos.Esses fatores forma heterodímeros com proteínas HLH e ligam-se a seqüências de DNA conhecidas como Ebox, presentes na região promotora de vários genes músculo–específicos, incluindo todos aqueles que codificam as subunidades dos receptores nicotínicos de acetilcolina (nAChR) da junção neuromuscular (JNM). Baseado no fato de que na IC há uma diminuição na expressão da MyoD e MRF4 no músculo sóleo de ratos com IC induzida por monocrotalina, o objetivo do presente trabalho é verificar possíveis alterações na expressão dos receptores de acetilcolina, bem como realizar uma análise morfológica e morfométrica das JNMs. Neste estudo foram utilizados ratos Wistar, machos, divididos em grupos controle e experimental e a Insuficiência cardíaca (IC) foi induzida pela injeção de monocrotalina intra-peritoneal.Quando os sintomas de IC foram visualizados (após 22 dias) os animais foram sacrificados pentobarbital sódico i.p. (50 mg/Kg). A seguir foram mensurados o peso corporal (PC) dos ratos, bem como outros parâmetros. O músculo sóleo de ambos os antímeros foram dissecados e preparados para: avaliação da expressão gênica das subunidades ε, γ e α dos receptores de acetilcolina por PCR em Tempo Real; para análise morfológica e morfométrica da Junção Neuromuscular através da técnica de Esterase inespecífica; para análise ultra-estrutural da JN. Os rumos do desenvolvimento nos anos 50: as visões da Cepal e de Roberto Campos Araraquara – SP 2012

In the decade of 1950, the economic policies almost in their entirety, are aimed at promoting domestic industry, culminating finally in the most consistent action planned in favor of industrialization in the economic history of Brazil: the Plano de Metas (Goal’s Plan). This study aims to analyze the Brazilian planning at this moment studying the proposals in the economic thought of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and Roberto de Oliveira Campos, divergent, but both connected to important reports of the Brazilian economy developed in the period, which served as the basis for policies at the period and even Goal’s Plan, and with enormous influence on the decisions of the 50s. The first one was the most important school of thought in the Third World. Campos was one of the most important thinkers of the economy in the period, one of the most consistent critics of ECLAC, and their proposals were very close to what was actually executed. The paper concludes that, despite the importance of ECLAC thought, this encountered difficulties applying workable solutions to economic growth. The eclectic tone of Roberto Campos brought clarity to his proposals, and these, when applied, have led to growth

Mudança social e cultural no Brasil nos últimos 50 anos: cenário e perspectivas para a melhoria do ensino público

Thinking about improving public education in Brazil means thinking not just what we wish to develop competencies and skills in individuals, but understands clearly identify the type of citizens who are training and what kind of society we want for the future. So if there are social and cultural changes they should have their comtraponto within the classroom considering education steeped in culture and therefore in the forms of modern communication. The challenge for school education is to show the students inside the classroom, as will be outside.

Impacto da saúde bucal na qualidade de vida de pacientes maiores de 50 anos de duas instituições públicas do município de Araraquara-SP

Introduction: Oral health can affect quality of life, and the OHIP-14 index (Oral Health Impact Profile) is useful for evaluating this impact. Objective: to investigate the impact of oral health conditions on the quality of life of patients over  50  years, assessing, initially, the consistency of the short form of the Oral Health Impact Profile index (OHIP-14). Material and method: A cross-sectional study was performed among 149 patients of two public institutions for routine dental (UNESP) and medical practice (Municipal). They were interviewed using the OHIP-14 formulary, assessing its internal consistency (Cronbach´s alpha coefficient) and the OHIP-mean (additive method). The patients were distributed according to sex, age, and education level. The comparisons of interest were made using Student´s t test at a 5% level of significance. Result: A total of consecutive patients (n = 149) participated of this study (87% response rate). Cronbach´s alpha coefficient was 0.78, denoting a good consistency of the OHIP index. The OHIP mean was 4.98. The most prevalently affected OHIP domains were dimensions of physical pain: painful aching (11.40%) and uncomfortable eating foods (21.50%). There was non-significant difference (p > 0.05) between the mean OHIP value in relation to each of gender, age, and education level. Conclusion: The OHIP-14 is a reliable instrument of assessing oral health-related quality of life, and among patients under routine practice, it was found a low impact of oral conditions on their quality of life in the studied institutions (UNESP and Municipal).

Morphological study of nitrides of NbTi (50:50, by weight) alloy

Plates of NbTi (50:50, by weight) were nitrided in a nitrogen atmosphere in the temperature range 800-1000 °C for 15, 30, 60, 120 and 180 min. X-Ray diffraction and optical and electronic microscopy were used to characterize the samples. Two nitride layers were identified on the substrate: an external and continuous phase of TiN, named δ, and a deeper and discontinuous phase of Ti 2N, named ε{lunate}. The electron micrographs reveal the presence of paths rich in Nb which may be responsible for the diffusion of nitrogen into the matrix. © 1993.
