Synthesis, characterization, and investigation of the thermal behavior of Cu(II) pyrazolyl complexes
Resumo:
This work reports the synthesis, characterization, and thermal behavior of three complexes of copper (II): [CuCl(2)(HPz)(4)] (1), [CuCl(2)(HdmPz)(4)] (2), and [CuCl(2)(HIPz)(4)] (3) (HPz = pyrazole; HdmPz = 3,5-dimethylpyrazole; HIPz = 4-iodopyrazole). The compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and UV-Vis measurements. The thermal study of the compounds showed that the ligands are eliminated in 2-4 stages, yielding CuO as final residue.

The compounds [Fe(ch)(CO)(2)PP3] (1) (ch = chalcone) and [Fe(sba)(CO)(2)PPh3] (2) (sba = sorbic acid) were prepared by irradiating the tetracarbonyltriphenylphosphineiron(0) complex in benzene in the presence of ch or sba. The compounds were characterized by infrared and P-31 NMR spectroscopies. Their electrochemical behavior was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and the results suggest that their oxidations occur by more than one electrochemical step, producing free ch and sba, free PPh3 and solvated Fe(III). It was observed that sba ligand contributes more effectively to the stabilization of metal center in these complexes, the X-ray crystal and molecular structures of 1 and 2 were determined; it was shown that the Fe atom adopts a distorted octahedral coordinated geometry in which three of the sites are occupied by the ch or sba ligand. The [Fe(ch)(CO)(2)PPh3] complex is a monomer and the unit cell of complex 2 contains exist two identical and crystallographically independent molecules of [Fe(sba)(CO)(2)PPh3] which are linked by short hydrogen bonds O-H . . .O (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier B.V. Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is a halogenated aminoquinoline that presents wide biological activity, often being used as an antimalarial drug. The electrochemical reduction of HCQ was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry using glassy carbon electrodes. By cyclic voltammetry, in acid medium, only the cathodic peak was observed. The electrochemical behavior of this peak is dependent on pH and the electrodic process occurs through an ErCi mechanism. The electron number (le) consumed in the reduction of HCQ was obtained by chronoamperometry. A method for the electrochemical determination of HCQ in pharmaceutical tablets was developed using differential pulse voltammetry. The detection limit reached was 11.2 mug ml(-1) of HCQ with a relative standard deviation of 0.46%. A spectrophotometric study of HCQ has been also carried out utilizing a band at 343 nm. The obtained detection limit and the relative standard deviation were 0.1 mug ml(-1) and 0.36%, respectively. The electrochemical methods are sufficiently accurate and precise to be applied for HCQ determination, in laboratorial routine, which can be used to determine the drug at low level. The presence of trace basic organonitrogen compounds such as quinoline and pyridine in derivative petroleum fuels plays an important role in maintaining the engines of vehicles. However, these substances can contaminate the environment and so must be controlled because most of them are potentially carcinogenic and mutagenic. For these reasons, a reliable and sensitive method was developed for the determination of basic nitrogen compounds in fuel samples such as gasoline and diesel. This method utilizes preconcentration on an ion-exchange resin (Amberlyte IR - 120 H) followed by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) on a glassy carbon electrode. The electrochemical behavior of quinoline and pyridine as studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) suggests that their reduction occurs via a reversible electron transfer followed by an irreversible chemical reaction. Very well resolved diffusion-controlled voltammetric peaks were obtained in dimethylformamide (DMF) with tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAF(4) 0.1 mol L-1) for quinoline (-1.95 V) and pyridine (-2.52 V) vs. Ag vertical bar AgCl vertical bar KClsat reference electrode. The proposed DPV method displayed a good linear response from 0.10 to 300 mg L-1 and a limit of detection (LOD) of 5.05 and 0.25 mu g L-1 for quinoline and pyridine, respectively. Using the method of standard additions, the simultaneous determination of quinoline and pyridine in gasoline samples yielded 25.0 +/- 0.3 and 33.0 +/- 0.7 mg L-1 and in diesel samples yielded 80.3 +/- 0.2 and 131 +/- 0.4 mg L-1, respectively. Spike recoveries were 94.4 +/- 0.3% and 10 +/- 0.5% for quinoline and pyridine, respectively, in the fuel determinations. This proposed method was also compared with UV-vis spectrophotometric measurements. Results obtained for the two methods agreed well based on F and t student's tests.

The presence of trace neutral organonitrogen compounds as carbazole and indole in derivative petroleum fuels plays an important role in the car's engine maintenance. In addition, these substances contribute to the environmental contamination and their control is necessary because most of them are potentially carcinogenic and mutagenic. For those reasons, a reliable and sensitive method was proposed for the determination of neutral nitrogen compounds in fuel samples, such as gasoline and diesel using preconcentration with modified silica gel (Merck 70-230 mesh ASTM) followed by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) technique on a glassy carbon electrode. The electrochemical behavior of carbazole and indole studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) suggests that their reduction occurs via a reversible electron transfer followed by an irreversible chemical reaction. Very well resolved diffusion controlled voltammetric peaks were obtained in dimethylformamide (DMF) with tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAF(4) 0.1 mol L-1) for indole (-2.27 V) and carbazole (-2.67 V) versus Ag vertical bar AgCl vertical bar KClsat reference electrode. The proposed DPV method showed a good linear response range from 0.10 to 300 mg L-1 and a limit of detection (L.O.D) of 7.48 and 2.66 mu g L-1 for indole and carbazole, respectively. The results showed that simultaneous determination of indole and carbazole presents in spiked gasoline samples were 15.8 +/- 0.3 and 64.6 +/- 0.9 mg L-1 and in spiked diesel samples were 9.29 +/- 1 and 142 +/- 1 mg L-1, respectively. The recovery was evaluated and the results shown the values of 88.9 +/- 0.4 and 90.2 +/- 0.8% for carbazole and indole in fuel determinations. The proposed method was also compared with UV-vis spectrophotometric measures and the results obtained for the two methods were in good agreement according to the F and t Student's tests. Nanostructured polyaniline-modified electrodes were fabricated via the electrostatic layer-by-layer (LbL) technique where polyaniline (PANI) was assembled with one of three tetrasulfonated metallic phthalocyanines, viz. iron (FeTsPc), nickel (NiTsPc) and copper (CuTsPc). The multilayer formation was monitored via UV-vis spectroscopy by measuring the increase in the 800 run absorption band due to PANI. Infrared spectroscopy in the transmission mode suggested specific interactions between PANI and the phthalocyanines, such as those between SO3- groups from the phthalocyanines and the protonated NH group from PANI. The films were employed to detect dopamine (DA) using cyclic voltammetry. In the presence of dopamine the PANI-based LbL films showed additional redox peaks at ca. 230 and 190 mV the oxidation peak increased linearly with the concentration of DA in the electrolytic solution. Films comprising PANI/FeTsPc were able to distinguish between DA and ascorbic acid (AA), which acts as a natural interferent in biological fluids. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The electrochemical behavior of Cu-xAl alloys, with 11 wt%less than or equal to x less than or equal to 15wt%, in 0.5 M H2SO4 was studied by means of open-circuit potential decay measurements, quasi-stationary and fast cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Some of the alloys (x less than or equal to 14%), when quenched formed martensitic structures. Alloys with greater than or equal to 13% showed a little square-shaped phase when quenched from temperatures around 800 degrees C. It was observed that in sulfuric medium, these formations were dealuminized differently than the martensitic phase. The values of the rest potentials are more influenced by the heat treatment rather than by the alloy composition. An anodic Tafel slope of ca. 60 mV/decade was observed for all the alloys, independently of the heat treatment. This is explained in terms of a competition between two processes: copper oxidation and copper(I) deproportionation. In the cyclic voltammetric experiments it was observed an anodic current peak, related with copper oxidation with a possible formation of some interfacial species, and a cathodic current peak during the reverse potential scan, associated with the reduction of soluble species and/or of the film. The AC Impedance data were interpreted in terms of electric equivalent circuits.

The synthesis, structural characterization, voltammetric experiments and antibacterial activity of [Ni(sulfisoxazole)(2)(H2O)(4)] center dot 2H(2)O and [Ni(sulfapyridine)(2)] were studied and compared with similar previously reported copper complexes. [Ni(sulfisoxazole)(2)(H2O)(4)] center dot 2H(2)O crystallized in a monoclinic system, space group C2/c where the nickel ion was in a slightly distorted octahedral environment, coordinated with two sulfisoxazole molecules through the heterocyclic nitrogen and four water molecules. [Ni(sulfapyridine)(2)] crystallized in a orthorhombic crystal system, space group Pnab. The nickel ion was in a distorted octahedral environment, coordinated by two aryl amine N from two sulfonamides acting as monodentate ligands and four N atoms (two sulfonamidic N and two heterocyclic N) from two different sulfonamide molecules acting as bidentate ligands. Differential pulse voltammograms were recorded showing irreversible peaks at 1040 and 1070 mV, respectively, attributed to Ni(II)/Ni(III) process. [Ni(sulfisoxazole)(2)(H2O)(4)] center dot 2H(2)O and [Ni(sulfapyridine)(2)] presented different antibacterial behavior against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli from the similar copper complexes and they were inactive against Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
