This work describes the synthesis, IR and (13)C CPMAS NMR spectroscopic as well the thermal characterization of the new dicarboxylate complexes [Pd(2)(ox)(2)(4,4'-bipy)]n (1), [Pd(2)(ox)(2)(bpe)](n) (2) and [Pd(2)(ox)(2)(pz)](n) (3) {ox = oxalate, bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine, bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane, pz = pyrazine}. TG experiments reveal that compounds 1-3 undergo thermal decomposition in three steps. Metal palladium was the final product of the thermal decompositions, which was identified by X-ray powder diffraction.

3-Acetylaleuritolic acid, sitosterol and a novel lathyrane diterpene, jatrowedione, have been isolated from the roots of Jatropha weddelliana. The elucidation of the structure of the latter was accomplished by detailed NMR investigation, and the relative configuration was established by difference NOE experiments. Five cadinane sesquiterpenes derivatives were isolated by bioassay-guided fractionation from Phomopis cassiae, an endophytic fungus isolated from Cassia spectabilis. The structures of the two diastereoisomeric 3,9,12-trihydroxycalamenenes (1, 2); 3,12-dihydroxycalamenene (3); 3,12-dihydroxycadalene (4) and 3,11,12-trihydroxycadalene (5) were established on the basis of analyses of ID and 2D NMR and HRTOFMS experiments. Antifungal activity of the isolates was evaluated against Cladosporium sphaerospermum and Cladosporium cladosporioides, revealing 5 as the most active compound. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. The bioassay directed fractionation of the EtOH extract from leaves of Cryptocarya ashersoniana seedlings led to the isolation of two flavonol glucosides: iso-quercitrin and hyperin, which exhibited free radical scavenging activity towards DPPH (IC50 34.4 muM and 32.7 muM, respectively) and were compared to standard compounds rutin (IC50 27.0 muM) and catechin (IC50 41.4 muM). Investigation of extracts from the seedlings roots and stems afforded one antifungal styrylpyrone: goniothalamine, and two dihydropyrones: 6-propyl-5,6-dihydro-2-pyrone and the new 6-[(4'-ethyl-9'-oxabicyclo[3.3.1]non-6'-en-3'-yl)methyl]-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-one, which had its structure determined by detailed analysis of MS and NMR data, including 2D experiments.

In addition to the known diterpene casearin G (1), two new clerodane diterpene casearins type, casearin S (2) and casearin T (3), were isolated from an acetylated bioactive CH2Cl2/MeOH extract from leaves of Casealia sylvestris. The diterpenes 1-3 exhibited moderate but selective activity towards the DNA-repair deficient yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutants RAD 52YK and RS 321. The structures of 1-3 were established on the basis of NMR spectroscopic experiments (C) 1998 Elsevier B.V. Ltd. All rights reserved.

2,3-Bis(methylsulfanyl)norbomenobenzoquinone undergoes reaction with nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur or carbon nucleophiles to give the trisubstituted adducts containing the new substituent at the ring junction. Their configurations are assigned by H-1 NMR spectroscopy and NOE enhancement experiments. (C) 1997 Elsevier B.V. Ltd.
