For orchid cultivation in containers is essential to select the right substrate, since this will influence the quality of the final product, it serve as a support for the root system of the plants. This study aimed to evaluate different agricultural residues and expanded clay in Oncidium baueri Lindl. orchid cultivation. The plants were subjected to treatments: pinus husk + carbonized rice husk, pinus husk + coffee husk, pinus husk + fibered coconut, pecan nut husk, expanded clay, fibered coconut, coffee husk, carbonized rice husk, pinus husk. After eleven months of the experiment, the following variables were evaluated: plant height; largest pseudo-bulb diameter; number of buds; shoot fresh dry matter; the longest root length; number of roots; root fresh matter; root dry matter; and electric conductivity; pH and water retention capacity of the substrates. Except the expanded clay, the other substrates showed satisfactory results in one or more traits. Standing out among these substrates pinus husk + coffee husk and pine bark + fibered coconut, which favored the most vegetative and root characteristic of the orchid. The mixture of pinus husk + coffee husk and pinus husk + fibered coconut, provided the best results in vegetative and root growth of the orchid Oncidium baueri and the expanded clay did not show favorable results in the cultivation of this species.

The tractors are the main potency source, for the traction of tillage equipments and their use are increasing more and more in Brazilian agriculture. In spite of the great technological progress the increase of the number of agricultural tractors brought positive aspects and some negative, among these last ones it stands out the appearance of a new source of work accidents, which importance is given by the physical damages caused to the operator. Therefore the objective of this work was to project and develop an inclinometer, which indicates the inclination of the land, as safety sensor for agricultural tractors to avoid lateral hollovers, through a resonant sign, for the operator and the machine preservation. The built and evaluated inclinometer showed to be efficient for inclination indication of different areas during field operations with agricultural tractors, small angle oscillation and enough answer time to help operators to take decisions in imminence situation of lateral machine hollovers.

Escola técnicas agrícolas: um estudo sobre ensino de Matemática e formação de professores

The central focus of this paper is to establish that the Brazilian Education Programa to prepare professionals in Technical-Agricultural Schools is suffering a kind of marginalization which comes from two distinct perspectives: the intention to prepare professionals (being a branch of Technical Education) and the relationship to the countryside (a community space historically seen as peripheral in its relation to urban culture). The paper discusses – from a historical and sociological point of view and using Oral History as methodological approach – the experiences of Math’s teachers in their daily struggles against some conceptions of other teachers (mainly those of technical areas) and against all the “regular” schooling system.

Navegação autônoma em ambientes agrícolas utilizando visão estéreo

A visão estéreo é uma forma eficiente para navegação, pois com a estimativa de profundidade, é possível verificar se um caminho pré determinado pode ser utilizado para chegar ao destino definido, e ainda estimar durante qual profundidade esta mesma estimativa continuará sendo válida. As imagens capturadas por cada câmera são retificadas, de forma que as mesmas fiquem alinhadas horizontalmente, colaborando-se assim com o desempenho dos algoritmos de correspondência, responsáveis pela construção da matriz de disparidades. Com base nessa matriz, é criada a matriz de disparidade “V” para que seja possível mapear a informação de profundidade de cada objeto, os quais podem representar obstruções e anteparos na cena observada.
