Energy Management and Control for Islanded Microgrid Using Multi-Agents

This paper presents a multi-agent system for real-time operation of simulated microgrid using the Smart-Grid Test Bed at Washington State University. The multi-agent system (MAS) was developed in JADE (Java Agent DEvelopment Framework) which is a Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents (FIPA) compliant open source multi-agent platform. The proposed operational strategy is mainly focused on using an appropriate energy management and control strategies to improve the operation of an islanded microgrid, formed by photovoltaic (PV) solar energy, batteries and resistive and rotating machines loads. The focus is on resource management and to avoid impact on loads from abrupt variations or interruption that changes the operating conditions. The management and control of the PV system is performed in JADE, while the microgrid model is simulated in RSCAD/RTDS (Real-Time Digital Simulator). Finally, the outcome of simulation studies demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed multi-agent approach for real-time operation of a microgrid.

Preeclampsia is a specific disorder of pregnancy, characterized by arterial hypertension and proteinuria detected after 20 weeks of gestation. This pathology is associated with hyperuricemia, higher levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, enhanced leukocyte activation and oxidative stress. Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is an enzyme present in all human tissues and, it is involved with the maturation of the immune system. Although its function is not fully understood, ADA is considered an indicator of cellular inflammation and, its increased serum concentration is observed in inflammatory diseases, such as tuberculosis and rheumatoid arthritis. This study aimed to assess serum ADA levels in preeclamptic patients (PE) compared with normotensive pregnant (NT) and non-pregnant women (NP), and to correlate these values with TNF-α and IL-1β production. Ninety pregnant women were included: 60 were pre-eclamptic and 30 were normotensive matched for gestational age. As control group 20 healthy non-pregnant women matched with pregnant for age were included. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PMMC) obtained from the three groups studied were cultured with or without lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for 18h at 37oC, and TNF-α and IL-1β production was assessed in the supernatant of cultures by enzyme immunoassay (ELISA). ADA plasmatic concentration was determined by colorimetric method. The results show that ADA plasma levels were significantly higher in PE group compared with NT and NP groups. A positive correlation between ADA and uric acid levels was detected in preeclamptic women. There was no significant difference in relation to ADA levels when PE patients were classified in early and late-onset PE. The endogenous production of IL-1β and TNF-α by PBMC was significantly higher in PE group than in NT and NP women, showing the activation state of these cells in PE. Moçada, moçaiada, moçarada: um caso de variação?

Com base nos estudos sociolingüísticos e nos processos de formação de palavras através da sufixação, este estudo analisa algumas formações de palavras a partir dos sufixos -ADA, -ARADA e -AIADA. A pesquisa volta-se para as construções que indicam “grande quantidade”. Pretende-se relacionar o uso destes sufixos com o grau de escolaridade do falante e o contexto de uso, para, na medida do possível, analisar se estes dois fatores podem influenciar um maior ou menor uso destas palavras. Para isso utilizou-se dados provenientes da internet, assim como os resultados de dois testes de percepção aplicados em alguns colaboradores de graus de escolaridade distintos. A partir da análise dos dados obtidos na internet e nos testes, constatou-se que os sufixos -ADA, -ARADA e -AIADA, principalmente estes, estão sendo usado amplamente em conversações mais informais, sendo que nos testes, os colaboradores com maior nível de escolaridade foram os que se mostraram mais conservadores em relação às construções. Para alguns dos entrevistados, o uso das palavras formadas com os sufixos em estudo deve ser restrito a situações bastante informais, sendo “inadequado” seu uso numa situação formal

Avaliação das características físico-químicas e microbiológicas dos componentes fibrosos obtidos da moagem úmida de grãos de milho

Fibers are non-digestible materials by human organism, and they are insoluble in specific conditions. The corn fiber has been used as an alternative to enrich the food products for human consumption, in order to add nutritious value to this co-product. This study aimed at determining the chemical and fractions components of corn fiber, extracted by semi-wet milling in laboratory (LabF), and by semi-humid milling in industrial process (IndF); and microbiological analyses were perform in the last fraction. The fiber composition differed significantly among these two products as to moisture, ash, lipids, proteins, insoluble dietary fiber, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), cellulose and lignin contents. The sample IndF showed microbiological parameters in compliance with the specifications for consumption. The investigated corn fiber may effectively contribute to increase the fiber intake in the diet. As the industrially processed fiber (IndF) showed compliant microbiological parameters with the specifications for food, this component might be incorporated into the food products formulation.

Aparelho extrabucal como recurso auxiliar para alinhamento e nivelamento no tratamento orto cirúrgico de má oclusão classe III esquelética

When well indicated, the orthodontic surgical approach is the ideal treatment mean for Skeletal Class III adult patients. To improve facial esthetic results from orthognatic surgery, the leveling and alignment of maxillary dental arch must be achieved with minimal inclination and projection or even retro-inclination of anterior upper teeth. During a pre-surgical phase of 12 months, headgear bilateral force of 150 g/F was applied to the upper molars of a 22 years old male compliant patient with Class III skeletal malocclusion, to provide an upper teeth control of mesial tipping and projection during alignment and leveling. The ideal occlusal parameters required for surgical procedure were achieved without dental extractions permitting a total treatment period of 37 months. The outcomes remained stable over 3 years follow up after the removal of the appliance. The results indicate that, although headgear use depends greatly on patient compliance, when well indicated it is an interesting alternativetopromote dentaldecompensationon pre-surgical period, in order to allow surgical correction of skeletal Class III malocclusion.

Radiopacity and flow of different endodontic sealers

The present study evaluated the radiopacity and flow of different endodontic sealers: AH Plus, Endo CPM, MTA Fillapex, Sealapex, Epiphany, and Epiphany SE. For the radiopacity test, six specimens measuring 10mm in diameter and 1mm in thickness were fabricated from each material. They were radiographed on an occlusal film alongside an aluminum step wedge. Radiographs were digitized to determine the radiopacity equivalence in millimeters of aluminum. To evaluate the flow, a 120 g load was placed on top of a glass slab containing 0.05 } 0.005ml of sealer. The diameters of each material were measured (mm) with a caliper and samples were photographed. Digitized images were analyzed using the UTHSCSA Image Tool for Windows software, to determine the sealer area (mm2). Data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey's test at 5% significance. AH Plus and Epiphany SE presented the greatest radiopacity (12.5 mm Al and 12.0 mm Al, respectively) (p>0.05), followed by Epiphany (9.6 mm Al) and Fillapex (8.9 mm Al). Endo CPM (5.46 mm Al) and Sealapex (5.51 mm Al) presented lower radiopacity. MTA Fillapex presented significantly higher values of flow than other sealers (33.11 mm and 844.9 mm2). AH Plus, Epiphany, and Epiphany SE had similar values. Endo CPM (21.05 mm and 342.8 mm2) and Sealapex (19.98 mm and 352.5 mm2) presented the lowest flow values (p>0.05). All sealers presented radiopacity and flow values according to ISO and ANSI/ADA recommendations.
