Storage media for avulsed teeth: a literature review

Dental avulsion is the most severe type of traumatic tooth injuries because it causes damageto several structures and results in the complete displacement of the tooth from its socketin the alveolar bone. The ideal situation is to replant an exarticulated tooth immediatelyafter avulsion because the extraoral time is a determinant factor for treatment successand for a good prognosis. However, it is not always possible. The success of replantationdepends on a number of factors that may contribute to accelerate or minimize theoccurrence of root resorption or ankylosis, among which is the type and characteristicsof the medium used for temporary storage during the time elapsed between avulsionand replantation. Maintaining the tooth in an adequate wet medium that can preserve,as longer as possible, the vitality of the periodontal ligament cells that remain on rootsurface is the key to success of replantation. Recent research has led to the developmentof storage media that produce conditions that closely resemble the original socketenvironment, with adequate osmolality (cell pressure), pH, nutritional metabolites andglucose, and thus create the best possible conditions for storage. Although these storagemedia can now be purchased in the form of retail products, the most common scenariois that such a product will not be readily available at the moment of the accident Thispaper reviews the literature on the different storage media that have been investigatedfor avulsed teeth based on full-length papers retrieved from PubMed/Medline, Lilacs, BBOand SciELO electronic databases using the key words storage medium , transportationmedium , avulsion , tooth avulsion , replantation , tooth replantation , milk and propolis .After application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 39 papers were selected and criticallyreviewed with respect to the characteristics, efficacy and ease of access of the storagemedium. Raiz dentária impelida para o seio maxilar após exodontia: uma opção de tratamento

Introduction: Upper teeth, especially first premolars and molars, can have a close anatomical relationship with the floor of maxillary sinus. For this reason, accidental displacement of dental roots into the sinus could happen during exodontic procedures. Objective: Description the treatment performed to remove a tooth root within the maxillary sinus, displaced during an extraction procedure. Case Report: Female patient, 39 years of age, which reported being subjected to the extraction of the element 26 for about two months. The patient was reported by the practitioner who performed the extraction that a root was pushed into the maxillary sinus. The treatment plan included surgery to remove the root within the maxillary sinus. Final Comments: Clinicians should be careful during extractions, to prevent these accidents. However, if such complications occur, access to the maxillary sinus is the best treatment option.

Quarto molar retido: a importância do diagnóstico precoce

Introductions: A supernumerary tooth is one that is additional to the normal series and can be found in almost any region of the dental arch. Its etiology is not fully understood. With regard to its prevalence, it occurs more commonly in permanent dentition and twice as often in men than in women. Supernumerary teeth are classified according to their morphology and location. Their presence can cause problems such as failure of eruption, displacement of teeth, crowding and odontogenic cysts and tumors. The diagnosis is usually by routine radiographs, for the majority of such teeth are impacted and asymptomatic. Objective and Case report: The purpose of this study was to make a brief review of the relevant literature and report one clinical case of the female patient, 23 years, melanoderma, featuring three quarters molars. Final considerations: The early diagnosis proved to be important for the resolution of the case in order to minimize or even prevent the development of complications and thus establish a proper plan of treatment.

Registros posicionais de protrusão e lateralidade em resinaacrílica à partir de diferentes posições iniciais

The lateral movement presents a combination of lateral condylar and protrusive displacement on the non-working side. The objective os this study was to check the differences in the adjustment of the semiadjustable articulator starting from two different initial positions, centric relation an intercuspal position using positional records of rotusion and lateral movements in acrylic resin for the adjustment of condylar guidance as for ennett Angle. Twenty pacients dentate and assintomatic were recruited and their adjustment were performed in the semiadjustable articulator checking the differences among the studied groups, not finding statistically significant differences. Concludes that, in semiadjustable articulator adjustment, starting the montage in centric relation or intercuspal position, the results obtained for the condylar guidande and Bennett Angle aren´t statistically diferents, as well there is no difference in condylar guidance adjustment using lateral or protrusive records.

Simplificação no tratamento da fratura de ângulo mandibular por meio do acesso intrabucal

Mandibular fractures are the injury most commonly found in the facial bones. They have varied etiology, such as automobile, motorcycle and cycling accidents, physical abuse and falls. The choice of treatment of mandibular fractures most often employed is the reduction and fixation of bone fragments. Regarding fractures involving the mandibular angle, access headgear is the most widely used, in view of the action of masticatory muscles causing greater displacement of fractured stumps. Therefore, the proposal to introduce a conservative approach and facilitated for the treatment of fractures of the mandibular angle, as well as to demystify the contraindication to intraoral approach cases unfavorable fracture displacement, this work is to report a clinical casesurgical mandibular angle fracture, treated by intraoral approach. The fracture was fixed with two plates, one following the external oblique line system (1.5 mm) and a lower system (2.0 mm), with the help of percutaneous trocar. This approach is very promising for these cases, in order to ease the technical as well as by reducing the technical complications of extraoral approach.

A psicanálise aplicada ao sintoma: considerações sobre as duas clínicas de jacques lacan

Este artigo discorre sobre a psicanálise aplicada ao sintoma, promovendo uma reflexão sobre as duas clínicas de Jacques Lacan. O trabalho examina o deslocamento operado pelo autor, ao final de seu ensino, do conceito de sintoma, formação do inconsciente, para o conceito de sinthoma, com nova grafia, em um enfoque além do Édipo, ou seja, além do simbólico. Por fim, o estudo teórico destaca como a reformulação do conceito de sintoma possibilitou o surgimento de novas modalidades de intervenção analítica, em uma clínica mais acessível à população. Conclui-se que a tarefa analítica, na atualidade, não consiste em interpretar infinitamente, mas, sim, em sustentar a prontidão para acolher a surpresa.

É descrito um equipamento e método para medição de dureza de materiais lignocelulósicos que compreende um equipamento portátil eletromecânico que mede a dureza de materiais, com princípio de funcionamento semelhante ao ensaio de dureza brinell, apresentando um conjunto eletrônico composto por um sensor de deslocamento do tipo encoder magnético incremental que permite a automatização da leitura da dureza por meio de controlador digital de sinais integrado.

Population ecology of the planktonic shrimp lucifer faxoni borradaile, 1915 (crustacea, sergestoidea, luciferidae) of the southeastern coast of brazil

Luciferid shrimps have short life spans and a rapid turnover of generations, engage in sequential spawning, and protect their eggs during incubation. This study investigates the ecology of Lucifer faxoni Borradaile, 1915 in the littoral zone, Ubatuba region, São Paulo. Sampling was conducted monthly from July 2005 to December 2006 using a Renfro net trawled over a distance of 50 m for a total sampling effort of 50 m² at each station. Nine stations were sampled, ranging from 1 to 15 m deep. Three stations each were grouped into zones 1, 2 and 3 (Z1, Z2 and Z3). Monthly values of salinity, temperature and rainfall were recorded at each station. The pre-buccal somite length (SL) of each specimen was measured. The results showed that in shallower zones (Z1 and Z2), 6306 individuals were captured, whereas in the deeper zone (Z3), 3808 specimens were captured, but no significant differences in SL was detected between the specimens from Z1 and Z2 and those from Z3 (ANOVA, p=0.25). The abundance of shrimps did not differ significantly between seasons (Tukey’s test, p=0.02) except in the spring. The sex ratio differed significantly over the seasons (χ², p<0.05). The results were closely associated with environmental factors with respect to the spatial and seasonal distribution of L. faxoni. Rainfall affected salinity directly, and contributed to the displacement of these shrimps to deeper areas.

The following work proposes an approach to drawing based upon a language which is diluted and also introduced in the hybridization perceived in the 21st Century. Based on a shift of languages in visual arts which refers to appropriations and to the expansion of possibilities for the procedure and the physicality of the artistic work, it looks into the place of drawing, its dimensions and concepts. While it is an expressive vehicle, the drawing constitutes an indispensable element for the development of expression forms, transformed and diversified over centuries. In the 21st Century, its plurality presents it in several dimensions. When it is expanded in the space, it not only makes sure that it not bi dimensional, as well as it is asserted in its essence, besides coded methods. The text is structured around theoretical and practical researches based on Ostrower, Derdyk, Canclini and author/artist.
