Several Brazilian commercial gasoline physicochemical parameters, such as relative density, distillation curve (temperatures related to 10%, 50% and 90% of distilled volume, final boiling point and residue), octane numbers (motor and research octane number and anti-knock index), hydrocarbon compositions (olefins, aromatics and saturates) and anhydrous ethanol and benzene content was predicted from chromatographic profiles obtained by flame ionization detection (GC-FID) and using partial least square regression (PLS). GC-FID is a technique intensively used for fuel quality control due to its convenience, speed, accuracy and simplicity and its profiles are much easier to interpret and understand than results produced by other techniques. Another advantage is that it permits association with multivariate methods of analysis, such as PLS. The chromatogram profiles were recorded and used to deploy PLS models for each property. The standard error of prediction (SEP) has been the main parameter considered to select the "best model". Most of GC-FID-PLS results, when compared to those obtained by the Brazilian Government Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency - ANP Regulation 309 specification methods, were very good. In general, all PLS models developed in these work provide unbiased predictions with lows standard error of prediction and percentage average relative error (below 11.5 and 5.0, respectively). This is a report on the influence of the methods of postharvest application of CaCl2 in several concentrations, on the maintenance of the firmness of the sweet passion fruit (Passiflora alata Dryander). The fruits, picked in the pre-climateric stage, were selected desinfection with thiabendazol and submitted to CaCl2 in concentrations of 0% (control), 1%, 2%, 3% or 4% with two methods: immersion (for 2 h) and infiltration under vacuum and pressure (- 25 vacuum kPa, for 1 minute and, + 25 pressure kPa, for 1 min). All fruits were stored under refrigeration (9 degreesC, 85-90% RH), for 30 d. The fruits were evaluated for texture every 3 d. From the results, it is concluded that application of CaCl2 by infiltration favored the maintenance of fruit consistency during the first 18 days of storage. Fruits treated with 1% and 2% of CaCl2 were firmer than the others.

The thermal behavior and non-isothermal kinetics of thermal decomposition of three different kinds of composting of the USR like: stack with drilled PVC tubes (ST), revolved stack (SR) and stack with material of structure (SM), from the usine of composing of Araraquara city, São Paulo state, Brazil, within a period of 132 days of composting were studied. Results from TG, DTG and DSC curves obtained on inert atmosphere indicated that the cellulosic fraction present, despite the slow degradation during the composting process, is thermally less stable than other substances originated from that process. Due to that behavior, the cellulosic fraction decomposition could be kinetically evaluated through non-isothermal methods of analysis. The values obtained were: average activation energy, E-a=248, 257 and 259 kJ mol(-1) and pre-exponential factor, logA=21.4, 22.5, 22.7 min(-1), to the ST, SR and SM, respectively. From E-a and logA values and DSC curves, Malek procedure could be applied, suggesting that the SB (Sestak-Berggren) kinetic model is the appropriated one to the first thermal decomposition step.

Non-isothermal kinetic parameters regarding to the thermal decomposition of the ligninocellulosic fraction present in compost from urban solid residues (USR) obtained through stack covered (SC) with composted material, comes from the usine in composing of Araraquara city, São Paulo state, Brazil, and from stack containing academic restaurant organic solid residues (SAR). The samples were periodically revolved round 132 days of composting. Results from TG, DTG and DSC curves obtained on inert atmosphere indicated that the lignocellulosic fraction present, despite the slow degradation during the composting process, is thermally less stable than other substances originated during that process. The lignocellulosic fraction decomposition, between 200 and 400degreesC, were kinetically evaluated through non-isothermal methods of analysis.By using the Flynn-Wall and Ozawa isoconversional method, the medium activation energy, E-a, and pre-exponential factor, IgA, were 283.0+/-4.6, 257.6+/-1.3 U mol(-1) and 25.4+/-0.8, 23.2+/-0.2 min(-1),to the SC and SAR, respectively, at 95% confidence level. From E-a, and IgA values and DSC curves, Malek procedure could be applied, Suggesting that the SB (Sestik-Berggren) kinetic model is suitable for the first thermal decomposition step.

Dogs' teeth with induced chronic periapical periodontitis were treated endodontically by two different methods, and the results were compared. A total of 40 root canals from the upper and lower premolars of two dogs were prepared chemomechanically. In method 1, a high-concentration (5.25%) hypochlorite solution was used during the instrumentation of the root canal, and an antibacterial dressing was applied between sessions, followed by filling of the root canal. In method 2, a low-concentration (0.5%) sodium hypochlorite solution was used as an adjunct to mechanical debridement, and the root canal was filled during the same session. The histopathological results showed that method 1 led to better periapical repair than method 2.

Objectives: This study evaluated the marginal gaps on several surfaces of onlays created with the Cerec 3D system using one intraoral and two extraoral optical impression methods. Methods: A human molar (#19) was mounted with its adjacent teeth on a typodont (Frasaco) and prepared for a MODL onlay. The typodont was assembled in the mannequin head in order to simulate clinical conditions. The same operator took 36 individual optical impressions using a CEREC 3D camera. For group 1 (IP), a thin layer of titanium dioxide powder (CEREC powder-VITA) was applied directly onto the surface of the preparation for imaging (n=12). For group 2 (EP), a sectional impression was taken with hydrocolloid Identic Syringable (Dux Dental), a die made with polyvinylsiloxane KwikkModel Scan (R-dental Dentalerzeugnisse GmbH) and powdered with titanium dioxide for imaging (n=12). For group 3 (ES), a sectional impression was taken with PVS and a sectional stock tray, a die fabricated in stone (Diamond die- HI-TEC Dental Products) and the die being imaged without powdering (n=12). One operator designed and machined the onlays in Vita Blocks Mark II for Cerec (VITA) using a CEREC 3D. The marginal gaps (pm) were measured with an optical microscope (50x) at 12 points, three on each surface of the MODL. The results were analyzed by two-way ANOVA/Tukey's (p=0.05). Results: The overall mean marginal gaps (mu m) for the three methods were: IP=111.6 (+/- 34.0); EP=161.4 (+/- 37.6) and ES=116.8 (+/- 42.3). IP and ES were equal, but both were significantly less than EP. The pooled mean marginal gaps (mu m) for the occlusal = 110.5 (+/- 39) and lingual = 111.5 (+/- 30.5) surfaces were equivalent and significantly less than the distal = 136.5 (+/- 42.5) and mesial = 161.1 (+/- 43.3). Conclusion: The marginal gap of CEREC 3D onlay restorations was not different when the optical impression was taken intraorally vs extraorally using a stone cast that does not require powdering. The lingual and occlusal surfaces showed the lowest gaps.
