The process of steel production emits a large quantity of greenhouse gases, specifically carbon dioxide (CO2), and the reduction of such emissions is one of the main challenges for the industry in the 21st. Century. To quantify these emissions, the Worldsteel Association (association of the 170 large steel manufacturers of the world) published a methodology (CO2 Emission Data Collection) for calculation and comparison of CO2 emissions among its members. After that, in 2010, this methodology became an ISO (International Organization for Standardization) norm. Today, the calculation of the CO2 emissions in steel making companies follow the ISO 14404-1 for units with blast furnaces and the ISO 14404-2 for units with electric furnaces. In the last years, new technologies were and continue to be developed for the steel making sector aiming at energetic improvements and greenhouse gas reductions (mainly CO2) by the several processes involved in the production of steel. This work had the objective of producing a tool to calculate the CO2 emissions for the steel making sector. An Excel spreadsheet was developed to calculate the emission intensities of CO2 of a steel plant, the Usina Presidente Vargas, of the Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN). The spreadsheet furnishes results of CO2 emissions and energetic fluxes, and simulates the benefits that some of the new technologies can give to the company. The spreadsheet calculates the emissions in two ways: a) based on the carbon fluxes that enter the unit, and b) based on the emissions of each specific process within the unit (coking, sinterization, blast furnace, among others)

The main goal of this monograph is to understand the questions regarding brazillian economic development during the last thirty years. Through a historic deductive method, like simple techniques of descriptive statistics, we explicit the evolution process in which brazil has taken part in this last years. However, recently, by choosing non-conventional paths, represented basically by some aspects of the heterodox theory, the conservation of this process showed itself faulty. The defense for a return of the traditional ways employed in political economy just like in strategies of development are essential for the a continuous improvement of the brazillian population' life conditions

The composite resin is the material of election for direct restorations in posterior teeth currently. The restorative dentistry aims to improve each day the material and facilitate the restorative technique. This paper describes the technique of occlusal matrix made to speed up and preservation the occlusal surface of a first molar tooth affected by caries lesion. A new resin-based composite was used called Silorane, which may be placed in larger increments due the material has low shrinkage and polymerization stress. The use of occlusal matrix associated with a low shrinkage resin composite can simplify the clinical work, and result in a restoration with excellent reproduction of anatomical.

Advanced Layering composite resins can be facilitated by a technique called "Lingual Matrix", where a guide is made of elastomer by molding a previously waxed tooth or sculped in an intraoral test drive restoration. This technique has many advantages to sophisticated layering, facilitation stratification, anatomic construcrion and the stages of finishing and polishing. However, in some clinical situations, the unfolding of the steps to obtains this matrix can be time consuming or even infeasible. To facilitate the achievement of this apparatus, a technique was idealized allowing significant reducrion in clinical time. This matrix, called the "BRB Matrix" is widly discussed in a didactic and clinical manner in this article, presenting its advantages in clinical cases where it is imperative to use a guide for conduction a controlled layering. The simplicity of this approach, as well as reduced clinical time and finacial costs turn it feasible in an everyday clinical practice.

This paper aims at rescuing some critical appraisals found in the high school anthology Autores Contemporâneos (1931), by the critic, philologist and writer João Ribeiro, one of the main Brazilian intellectual representatives of the first decades of the twentieth century. João Ribeiro, along with Coelho Neto and, Laudelino Freire, among others, took part in of the panel which compiled, in 1921, the Dicionário da Academia Brasileira de Letras. Therefore, we find the analytical process João Ribeiro, their theoretical observations, concepts and dilemmas which are appointed by him in literary history and criticism of the early twentieth century.

This paper is the result of a homonymous scientific research, funded by CNPq-PIBIC where we understand the adoption process as a process of dissidence in relation to the bio-parental matrix. Founded on a heteronormative naturalization of human sexuality - which presupposes a continuum and naturalized organization among sex / gender / desire – this bioparental matrix sets the binary relation of distinction between the legitimate/illegitimate child as their origin or not arising from “blood ties”. Considering our experience in the Project developed at the Department of Clinical Psychology at UNESP, Assis, SP called “Ties of love: Adoption, Gender, Citizenship and Rights”, we prepared a content analysis - as proposed by Bardin (1977) -, of transcripts of psychological sessions that were made from 2005 to 2012 in the "Center for Research and Applied Psychology “Dra. Betti Katzenstein. Our general objective was to analyze the effects of the bioparental matrix and its impact on children/adolescents and their families as well as estimate the possibilities of escape to the subjection to this bioparental matrix. The results showed us several aspects that may be significant for understanding the discursive crossings related to the practice of adoption. It was observed that there is still a great ambivalence pervading this theme, revealing that there is a discrepancy between what we say and what we do in relation to practices of caring among the adopted children. On the one hand, it was noticed that relatives rationally seek to enhance the bonding of the “emotional ties”, but their practices and beliefs, are still supported in modes of subjectivation that prioritize the biological discourse. This fact reveals a strained and conflictive field that probably weaknesses those families seeking to prioritize the ties of affection. However, as can be seen in this study, it is comforting and motivating to realize the power of resistance of individuals to absolute truths that govern their ways of feeling, affiliating and/ or exert their parenting.

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are chemical substances extraordinarily toxic and persistent in the environment. Due to these properties, POPs are targets of the Stockholm Convention which aims to provide means to eliminate production and use by encouraging the reduction and, where possible, eliminating the release of these contaminants to the environment. One of the articles of this _Convention aims to assess the basal levels of such substances in the environment to monitor both the reduction of release to the environment, and to assess human exposure, using analyzes of milk and air for example. Although efforts to control POPs production and release to the environment have been made, data about their levels in Brazil are still scarce, mainly in the atmosphere or indoor environment. Considering the permanence of people inside its house, this study presents a method for POP extraction from XAD-2 sorbent employed in indoor air sampling, with identification and quantification by GC-ECD. GC-ECD linear range of the studied analytes, congeners of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) (28, 52, 101, 118, 138, 153 and 180), DDTs and their metabolites (DDDs, DDEs) and endosullan (isomers c - and 13 - and metabolite endosulfan sulfate) ranged between 0.5 and 16.0 ng mL-I with r2 > 0.967. The method developing consist of selecting the extraction solvent system by agitation (90 rpm, 1 hour) with n-hexan,e (2 mL) or n-hexane:acetone (1:1, v/v) (2 mL), concentration the extract with a gentle N2 stream, and evaluation of breakthrough with passage or air through the fortified XAD-2 cartridge before extraction, employing a low volume air suction pump (Pump Model 224 universal-PCXR8; 5-5000 mL min-1, SKC Inc., Eighty Four, PA, USA), Calibrator Dry-Cal DC-Lite (BIOS, Butler, NJ, USA)). Background: The principles of tissue regeneration to repair alveolar bone defects are based on the fabrication of a biologic barrier with different biomaterials. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the guided bone regeneration (GBR) by using membrane of demineralized bovine bone matrix (DBBM) on experimental defects in tibia of dogs. Methods: Four dogs were used and after anesthesia, shaving and antisepsis, two standardized bone defects were created on the right tibia of each animal with trephine drill. In the Control Group, the defects were filled with blood coagulum, while in the Treated Group, a membrane of DBBM was used to cover the defects. After 90 days, animals were sacrificed. Results: In the Treated Group, 67.4% of new bone formation was observed and, in the Control Group, 32.6% of the bone tissue reabsorbed when compared with initial bone volume. The membrane remained intact and no inflammatory tissue was observed on membrane/ bone interface. Conclusion: It was concluded that the use of DBBM is an osteoconductive material, presents biocompatibility and may be promise option to repair bone defects.
