By using the theory of semigroups of growth α, we discuss the existence of mild solutions for a class of abstract neutral functional differential equations. A concrete application to partial neutral functional differential equations is considered.

We consider a class of functional differential equations subject to perturbations, which vary in time, and we study the exponential stability of solutions of these equations using the theory of generalized ordinary differential equations and Lyapunov functionals. We introduce the concept of variational exponential stability for generalized ordinary differential equations and we develop the theory in this direction by establishing conditions for the trivial solutions of generalized ordinary differential equations to be exponentially stable. Then, we apply the results to get corresponding ones for impulsive functional differential equations. We also present an example of a delay differential equation with Perron integrable right-hand side where we apply our result.

This paper is mainly devoted to the study of the limit cycles that can bifurcate from a linear center using a piecewise linear perturbation in two zones. We consider the case when the two zones are separated by a straight line Σ and the singular point of the unperturbed system is in Σ. It is proved that the maximum number of limit cycles that can appear up to a seventh order perturbation is three. Moreover this upper bound is reached. This result confirms that these systems have more limit cycles than it was expected. Finally, center and isochronicity problems are also studied in systems which include a first order perturbation. For the latter systems it is also proved that, when the period function, defined in the period annulus of the center, is not monotone, then it has at most one critical period. Moreover this upper bound is also reached.

The presence of trace neutral organonitrogen compounds as carbazole and indole in derivative petroleum fuels plays an important role in the car's engine maintenance. In addition, these substances contribute to the environmental contamination and their control is necessary because most of them are potentially carcinogenic and mutagenic. For those reasons, a reliable and sensitive method was proposed for the determination of neutral nitrogen compounds in fuel samples, such as gasoline and diesel using preconcentration with modified silica gel (Merck 70-230 mesh ASTM) followed by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) technique on a glassy carbon electrode. The electrochemical behavior of carbazole and indole studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) suggests that their reduction occurs via a reversible electron transfer followed by an irreversible chemical reaction. Very well resolved diffusion controlled voltammetric peaks were obtained in dimethylformamide (DMF) with tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAF(4) 0.1 mol L-1) for indole (-2.27 V) and carbazole (-2.67 V) versus Ag vertical bar AgCl vertical bar KClsat reference electrode. The proposed DPV method showed a good linear response range from 0.10 to 300 mg L-1 and a limit of detection (L.O.D) of 7.48 and 2.66 mu g L-1 for indole and carbazole, respectively. The results showed that simultaneous determination of indole and carbazole presents in spiked gasoline samples were 15.8 +/- 0.3 and 64.6 +/- 0.9 mg L-1 and in spiked diesel samples were 9.29 +/- 1 and 142 +/- 1 mg L-1, respectively. The recovery was evaluated and the results shown the values of 88.9 +/- 0.4 and 90.2 +/- 0.8% for carbazole and indole in fuel determinations. The proposed method was also compared with UV-vis spectrophotometric measures and the results obtained for the two methods were in good agreement according to the F and t Student's tests. We consider the contributions of the exotic quarks and gauge bosons to the mass difference between the short- and the long-lived neutral kaon states in the SU(3)C×SU(3)L×U(1)N model. The lower bound MZ′∼14 TeV is obtained for the extra neutral gauge boson Z′0. Ranges for values of one of the exotic quark masses and quark mixing parameters are also presented.

This paper presents two discrete sliding mode control (SMC) design. The first one is a discrete-time SMC design that doesn't take into account the time-delay. The second one is a discrete-time SMC design, which takes in consideration the time-delay. The proposed techniques aim at the accomplishment simplicity and robustness for an uncertainty class. Simulations results are shown and the effectiveness of the used techniques is analyzed. © 2006 IEEE.

The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system is related to quality of oocytes and embryos. The aim of this study was to investigate the mRNA levels of IGF1 and IGF2 and their receptors, IGFR1 and IGFR2, as well as IGFBP2, IGFBP4, and PAPP-A in oocytes from Nelore compared to Holstein cows. Pools of oocytes (20 oocytes/pool) from Nelore (n=8 pools) and Holstein (n=4 pools) were obtained via ovum pick-up (OPU, 10 sessions) and cumulus cells and zona pellucida were removed. The pools were submitted to total RNA extraction. Expression of members of the IGF system was assessed by real time RT-PCR. The mRNA expression of IGF1 and IGF2, IGFR1 and IGFR2, IGFBP2 and IGFBP4 was significantly higher (P<0.01) in oocytes from Holstein whereas the expression of PAPP-A was significantly higher (P<0.05) in oocytes from Nelore cows. The high PAPP-A expression and the low expression of IGFBP2 and IGFBP4 are associated with more efficient degradation of IGFBPs, which results in greater bioavailability of IGF in Nelore oocytes when compared to the Holstein. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.
