A presença das mulheres nas ciências exatas

Most well-known and studied names in schoolbooks are men's. It gives one the idea that the world of numbers does not belong to female individuals. In order to verify that this thought is a misconception, a research is carried out about women who, despite all prejudice, have faced many adversities, leaving us many contributions on exact sciences and being relevant until the present date. Nowadays, there is not as much sexual discrimination. Women’s under-representation in exact sciences is due to other motives, such as issues of choice and the option of part-time jobs for professional/familiar balance. Maybe because of this, women have little acknowledgment, as it can be seen in Nobel Prize, where of its 851 awards, only 44 were for women. They are present at different degrees of education, such as licentiate graduation, bachelor’s or master’s, but still outnumbered. Planejamento paisagístico do Campus Universitário da Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas, UNESP, Botucatu, S.P

O Planejamento Paisagístico do Campus da Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas da Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) em Botucatu - SP, foi elaborado a partir de um Plano Diretor já existente e considerado o comportamento da paisagem, com edificações e circulações já estabelecidas, dando ênfase ao projeto de ajardinamento do entorno da Central de Salas de Aulas. Os objetivos principais do planejamento visam a proteção do solo, arborização adequada e ajardinamento do encontro dos prédios principais. O traçado proposto é simples, com a finalidade de dar uma escala humana ao Campus, considerando a necessidade dos usuários e de favorecer a utilização de máquinas para manutenção e tratos culturais, em face da pequena disponibilidade de mão-de-obra, sendo mais elaborado somente nos entornos dos prédios principais. A estrutura vegetal é formada de árvores, arbustos, gramados e outras forrações que foram selecionadas por sua rusticidade, resistência, aclimatação ao local e disponibilidade nos Viveiros Experimentais da Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas-UNESP. Atitudes em relação à Bioestatística de discentes e docentes da Faculdade de Ciências Farmacêuticas de Araraquara-UNESP

In this study, the attitudes of students and teachers at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Araraquara (UNESP University) towards Biostatistics were assessed. The Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics (SATS) scale was used as the measuring instrument. The reproducibility of the scale was estimated by Cohen's Kappa (κ) coefficient with linear weighting and its internal consistency by Cronbach's alpha coefficient (α). The individuals were first placed in two groups, according to their positive or negative attitude toward Statistics; then, the association of their attitude with the variables of interest was tested by the chi-squared (χ 2) test at a significance level of 5%. The sample consisted of 272 undergraduate students, 83 graduate students and 24 teachers, predominantly female (78.2%). Among the students, 67.5% participated in the scientific research initial training program. Reproducibility and internal consistency of the scale were adequate (κ=0.7093; α=0.9334). Most of the subjects (74.4%) had a positive attitude toward Statistics. Significant association was found between attitude and functional activity (p=0.0204), the course taken (p=0.0316) and effort (p=0.0002). Thus, it was concluded that the great majority of the participants had a positive attitude towards Biostatistics and that undergraduate students and those who reported good performance in Biostatistics showed a significantly higher proportion of positive attitude than the other students.

Our work aims to discuss the teaching of science in the context of informal education. Thus, we present and analyze the results of an initiative that we have made seeking to interest high school students to study sciences and technology. The Energy shows are activities which are presented in experimental demonstrations of science concepts to middle school students. After the show the students respond to a questionnaire which formed the basis for this study. The results indicate that the achievement of shows have had an impact on students.

As dificuldades para a gestão do PIBID a partir do olhar de coordenadores e colaboradores em subprojetos na Faculdade de Ciências Bauru: limites e possibilidades

The Institutional Program of Initiation to Teaching, the PIBID, has by its nature the training of teachers. Focused on graduate students, the PIBID acts as a proposal for training beyond the mandatory classes, giving to the students that are entering the program, a great opportunity to improve their training as a teacher. Thus, this work focuses on a discussion of the PIBID at the Faculty of Sciences UNESP Bauru, aimed at subprojects of graduate students linked to the areas of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry, working in an interdisciplinary way. I interviewed five teachers (three area coordinators and two contributors) seeking to verify, in their view, the understanding about the program and what were the major difficulties in the training of teachers. For contributors teachers and coordinators of the subprojects, interdisciplinarity has a very important role in the training of new teachers, and the PIBID allows to work this concept more broadly than just in the mandatory classes. However, a program so big like the PIBID comes with problems and it is in this context that this study was conducted. Coordinator teachers and contributors of the subprojects identified flaws in the program that may affect the activities proposed in the institutional design
