Steam injection is the most used thermal recovery method of oil nowadays because of the high degree of development of the technique that allows high recovery factors. However, injection of superheated steam into the reservoir affects the entire structure of the well, including the cemented layer that presents a retrogression of compressive strength and increases the permeability due to formation of more crystalline and denser phases at temperatures above 110 °C. These changes result in failures in the cement that favor the entrance of formation fluids into the annulus space resulting in unsafe operations and restrictions in the economic life of the well. But the strength retrogression can be prevented by partial replacement of cement by silica-based materials that reduce the CaO/SiO2 ratio of cement slurries changing the trajectory of the reactions, converting those deleterious phases in phases with satisfactory mechanical strength and permeability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the behavior of a ceramic waste material rich in silica in partial and total substitution of a mineral additive used to fight the strength retrogression of cement slurries subjected to high temperatures. The evaluation was made by compression, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetry (TG/DTG). The samples were submitted to a cycle of low temperature (38 °C) for 28 days and a cycle of low temperature followed by exposure to 280 ºC and 1000 psi by 3 days. The results showed that slurries with additions of up to 30% of the waste material are not enough to prevent the strength retrogression, while slurries with additions of the waste material combined with silica flour in various proportions produced hydrated products of low Ca/Si ratios that maintained the compressive strength at satisfactory levels

The aim of this study was to evaluate and characterize phenotypically goats with different levels of resistance to gastrointestinal nematodes. For a period of 93 days, 60 F2 goats originated from ½ Saanen and ½ Anglo- nubian animals were kept in the same area of pasture. Every seven days, feces and blood were collected for eggs per gram counts of feces (EPG) and cultures of feces and to determinate the number of eosinophils, packed cell volume and total plasma protein, respectively. On the same day, the animals were weighed and submitted to body score condition and FAMACHA method to worm control. Based on the average of EPG, the twelve animals with the highest average (susceptible group) and the twelve animals with the lowest average of EPG (resistant group) were selected, slaughtered and necropsied to recovery, counting andparasites identification. The resistant animals present lower EPG mean (P <0.0001) and 4.7 folder less parasites than susceptible animals. The resistant group presented higher mean packed cell volume (26.48%) and total plasma protein (6.24 g / dl) than susceptible one (24,04% e 5,82g/dl, respectively). The average number of eosinophils was similar in both groups The Haemonchus sp. was the most prevalent in the culture of feces, followed by Trischostrongylus sp. and Oesophagostomum sp.. The counting of nematodes in the abomasum of susceptible group was higher than in resistant one. The species identified were H. contortus in abomasums and T. colubriformis in small intestine. It can be concluded that EPG, packed cell volume and total plasma protein were useful phenotypic markers to identify animals as resistant and susceptible to gastrointestinal nematodes infections

Introdução: a avaliação da pressão inspiratória nasal (SNIP) é considerada uma manobra complementar da Pressão Inspiratória Máxima estática (PImax) em várias condições clínicas, porém não há relatos na obesidade. Por outro lado, a obesidade tem um importante impacto nos músculos respiratórios especialmente com maiores gordura abdominal o que provavelmente pode ser detectado na avaliação da SNIP que mensura mais precisamente a pressão diafragmática. Objetivo: analisar em obesos a relação entre SNIP e variáveis respiratórias e marcadores de adiposidade. Material e Método: num estudo transversal um total de 92 obesos (38.3±10.2 anos) sem história de doença respiratória ou cardíaca diagnosticada. Foram avaliados na espirometria (capacidade vital forçada-CVF; volume expiratório forçado no primeiro segundo-VEF1; volume de reserva expiratório-VRE) e pressões respiratórias estática (PImax, PEmax e SNIP) e dinâmica (ventilação voluntária máxima-VVM). Sendo considerados os marcadores de adiposidade: índice de adiposidade corporal-IAC; índice de massa corporal-IMC e circunferências do quadril (CQ), cintura (CC) e pescoço (CP). Resultados: 65 obesos mórbidos (IMC=50.8±8.1Kg/m2) e 27 obesos não mórbidos (IMC=35.6±2.7Kg/m2) foram homogêneos (p>0.05) na SNIP (99.1±24.5cmH2O, 87% do predito) e PImax (107.3±26.4cmH2O, 109% do predito). Existe correlação (r=0.5) entre SNIP e PImax somente no grupo de obesos mórbidos. De acordo com as correlações houve associação entre variáveis respiratórias (CVF r=0.48; VEF1 r=0.54; e VVM r=0.54), valores antropométricos (idade r=-0.44) e SNIP somente para os obesos mórbidos. Esses achados foram certificados quando também comparados a quantidade de gordura ao redor do pescoço (CP≥43cm). O modelo de regressão linear stepwise mostrou que a VVM parece ser o melhor preditor para explicar a SNIP nos obesos mórbidos. Nestes obesos a SNIP foi levemente mais baixa (87%predito) que os valores esperados para indivíduos brasileiros saudáveis. Conclusão: em obesos mórbidos a SNIP é moderadamente relacionada a PImax. A SNIP parece ser mais relacionada a VVM que à marcadores de adiposidade.

Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) whose classic features (menstrual irregularity of oligo/ amenorrhea type, chronic anovulation, infertility and hyperandrogenism clinical and/ or biochemical), is associated with aspects of metabolic syndrome (MS), as obesity and insulin resistance. The level of obesity determines different levels of inflammation, increasing cytokines participants of metabolic and endocrine functions, beyond modulate the immune response. Metabolic changes, added to the imbalance of sex hormones underlying irregular menstruation observed in (PCOS) can trigger allergic processes and elevation of total and specific IgE antibodies indicate that a sensitization process was started. Objective: To evaluate the influence of PCOS on biochemical parameters and levels of total and specific IgE to aeroallergens in obese women. Methods: After approval by the Committee of Ethics in Research, were recruited 80 volunteers with BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 and age between 18 and 45 years. Among these, 40 with PCOS according to the Rotterdam criteria and 40 women without PCOS (control group). All participants were analysed with regard to anthropometric, clinical, gynecological parameters, interviewed using a questionnaire, and underwent blood sampling for realization of laboratory tests of clinical biochemistry: Total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL- cholesterol, Triglycerides, Fasting glucose, Urea, Creatinine, Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and immunological: total and specific IgE to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Blomia tropicalis, Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides microceras.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 15.0 software through the chi-square tests, Fisher, Student t test and binary logistic regression, with significance level (p <0.05). Results: It was observed in the group of obese women with PCOS that 29 (72.5%) had menstrual cycle variable and 27 (67.5%) had difficulty getting pregnant. According to waist-hip ratio, higher average was also observed in obese PCOS (0.87). Blood level of HDL (36.9 mg/dL) and ALT (29.3 U/L) were above normal levels in obese women with PCOS, with statistically significant relationship. In the analysis of total and specific IgE to D. pteronyssinus high results were also prevalent in obese PCOS, with blood level (365,22 IU/mL) and (6.83 kU/L), respectively, also statistically significant. Conclusions: Observed predominance of cases with high levels of total IgE in the group of obese women with PCOS, 28 (70%) of the participants, whose mean blood concentration of the group was 365.22 IU/mL. In the analysis of Specific IgE between the groups, the allergen Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus showed greater dispersion and average the results of sensitization in the group of obese PCOS, whose mean blood concentration was 6.83 kU/l. Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is endemic in Brazil and the northeast region had the highest incidence of the disease , despite, in the last 30 years, it has spread to all geographic regions of the country. Leishmania infantum is the m ain etiological agent of VL in Latin America, Europe and North Africa. However, not all infected individuals develop the disease; in fact, the majority present spontaneous re solution of infection without symptoms. The evaluation of the immunological profil e has been mostly conducted stimulating, with Leishmania spp. antigen, peripheral blood mononuclear cells isolated from subjects with VL. These studies showed that VL patients had an inhibition of both, lymphocyte proliferation and proinflammatory response to Leishmania spp. antigen. Our study aimed to evaluate the immune response in active LV, cured post treatment and asymptomatic infection. To reach this aim, we analyzed immunophenotypic features related to activation, Treg and memory lymphocytes, by flow cytometry, as well as, evaluation of cytokine production, in ex vivo or in whole blood culture. In active VL volunteers, a longitu dinal study was conducted with reassessment at 4 and 14 months after clinical cure. The control group included individuals th at live d in endemic region and were either Positive Control, consisting of individuals with positive anti - L eishmania spp. serology and/or positive PCR for Leishmania spp. and Negative Control composed by individuals with negative anti - Leishmania antibodie s serology and negative PCR for Leishmania . During VL, CD4 lymphocytes showed greater activation and memory profile s and were the major source of cytokines in culture when compared to CD8 lymphocytes , and these were not Leishmania specific. There were act ivated lymphocytes during VL (CD4 + CD69 + :4.9%) when compared to control groups, Positive (CD4 + CD69 + :1.96%, p=0.0045) and Negative (CD4 + CD69 + :1.35%, p=0.006), on the other hand, this was non - specific activation. The lymphocyte activation profile remain ed el evated even 14 months post treatmen t. A fter clinical cure , the activation was Leishmania specific (CD4 + CD25 + absence of SLA: 8.4%, and presence of SLA: 10.7% p=0.0279). CD8 + CD25 + lymphocytes were able to produce Leishmania specific IFN - γ in both, Positive Controls (absence of SLA 5.2% and presence of SLA: 9.5%, p=0.0391) and Cured 4 month (absence of SLA: 3.9%; presence of SLA: 10.7% p=0.0098). Whole blood culture cells, of VL patients, were able to produce IFN - γ, by SLA stimulation (absence of SLA: 28.0 pg ∕mL, and presence: 44.3 pg∕mL p=0.0020) as well as recovered groups (absence of SLA 2.3 pg∕mL and presence of SLA 139.8 pg∕mL, p=0.0005). However, the high level of IL - 10 seem ed to inhibit pro - inflammatory activity of IFN - γ and TNF - α during symptomatic dis ease . Unlike other pro - inflammatory cytokines, active VL group d id not produce Leishmania specific IL - 2 (absence of SLA 2.4 pg∕mL and presence of SLA: 2.6 pg∕mL). Based on these data we conclude that the restoration of lymphocyte activation and decreased i n IL - 10 Leishmania specific production were related to a protective immune profile.

Objetivos: Estimar a prevalência de alterações do filme lacrimal e da doença do olho seco (DOS), comparar as mudanças na pressão intraocular (PIO) e comparar as espessuras macular e da camada de fibras nervosas da retina (CFNR), entre mulheres com síndrome dos ovários policísticos (SOP) e mulheres saudáveis, estratificando-as em condições clínicas, metabólicas e inflamatórias. Metodologia: O estudo incluiu 45 mulheres com SOP e 47 mulheres saudáveis ovulatórias submetidas a avaliações clínico-ginecológicas e oftalmológicas, incluindo propedêuticas para a avaliação do filme lacrimal e medida da PIO, e medição da espessura macular, da CFNR e parâmetros do disco óptico usando tomografia de coerência óptica. Resultados: Tempo de ruptura do filme lacrimal (TRFL; p=0.001) e impregnação por fluoresceína (p=0.006) apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significantes entre os grupos estudados. A prevalência de DOS foi de 44,4% nas portadoras de SOP. Houve redução estatisticamente significativa do TRFL na presença de SOP (p=0.001). Além disso, houve efeito estatisticamente significativo de intolerância à glicose e síndrome metabólica/inflamação na impregnação por fluoresceina (p=0.004; p=0.015, respectivamente). A PIO encontrou-se estatisticamente mais elevada no grupo SOP que no grupo controle (p=0.011). Houve um aumento na média do IPC (índice pressão-córnea) com a associação entre SOP e da síndrome metabólica (p = 0.005); A média da espessura da CNFR superior ao redor do nervo óptico foi estatisticamente mais espessa nas voluntárias com SOP que nas voluntárias saudáveis (p=0.036); Após estratificação pela presença de resistência insulínica, as médias dos subcampos das espessuras maculares “macular interno temporal, macular interno inferior, macular interno nasal e macular externo nasal, foram mais espessas no grupo SOP que no grupo controle (p<0.05); Houve associação significativa entre obesidade e resistência insulínica (p=0.037), e intolerância à glicose (p=0.001), com aumento médio do componente principal 1 (CP1), e, na presença de síndrome metabólica (p<0.0001), com aumento médio do componente principal 2 (CP2), respectivamente, em relação à espessura macular total. Na presença de obesidade e inflamação, houve redução no escore médio da CP2 (p=0.034), em relação à espessura da CFNR na mácula. xviii Conclusões: Há uma associação da SOP, suas alterações metabólicas e inflamatórias com alterações do filme lacrimal e com mudanças na PIO. A diminuição na espessura da CFNR macular e aumento da espessura total macular estão possivelmente associadas às alterações metabólicas, e, o aumento na espessura da CFNR ao redor do nervo óptico estão provavelmente associadas às alterações hormonais, inerentes à SOP.
