Horace W. Slocum Journals - Accession 23

The Horace W. Slocum Journals include handwritten and typewritten accounts of Mr. Slocum’s journeys through South Carolina, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York, Illinois, New Hampshire, and other states in search of rocks and minerals. Of special interest are photographs and maps of geological and mining sites in the typewritten, edited version of the journals. There is also a map index. The journals extend mainly from 1938 to 1956.

John Jones Letter - Accession 7 - M6 (16)

The John Jones Letter was written by Mr. Jones in 1841, a farmer, from Montevallo, Alabama, to Jesse Trusdel of Santon in Kershaw District, South Carolina, in which Jones discusses economic and health conditions in Shelby County, Alabama, his family affairs, and future plans. The collection includes the envelope (in pieces) and a handwritten transcription.

Civil War Song - Accession 56 - M26 (38)

The Civil War Song consists of a photocopy of handwritten lyrics of the American Civil War song entitled, “The Bonny Blue Flag”. This document was produced in the 1860s.

Rock Hill History - Accession 42 - M17 (27)

The Rock Hill History is a handwritten history covering the period from the founding of the city of Rock Hill, SC in 1852 to 1890 and describes the city’s founders, merchants, industries, schools and churches, teachers, newspapers, libraries, and banking and railroad facilities.
