This work focuses on development of a method to statistically study forming and springback problems of TRansformation Induced Plasticity (TRIP) through an industrial case study. A Design of Experiments (DOE) approach was used to study the sensitivity of predictions to four user input parameters in implicit and explicit sheet metal forming codes. Numerical results were compared to experimental measurements of parts stamped in an industrial production line. The accuracy of forming strain predictions for TRIP steel were comparable with conventional steel, but the springback predictions of TRIP steel were far less accurate. The statistical importance of selected parameters for forming and springback prediction is also discussed. Changes of up to ±10% in Young's modulus and coefficient of friction were found to be insignificant in improving or deteriorating the statistical correlation of springback accuracies.

We have synthesized two kinds of new Lewis-base ionic liquids (ILs); one is based on the relatively strong Lewis basic acetate anion, and the other is a salt composed of a mono-alkylated diamine such that the Lewis base site is incorporated in the cation. 1-Octyl-4-aza-1-azonia-bicyclo[2.2.2]octane bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide, [C8dabco]TFSA, and N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium acetate, [p1,4]OAc, melted into fluid liquids at 26 and 81 °C, respectively. The thermal decomposition of [p1,4]OAc started at around 150 °C, whereas the thermal stability of [C8dabco]TFSA was almost equal to that of typical TFSA-based ILs in spite of the Lewis base site. This suggests that if the Lewis base site is incorporated into the cation the IL can maintain higher thermal stability. In addition, as a further result of the presence of the basic nitrogen, [C8dabco]TFSA can dissolve hydrated Cu(NO3)2 whereas the other TFSA-based ILs cannot.

The hydrogen diffusion and phase transformation in a titanium particle were studied based on thermodynamic calculation. The mechanisms of hydrogen diffusion in different phases (alpha-Ti, beta-Ti and TiHx) were analyzed. A mobility database was developed for titanium– hydrogen system based on the experimental works on hydrogen diffusion coefficient reported in literature and the fundamental of diffusion. To implement the calculation, a commercial software package for the simulation of diffusion-controlled phase transformation was used. The hydrogen diffusion process, hydrogen distribution, phase transformation and phase growth rate during hydrogenization of a titanium particle at temperatures of 560 K, 800K and 1000K were discussed. The thermodynamics and kinetics analysis provided quantitative insight into the diffusion process and improved the understanding of diffusion mechanism and phase transformation.

Background: It has been suggested that those who are habitually high caffeine consumers ingest greater quantities of snack foods both in and outside the laboratory. Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) are a major contributor to caffeine consumption and evidence links SSB consumption with poor dietary intake.

Objective: To determine whether varying the concentration of caffeine in SSBs influences snack food consumption and energy intake.

Methods: Caffeine taste thresholds were assessed using the International Standards Organization method for assessing taste sensitivity. In a crossover study design, participants (n=23, 26±5 years old, 58% female) were provided with a standardized meal on 4 days and simultaneously consumed SSBs with varied levels of caffeine (0, 0.67, 1.16, and 1.65 mM). The intake of food and beverage was recorded following each meal session.

Results: A one way between groups analysis of variance revealed no significant main effect of caffeine concentration on consumption of SSBs [F (3, 92)=0.154, p=0.927] or food [F (3, 92)=0.305, p=0.822]. Pearson correlation analysis identified no significant correlations between the amount of food and SSB consumed (R=−0.031–0.415, p=0.062–0.893), or the amount of food and SSB consumed with body mass index and waist circumference (R=0.000 to −0.380, p=0.073–0.999). An individual's oral sensitivity to caffeine was not associated with SSB consumption (R=0.045 to −0.309, p=0.152–0.839) or the consumption of food (R=−0.052 to −0.327, p=0.128–0.812).

Conclusions: The concentration of caffeine in SSBs did not influence the amount of food or SSB consumed.

The mechanical behaviour of Fe-18Mn-0.6C-1Al (wt%) TWIP steel was modelled in the temperature range from room temperature to 400°C. The proposed constitutive model was based on the Kocks-Mecking-Estrin (KME) model. The model parameters were determined using extensive experimental measurements of the physical parameters such as the dislocation mean free path and the volume fraction of twinned grains. More than 100 grains with a total area of ~300μm2 were examined at different strain levels over the entire stress-strain curve. Uniaxial tensile deformation of the TWIP steel was modelled for different deformation temperatures using a modelling approach which considers two distinct populations of grains: twinned and twin-free ones. A key point of the work was a meticulous experimental determination of the evolution of the volume fraction of twinned grains during uniaxial tensile deformation. This information was implemented in a phase-mixture model that yielded a very good agreement with the experimental tensile behaviour for the tested range of deformation temperatures. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.

OBJECTIVES: The Health of the Nation Outcome Scales (HoNOS) are mandated outcome-measures in many mental-health jurisdictions. When HoNOS are used in different care settings, it is important to assess if setting specific bias exists. This article examines the consistency of HoNOS in a sample of psychiatric patients transitioned from acute inpatient care and community centres.

SETTING: A regional mental health service with both acute and community facilities.

PARTICIPANTS: 111 psychiatric patients were transferred from inpatient care to community care from 2012 to 2014. Their HoNOS scores were extracted from a clinical database; Each inpatient-discharge assessment was followed by a community-intake assessment, with the median period between assessments being 4 days (range 0-14). Assessor experience and professional background were recorded.

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES: The difference of HoNOS at inpatient-discharge and community-intake were assessed with Pearson correlation, Cohen's κ and effect size.

RESULTS: Inpatient-discharge HoNOS was on average lower than community-intake HoNOS. The average HoNOS was 8.05 at discharge (median 7, range 1-22), and 12.16 at intake (median 12, range 1-25), an average increase of 4.11 (SD 6.97). Pearson correlation between two total scores was 0.073 (95% CI -0.095 to 0.238) and Cohen's κ was 0.02 (95% CI -0.02 to 0.06). Differences did not appear to depend on assessor experience or professional background.

CONCLUSIONS: Systematic change in the HoNOS occurs at inpatient-to-community transition. Some caution should be exercised in making direct comparisons between inpatient HoNOS and community HoNOS scores.

Saliency detection is critical to many applications in computer vision by eliminating redundant backgrounds. The saliency detection approaches can be divided into two categories, i.e., top-down and bottom-up. Among them, bottom-up models have attracted more attention due to their simple mechanisms. However, many existing bottom-up models are not robust to crowded backgrounds because of missing salient regions within feedforward frameworks which is often not effective for complex scenes. We tackle these problems by modifying and extending a bottom-up saliency detection model through three phases, (1) constructing a hierarchical sequence of images from the perspective of entropy, (2) estimated mid-level cues are used as feedback information, (3) subsequently generating saliency maps by global context and local uniqueness in a graph-based framework. We also compare the proposed bottom-up model with state-of-the-art approaches on two benchmark datasets to evaluate its saliency detection performance. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed bottom-up saliency detection approach is not only robust to both cluttered and clean scenes, but also able to obtain objects with different scales.

A Mg-5 wt.%Al-2 wt.%Nd alloy has been prepared by a powder metallurgical route using a blend of two dissimilar alloy powders. The initial consolidation of the powders was achieved through a single equal channel angular extrusion pass at 150 °C. After heat treatment at temperatures between 420 °C and 530 °C, it was possible to produce a microstructure that consisted of a uniform distribution of Al3Nd and Al11Nd3 precipitates in a magnesium matrix. These precipitates displayed distinct orientation relationships with the matrix. The size and shape of the precipitates depended on the heat treatment temperature and time. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. The present study successfully developed orally deliverable multimodular zinc (Zn) iron oxide (Fe3O4)-saturated bovine lactoferrin (bLf)-loaded polymeric nanocapsules (NCs), and evaluated their theranostic potential (antitumor efficacy, magnetophotothermal efficacy and imaging capability) in an in vivo human xenograft CpG-island methylator phenotype (CIMP)-1(+)/CIMP2(-)/chromosome instability-positive colonic adenocarcinoma (Caco2) and claudin-low, triple-negative (ER(-)/PR(-)/HER2(-); MDA-MB-231) breast cancer model. Mice fed orally on the Zn-Fe-bLf NC diet showed downregulation in tumor volume and complete regression in tumor volume after 45 days of feeding. In human xenograft colon cancer, vehicle-control NC diet-group (n=5) mice showed a tumor volume of 52.28±11.55 mm(3), and Zn-Fe-bLf NC diet (n=5)-treated mice had a tumor-volume of 0.10±0.073 mm(3). In the human xenograft breast cancer model, Zn-Fe-bLf NC diet (n=5)-treated mice showed a tumor volume of 0.051±0.062 mm(3) within 40 days of feeding. Live mouse imaging conducted by near-infrared fluorescence imaging of Zn-Fe-bLf NCs showed tumor site-specific localization and regression of colon and breast tumor volume. Ex vivo fluorescence-imaging analysis of the vital organs of mice exhibited sparse localization patterns of Zn-Fe-bLf NCs and also confirmed tumor-specific selective localization patterns of Zn-Fe-bLf NCs. Dual imaging using magnetic resonance imaging and computerized tomography scans revealed an unprecedented theranostic ability of the Zn-Fe-bLf NCs. These observations warrant consideration of multimodular Zn-Fe-bLf NCs for real-time cancer imaging and simultaneous cancer-targeted therapy.

BACKGROUND: Almost half of young children do not achieve minimum recommendations of 60 daily minutes in physical activity. Physical activity is potentially an important determinant of the development of motor competence in children. This study is one of very few longitudinal studies in this area and the first to investigate early childhood physical activity as a predictor of subsequent motor skill competence. METHODS: Children were assessed as part of the Melbourne InFANT Program longitudinal cohort study at 19 months, 3.5 years and 5 years. Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) (accelerometry) was assessed at each time point. At age 5, children were also assessed in actual (Test of Gross Motor Development-2) and perceived motor competence (Pictorial Scale of Perceived Movement Skill Competence). General linear models were performed with all 12 skills (six object control and six locomotor skills), both actual and perceived, at age 5 as the respective outcome variables. Predictor variables alternated between MVPA at 19 months, 3.5 years and 5 years. RESULTS: Based on standardized TGMD-2 scores most children were average or below in their skill level at age 5. MVPA at 19 months was not a predictor of actual or perceived skill at age 5. MVPA at 3.5 years was associated with actual locomotor skill (B = 0.073, p = 0.033) and perceived total skill at 5 years of age (B = 0.059, p = 0.044). MVPA was not a predictor of actual or perceived object control skill at any age. CONCLUSION: Parents and preschool staff should be informed that more time in MVPA as a preschool child contributes to locomotor skill and to perceptions of skill ability in a child of school starting age. Understanding this relationship will assist in intervention development.
