Thailand is undergoing a period of major educational reform. Drawing on Thai and Australian experiences, ways of assisting school leaders to develop more collaborative methods of decision-making in Thai schools are investigated. The thesis reports a number of innovative techniques which are shown to work effectively in professional development programs for Thai school leaders.

This qualitative research is an examination of the experience of learning within a mixed-mode teachers' professional development program. It examines how learning is affected by 'location' - geographic, institutional and personal, and how teaching may take location into account. Approaches to study, influences on learning and transformational learning are explored.

Examines conflicting views about early literacy in homes, Preschools and schools as interactive technologies challenge traditional print-based literacies. The research found that significant differences between children's multimodal literacies and versions of emergent policies, may threaten successful literacy acquisition.

This research aims to examine Thai students' critical thinking ability in reading English by using materials developed by a research team using a collaborative action research methodology. Initially, a survey of self-percpetions of Thai secondary students on their critical thinking ability was conducted. Then, two Thai teachers were interviewed about their materials and methodology in teaching students to read critically. Lastly, a literature of critical literacy was reviewed to introduce the notions to Thai teachers and Thai students.

This thesis uses postcolonial theory to extend beyond science education's traditional research areas and explore how globalisation has influenced its recent policies and practices, and its growing interest in sociocultural issues.

Using international concepts of best practice, the research showed that Thai student teacher's practicum is enhanced if there are systematic and sustained opportunities to participate in reflective discussion with peers and lecturers. The research used the Buddhist concept of Kalayanamitr as a metaphor for the relationship between professional practice and reflection on that practice. This research sets new directions for teacher education and educational research in Thailand.

Analyses the interaction between white and indigenous cultures, specifically the impact of the white practices of Christianisation, bureaucracy and commercialisation on indigenous women's cultural and religious practices, values and cosmology (Tjukurrpa), and argues that indigenous women's gynocentric cultural initiatives should be better resourced.

This research is a case study of action research investigating the effects of using word problems with Chinese Malaysian post-secondary students studying mathematics as an enabling science. A variety of word problems, a discussion method, reflective and peer learning, specific values in mathematics, and relevant socio-cultural and language issues were explored.

This study focuses on non-formal education provision for women workers in industry in Thailand. It consists of a dissertation and four elective studies. The dissertation explored the possibilities to improve women workers' quality of life. The experience gained from the research formed the Participatory Approach Model called "PAM".

This textually playful study focuses on gaining a deeper understanding of teacher beliefs about English and the influence of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs). Because English is in transformation, these insights into teachers' perpectives of their subject, technology and change will contribute to the productive rethinking of the profession. It employs narrative research, diaglogics and Actor Network Theory techniques.

A close analysis is made of her current practice of educational leadership in Indonesia.
