The article provides information on biotechnology in Asia. According to research, Asian Pacific biotechnology is known for its competent staff, world class technologies, efficient utilities, and abundance of reasonably priced raw materials. Other attributes of the Asia Pacific region that makes it a sought-after location in conducting clinical studies are also discussed. Meanwhile, the role of Contract Research Organization (CRO) in clinical studies in the Asia Pacific region is also presented.

Biography : an interdisciplinary quarterly

The article presents information about the December 2005 issue of the journal "Biography: An Interdisciplinary Quarterly." The Annual Bibliography for 2004-05, while containing few surprises, is nevertheless rather overwhelming. The numbers are very suggestive. Almost 1,000 individual entries appear: 127 Books, 451 Articles in 63 Collections or Special issues, 298 articles in Periodicals, and 104 Doctoral Dissertations. Publication advertisements appear in this issue for Miriam Fuchs's "The Text is Myself: Women's Life Writing and Catastrophe," and William Todd Schultz's "Handbook of Psychobiography."

Interest, nations, and the state in development: Instability in archipelic Southeast Asia

The Southeast Asian archipelago has become marked by divisions
within existing states, placing significant local constraints upon
the process of ‘development’. These divisions include ‘vertical’
challenges to the state, i.e. they have the capacity to split the state
into geographic divisions based on proto-nationalist identity, and
‘horizontal’ challenges to the state, defined by ethnic and
communal rivalry and conflict. This brief paper will canvas some
issues in such divisions.
