Hendy Hendrata is an Indonesian who came to Australia as part of the Colombo Plan. He studied at the University of Sydney in 1955-58, and then studied at Melbourne University in the 1960s. He studied aeronautical engineering initially in Sydney, before shifting to Commerce when he moved to Melbourne and he completed a Bachelor degree in this field. During this time he also travelled, spending time in parts of Europe, and worked for various radio broadcasters.
