This booklet for childminders and staff in day nurseries, playgroups and craches outlines straightforward, practical advice and information on a range of nutritional issues related to children up to the age of five to ensure each child gets all the nutrients they need to stay healthy.

IPH response to Department of Education (NI) draft Early Years Strategy

Tackling inequalities in social, cognitive and personal development in the early years is recognised as a priority action to reduce health inequalities. IPH welcomed the development of a strategic approach to the early years in Northern Ireland and drew evidence from the recent Health Impacts of Education – a review (IPH, 2008) in response to the Department of Education (NI) Early Years (0-6) Strategy

The conference aims to provide input from national and international experts in the field of early years who will contribute to a debate about how stakeholders in Northern Ireland can progress this key agenda.Conference purpose• To inform stakeholders of the science of early years /early brain development and the links between support in antenatal and early years and improved outcomes in health, education, social and emotional development;• To highlight key local developments such as Family Nurse Partnerships;• To consider the economic benefits across society based on successful early years approaches;• To showcase emerging community and city approaches to early years interventions;• To promote and agree follow up actions.
