Using microdata, we analyse the determinants of firm relocation and conventional outsourcing decisions as a way to reduce employment. The results for a sample of 32 countries show the relevance of factors not considered previously in the literature. Firms that are below average in quality or innovation have a higher propensity to externalise part of their production through outsourcing, while lower relative profitability and longer time to market for new products each imply a higher probability of relocation.

Highly competitive environments are leading companies to implement SupplyChain Management (SCM) to improve performance and gain a competitiveadvantage. SCM involves integration, co-ordination and collaborationacross organisations and throughout the supply chain. It means that SCMrequires internal (intraorganisational) and external (interorganisational)integration. This paper examines the Logistics-Production and Logistics-Marketing interfaces and their relation with the external integrationprocess. The study also investigates the causal impact of these internaland external relationships on the company s logistical service performance.To analyse this, an empirical study was conducted in the Spanish Fast MovingConsumer Goods (FMCG) sector.

This paper resolves three empirical puzzles in outsourcing by formalizing the adaptationcost of long-term performance contracts. Side-trading with a new partner alongside a long-term contract (to exploit an adaptation-requiring investment) is usually less effective than switching to the new partner when the contract expires. So long-term contracts that prevent holdup of specific investments may induce holdup of adaptation investments. Contract length therefore trades of specific and adaptation investments. Length should increase with the importance and specificity of self-investments, and decrease with the importance of adaptation investments for which side-trading is ineffective. My general model also shows how optimal length falls with cross-investments and wasteful investments.

Nowadays, the Reverse Logistics field is becoming very important. On one hand, laws areimposing companies to be responsible for the contamination made by their products. On theother hand, companies have discovered the profits derived from a good Reverse Logisticsprocess. This paper is the result of the work done by a group of companies from the SpanishEditorial sector to understand and improve their Reverse Logistics process. The paperdescribes the characteristics of the Reverse Logistics process in this sector and theimprovements identified by the work group .

This paper analyses the integration process that firms follow toimplement Supply Chain Management (SCM). This study has beeninspired in the integration model proposed by Stevens (1989). Hesuggests that companies internally integrate first and then extendintegration to other supply chain members, such as customers andsuppliers.To analyse the integration process a survey was conducted amongSpanish food manufacturers. The results show that there are companiesin three different integration stages. In stage I, companies are notintegrated. In stage II, companies have a medium-high level of internalintegration in the Logistics-Production interface, a low level ofinternal integration in the Logistics-Marketing interface, and a mediumlevel of external integration. And, in stage III, companies have highlevels of integration in both internal interfaces and in some of theirsupply chain relationships.

Este proyecto nace de la necesidad de realizar una integración de los sistemas informáticos de una empresa en una multinacional; las empresas disponen de servicios de outsourcing en sistemas de información. Al tratarse de una integración operativa, sólo trataremos de trasladar los servicios de centro de atención al usuario, soporte local y ofimática desde un outsourcing de servicios a otro, añadiendo los cambios de procesos necesarios para disponer de un único entorno de trabajo. El cambio de entorno de trabajo se ha de realizar sin perdida de disponibilidad ni de información.

Aquest treball parla de l’externalització de serveis. Hi ha una primera part mes bibliogràfica on tractarem d’explicar l’historia del outsourcing, el procés d’externalització, els avantatges e inconvenients, i tot tipus de conceptes per entendre millor tot el treball. Després hi ha una segona part d’investigació, on expliquem com ha evolucionat l’externalització del serveis en el temps, que països son els que mes externalitzen els seus serveis i quin tipus de serveis externalitzen aquets països. Els principals països a estudi son: Espanya, Grècia, Itàlia, Portugal i França. Hem decidit agafar aquets països ja que tot plegats son a la zona sud de Europa y presenten característiques semblants.

Nowadays, service providers in the Cloud offer complex services ready to be used as it was a commodity like water or electricity to their customers with any other extra effort for them. However, providing these services implies a high management effort which requires a lot of human interaction. Furthermore, an efficient resource management mechanism considering only provider's resources is, though necessary, not enough, because the provider's profit is limited by the amount of resources it owns. Dynamically outsourcing resources to other providers in response to demand variation avoids this problem and makes the provider to get more profit. A key technology for achieving these goals is virtualization which facilitates provider's management and provides on-demand virtual environments, which are isolated and consolidated in order to achieve a better utilization of the provider's resources. Nevertheless, dealing with some virtualization capabilities implies an effort for the user in order to take benefit from them. In order to avoid this problem, we are contributing the research community with a virtualized environment manager which aims to provide virtual machines that fulfils with the user requirements. Another challenge is sharing resources among different federated Cloud providers while exploiting the features of virtualization in a new approach for facilitating providers' management. This project aims for reducing provider's costs and at the same time fulfilling the quality of service agreed with the customers while maximizing the provider's revenue. It considers resource management at several layers, namely locally to each node in the provider, among different nodes in the provider, and among different federated providers. This latter layer supports the novel capabilities of outsourcing when the local resources are not enough to fulfil the users demand, and offering resources to other providers when the local resources are underused.

Este proyecto intenta dar solución al problema que se ha encontrado la empresa VGG Aplicaciones,S.C.P. a la hora de hacer pruebas en el desarrollo de su principal producto de logística Appia para integración con transportes. El programa que se ha realizado en este proyecto, pretende integrar todas las diferentes agencias de transportes en una única aplicación para su correcta administración desde un mismo entorno de trabajo y no duplicar tareas.

En la logística de Vall Companys Grup, un problema fonamental que cal resoldre és el de la situació geogràfica de tots els elements que participen en la logística, com ara fàbriques, granges, camions i magatzems; a més, se n'han d'estudiar les interrelacions per a aconseguir un aprofitament òptim dels recursos disponibles. Per a resoldre aquest problema, l'eina adequada seria un sistema d'informació geogràfica (SIG). En aquest projecte s'estudia què és un SIG i els conceptes que engloba, i se'n presenta un de comercial: Geomedia Professional 5.2. Fent servir aquest producte, s'ha construït un prototipus que estableix les bases per a poder resoldre el problema de logística de Vall Companys Grup i que mostra les potencialitats de Geomedia Professional 5.2.
