El objetivo principal de este trabajo es proponer un modelo de organización y de funcionamiento de un laboratorio de Unmanned Aircraft Systems para Gestión Aeronáutica de la UAB, a partir de la fijación de unos objetivos a corto, medio y largo plazo, e identificando un modelo de toma de decisión de cambios en la estrategia de desarrollo del laboratorio que permita la adaptación a las posibles evoluciones del entorno

We have investigated the structure of double quantum dots vertically coupled at zero magnetic field within local-spin-density functional theory. The dots are identical and have a finite width, and the whole system is axially symmetric. We first discuss the effect of thickness on the addition spectrum of one single dot. Next we describe the structure of coupled dots as a function of the interdot distance for different electron numbers. Addition spectra, Hund's rule, and molecular-type configurations are discussed. It is shown that self-interaction corrections to the density-functional results do not play a very important role in the calculated addition spectra

Within local-spin-density functional theory, we have investigated the ¿dissociation¿ of few-electron circular vertical semiconductor double quantum ring artificial molecules at zero magnetic field as a function of interring distance. In a first step, the molecules are constituted by two identical quantum rings. When the rings are quantum mechanically strongly coupled, the electronic states are substantially delocalized, and the addition energy spectra of the artificial molecule resemble those of a single quantum ring in the few-electron limit. When the rings are quantum mechanically weakly coupled, the electronic states in the molecule are substantially localized in one ring or the other, although the rings can be electrostatically coupled. The effect of a slight mismatch introduced in the molecules from nominally identical quantum wells, or from changes in the inner radius of the constituent rings, induces localization by offsetting the energy levels in the quantum rings. This plays a crucial role in the appearance of the addition spectra as a function of coupling strength particularly in the weak coupling limit.

An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle is a non-piloted airplane designed to operate in dangerous and repetitive situations. With the advent of UAV's civil applications, UAVs are emerging as a valid option in commercial scenarios. If it must be economically viable, the same platform should implement avariety of missions with little reconguration time and overhead.This paper presents a middleware-based architecture specially suited to operate as a exible payload and mission controller in a UAV. The system is composed of low-costcomputing devices connected by network. The functionality is divided into reusable services distributed over a number ofnodes with a middleware managing their lifecycle and communication.Some research has been done in this area; yetit is mainly focused on the control domain and in its realtime operation. Our proposal differs in that we address the implementation of adaptable and reconfigurable unmannedmissions in low-cost and low-resources hardware.

This paper analyzes the effects of horizontal mergers on innovation and consumer welfare in a vertically related industry context, in which downstream firms compete for customers with a differentiated final good and can undertake R&D activities to reduce their unit costs. Upstream and downstream horizontal mergers can take place. The results suggest that competition authorities aiming to promote innovation and consumer welfare should treat upstream and downstream mergers differently, since horizontal mergers between upstream firms are detrimental to innovation and consumer welfare. By contrast, policy makers should evaluate the market characteristics under downstream integration. We show that downstream horizontal mergers can be both innovation and consumer welfare enhancing in the short run, when the markets are sufficiently small. Keywords: Horizontal Mergers. Innovation. The paper presents a foundation model for Marxian theories of the breakdown of capitalism based on a new falling rate of profit mechanism. All of these theories are based on one or more of "the historical tendencies": a rising capital-wage bill ratio, a rising capitalist share and a falling rate of profit. The model is a foundation in the sense that it generates these tendencies in the context of a model with a constant subsistence wage. The newly discovered generating mechanism is based on neo-classical reasoning for a model with land. It is non-Ricardian in that land augmenting technical progress can be unboundedly rapid. Finally, since the model has no steady state, it is necessary to use a new technique, Chaplygin's method, to prove the result.

El modelo agrario argentino actual se basa en el monocultivo de la soja para la exportación. Este cultivo aumentó de forma masiva a partir de la entrada de la soja transgénica resistente al herbicida glifosato, en los 90. Los plaguicidas han representado el gran sostén del crecimiento de la producción agropecuaria argentina. Debido al uso creciente que están teniendo y a la proximidad de los cultivos a los pueblos, los habitantes empiezan a percibir las prácticas de manejo y aplicación de plaguicidas como un riesgo para su salud y el medio ambiente de la zona. El clima de incertidumbre acerca de los impactos de los agroquímicos se percibe en las áreas productoras de soja, convirtiéndose en un conflicto entre expertos y población local. Con el estudio de este riesgo, del modo en que es percibido por la población y de los factores que causan dicha percepción, se ha observado que los problemas que generan la elevada percepción son principalmente las malas prácticas en la aplicación de los agroquímicos, la ausencia de regulación del organismo de control y la incertidumbre sobre los efectos que dichos productos pueden causar.

Informe de investigación elaborado a partir de una estancia en el Laboratorio de Diseño Computacional en Aeroespacial en el Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Estados Unidos, entre noviembre de 2006 y agosto de 2007. La aerodinámica es una rama de la dinámica de fluidos referida al estudio de los movimientos de los líquidos o gases, cuya meta principal es predecir las fuerzas aerodinámicas en un avión o cualquier tipo de vehículo, incluyendo los automóviles. Las ecuaciones de Navier-Stokes representan un estado dinámico del equilibrio de las fuerzas que actúan en cualquier región dada del fluido. Son uno de los sistemas de ecuaciones más útiles porque describen la física de una gran cantidad de fenómenos como corrientes del océano, flujos alrededor de una superficie de sustentación, etc. En el contexto de una tesis doctoral, se está estudiando un flujo viscoso e incompresible, solucionando las ecuaciones de Navier- Stokes incompresibles de una manera eficiente. Durante la estancia en el MIT, se ha utilizado un método de Galerkin discontinuo para solucionar las ecuaciones de Navier-Stokes incompresibles usando, o bien un parámetro de penalti para asegurar la continuidad de los flujos entre elementos, o bien un método de Galerkin discontinuo compacto. Ambos métodos han dado buenos resultados y varios ejemplos numéricos se han simulado para validar el buen comportamiento de los métodos desarrollados. También se han estudiado elementos particulares, los elementos de Raviart y Thomas, que se podrían utilizar en una formulación mixta para obtener un algoritmo eficiente para solucionar problemas numéricos complejos.

This paper examines the impact of urban sprawl, a phenomenon of particular interest in Spain, which is currently experiencing this process of rapid, low-density urban expansion. Many adverse consequences are attributed to urban sprawl (e.g., traffic congestion, air pollution and social segregation), though here we are concerned primarily with the rising costs of providing local public services. Our initial aim is to develop an accurate measure of urban sprawl so that we might empirically test its impact on municipal budgets. Then, we undertake an empirical analysis using a cross-sectional data set of 2,500 Spanish municipalities for the year 2003 and a piecewise linear function to account for the potentially nonlinear relationship between sprawl and local costs. The estimations derived from the expenditure equations for both aggregate and six disaggregated spending categories indicate that low-density development patterns lead to greater provision costs of local public services.

El entorno aéreo es, a día de hoy, uno de los escenarios más complicados a la hora de establecer enlaces de comunicación fiables. Esto es debido, principalmente, a las altas velocidades a las que circulan los aviones, que propician una gran degradación del rendimiento des sistema si no se estima de forma continua el canal. Además el entorno aéreo es susceptible a sufrir muchos otros efectos que provocan la degradación de la señal, como la difracción, la reflexión, etc. Por este motivo en este proyecto se hace un estudio de dos escenarios típicos de vuelo: arrival (aterrizaje) y on route (vuelo en ruta). En el escenario on route los aviones circulan a más de el doble de velocidad que en el escenario arrival, de esta manera se podrá ver el efecto de sufrir un doppler mayor. Para realizar el estudio se utiliza un sistema multiportadora con solapamiento de subcanales, OFDM, y se toman inicialmente parámetros típicos de la tecnología WiMAX, que se variarán con el objetivo de mejorar el rendimiento del sistema.

Hub congestion is a major problem and a relevant policy issue because it causes delays and many organizational problems at airports that end up implying unpleasant consequences both for air travelers and airlines. In a competitive framework in which carriers choose aircraft size, this paper suggests that airlines schedule too many flights using overly small aircraft, which constitutes a major contributor to congestion. Two- part congestion tolls, accounting for the congestion imposed on other carriers and the congestion imposed on all passengers, are needed to recover e¢ ciency. Finally, we analyze the validity of the results by studying the effects of network size, airport capacity, competition in layover time, and the formation of airline alliances. L’accent nuclear ascendent-descendent de les oracions expressant desacord en occità consta de tres tons: LH+L*. En comptes de precedir el to asterisc (“starred tone”) a un interval fix en temps normalitzat (Pierrehumbert & Beckman 1989), els tons menadors (“leading tones”) L i H s’alineen amb determinats punts d’ancoratge de la cadena de segments: les fronteres dreta i esquerra de la síl•laba pretònica, respectivament. El model de Grice (1995b) per a l’estructura dels accents tonals permet donar compte d’aquest patró d’alineació incloent els tons menadors en un node diferent que precedeix el que domina to seguidor (“trailing tone”) i to asterisc.

Network airlines have been increasingly focusing their operations on hub airports through the exploitation of connecting traffic, allowing them to take advantage of economies of traffic density, which are unequivocal in the airline industry. Less attention has been devoted to airlines? decisions on point-to-point thin routes, which could be served using different aircraft technologies and different business models. This paper examines, both theoretically and empirically, the impact on airlines ?networks of the two major innovations in the airline industry in the last two decades: the regional jet technology and the low-cost business model. We show that, under certain circumstances, direct services on point-to-point thin routes can be viable and thus airlines may be interested in deviating passengers out of the hub.
