El cine entre la inmediatez y la memoria: los motivos de la naturaleza muerta y de la ruina a partir de Still Life (2006) de Jia Zhang Ke

Este trabajo de investigación plantea un estudio sobre los motivos de la naturalezamuerta y de la ruina en el cine a partir de la película de Jia Zhang Ke titulada Still Life (2006). Se propone establecer una continuidad con la modernidad a través de ambos motivos y llevar a cabo una relectura de los mismos desde un análisis hermeneútico que parte de la tradición pictórica y pone en diálogo la cinematografía de otros cineastas como Roberto Rossellini, Yasujiro Ozu, Robert Bresson, Abbas Kiarostami, entre otros, para reflexionar sobre la práctica cinematográfica entre la inmediatez y la memoria.

Fonaments per a una pedagogia de la lectura en l'obra de Marc-Alain Ouaknin: 1991-2000

L'objectiu és revelar la potència pedagògica de l'obra d'Ouaknin (segle XX): 1991-2000. En conseqüència, la hipòtesi conjectura que un seguiment atent dels textos ouakninians pot derivar vers una pedagogia lectora. El mètode, conreat per la filosofia i adient al fenomen lector, és l'hermenèutica de Gadamer. Bàsicament, tres autories influencien el nostre rabí quant a lectura: Arendt (acció), Ricoeur (triple mimesi) i Levinas (fecunditat). Aquesta pedagogia lectora, espaciotemporalitat que facilita una antropologia on l'humà avé qüestionament (quoibilité), situa les modalitats lectores (intencional i vivencial), vehicula els protagonistes (deixeble, mestre i text) i mostra els moviments concomitants (carícia, bibliofarmacologia i ètica)

Firm dynamics support the importance of the embodied question

This paper contributes to the literature on both embodied technical progress and firm dynamics, by formulating an endogenous growth model where selection and imitation play a fundamental role in helping capital good producers to learn about the productivity of technologies embodied in new plants. By calibrating the model to some key aggregates particularly relevant for the embodied capital literature, among them the growth rate of the relative investment price, the model quantitatively replicates the main facts associated to firm dynamics, such as the entry rate and the tail index of the establishment size distribution. In line with the previous literature, it also predicts a contribution to productivity growth of embodied technical progress and selection of around 60%

Spaces with Noetherian cohomology

Is the cohomology of the classifying space of a p-compact group, with Noetherian twisted coefficients, a Noetherian module? This note provides, over the ring of p-adic integers, such a generalization to p-compact groups of the Evens-Venkov Theorem. We consider the cohomology of a space with coefficients in a module, and we compare Noetherianity over the field with p elements, with Noetherianity over the p-adic integers, in the case when the fundamental group is a finite p-group.

Open minded and open access: introducing NeoBiota, a new peer-reviewed journal of biological invasions

The Editorial presents the focus, scope, policies, and the inaugural issue of NeoBiota, a new open access peer-reviewed journal of biological invasions. The new journal NeoBiota is a continuation of the former NEOBIOTA publication series. The journal will deal with all aspects of invasion biology and impose no restrictions on manuscript size neither on use of color. NeoBiota implies an XML-based editorial workflow and several cutting-edge innovations in publishing and dissemination, such as semantic markup of and enhancements to published texts, data publication, and extensive cross-linking within the journal and to external sources

A short motif in Drosophila SECIS Binding Protein 2 provides differential binding affinity to SECIS RNA hairpins

Selenoproteins contain the amino acid selenocysteine which is encoded by a UGA Sec codon. Recoding UGA Sec requires a complex mechanism, comprising the cis-acting SECIS RNA hairpin in the 3′UTR of selenoprotein mRNAs, and trans-acting factors. Among these, the SECIS Binding Protein 2 (SBP2) is central to the mechanism. SBP2 has been so far functionally characterized only in rats and humans. In this work, we report the characterization of the Drosophila melanogaster SBP2 (dSBP2). Despite its shorter length, it retained the same selenoprotein synthesis-promoting capabilities as the mammalian counterpart. However, a major difference resides in the SECIS recognition pattern: while human SBP2 (hSBP2) binds the distinct form 1 and 2 SECIS RNAs with similar affinities, dSBP2 exhibits high affinity toward form 2 only. In addition, we report the identification of a K (lysine)-rich domain in all SBP2s, essential for SECIS and 60S ribosomal subunit binding, differing from the well-characterized L7Ae RNA-binding domain. Swapping only five amino acids between dSBP2 and hSBP2 in the K-rich domain conferred reversed SECIS-binding properties to the proteins, thus unveiling an important sequence for form 1 binding.

Has the Euro-Mediterranean partnership affected Mediterranean business cycles?

We date turning points of the reference cycle for 19 Mediterranean countries andanalyze their structure and interdependences. Fluctuations are volatile and not highlycorrelated across countries; recessions are deep but asynchronous making average outputlosses in the area limited. Heterogeneities across countries and regions are substantial.Mediterranean cycles are time varying but their evolution is not linked withthe Euro-Mediterranean partnership process. The concordance of cyclical fluctuationsis poorly related to trade and financial linkages and to their evolution over time.

New measurements of radial velocities in clusters of galaxies

Redshifts for 100 galaxies in 10 clusters of galaxies are presented based on data obtained between March 1984 and March 1985 from Calar Alto, La Palma, and ESO, and on data from Mauna Kea. Data for individual galaxies are given, and the accuracy of the velocities of the four instruments is discussed. Comparison with published data shows the present velocities to be shifted by + 4.0 km/s on average, with a standard deviation in the difference of 89.7 km/s, consistent with the rms of redshift measurements which range from 50-100 km/s.

Two component Emden sphere

The theory of a self-gravitating gas sphere is given. The gravitational field is generated by two components, each of which is an independent isothermal gas. Various quantities of interest, such as density profiles, core radii of both components, masses, free-free luminosity, surface brightness, central surface density, and overestimate of central mass density, are given for different values of both parameters which arise naturally (ratio of central densities, ratio of rms velocities). Fundamental changes appear when comparison is made with a theory in which the second component is a 'test component'. Procedures are given for the complete analysis of real astrophysical configurations such as clusters of galaxies or globular clusters.

Influence of average size and interface passivation on the spectral emission of Si nanocrystals embedded in SiO2

The correlation between the structural (average size and density) and optoelectronic properties [band gap and photoluminescence (PL)] of Si nanocrystals embedded in SiO2 is among the essential factors in understanding their emission mechanism. This correlation has been difficult to establish in the past due to the lack of reliable methods for measuring the size distribution of nanocrystals from electron microscopy, mainly because of the insufficient contrast between Si and SiO2. With this aim, we have recently developed a successful method for imaging Si nanocrystals in SiO2 matrices. This is done by using high-resolution electron microscopy in conjunction with conventional electron microscopy in dark field conditions. Then, by varying the time of annealing in a large time scale we have been able to track the nucleation, pure growth, and ripening stages of the nanocrystal population. The nucleation and pure growth stages are almost completed after a few minutes of annealing time at 1100°C in N2 and afterward the ensemble undergoes an asymptotic ripening process. In contrast, the PL intensity steadily increases and reaches saturation after 3-4 h of annealing at 1100°C. Forming gas postannealing considerably enhances the PL intensity but only for samples annealed previously in less time than that needed for PL saturation. The effects of forming gas are reversible and do not modify the spectral shape of the PL emission. The PL intensity shows at all times an inverse correlation with the amount of Pb paramagnetic centers at the Si-SiO2 nanocrystal-matrix interfaces, which have been measured by electron spin resonance. Consequently, the Pb centers or other centers associated with them are interfacial nonradiative channels for recombination and the emission yield largely depends on the interface passivation. We have correlated as well the average size of the nanocrystals with their optical band gap and PL emission energy. The band gap and emission energy shift to the blue as the nanocrystal size shrinks, in agreement with models based on quantum confinement. As a main result, we have found that the Stokes shift is independent of the average size of nanocrystals and has a constant value of 0.26±0.03 eV, which is almost twice the energy of the Si¿O vibration. This finding suggests that among the possible channels for radiative recombination, the dominant one for Si nanocrystals embedded in SiO2 is a fundamental transition spatially located at the Si¿SiO2 interface with the assistance of a local Si-O vibration.

The role of dynamical polarization of the ligand-to-metal charge transfer excitations in the ab initio determination of effective exchange parameters

The role of the bridging ligand on the effective Heisenberg coupling parameters is analyzed in detail. This analysis strongly suggests that the ligand-to-metal charge transfer excitations are responsible for a large part of the final value of the magnetic coupling constant. This permits us to suggest a variant of the difference dedicated configuration interaction (DDCI) method, presently one of the most accurate and reliable for the evaluation of magnetic effective interactions. This method treats the bridging ligand orbitals mediating the interaction at the same level than the magnetic orbitals and preserves the high quality of the DDCI results while being much less computationally demanding. The numerical accuracy of the new approach is illustrated on various systems with one or two magnetic electrons per magnetic center. The fact that accurate results can be obtained using a rather reduced configuration interaction space opens the possibility to study more complex systems with many magnetic centers and/or many electrons per center.

Los hombres nuevos. Un paralelismo entre la filosofía de la liberación y la Junta de Coordinación Revolucionaria en las décadas de 1960 y 1970

La segunda mitad del siglo XX fue testigo de una crisis intelectual originada comoconsecuencia de una situación política y económica también crítica, en un contexto detensión internacional orquestado por la Guerra Fría. Los intelectuales, que comprendíansu situación histórica como una llamada ética a la responsabilidad, mantuvieron ciertasdudas ante su compromiso político y, aún más, revolucionario. Esto se dio de modomanifiesto en América Latina en torno a las décadas de 1960 y 1970, donde sedesarrollaron, paralelamente, una corriente filosófica con pretensiones de liberación queera fruto de la preocupación por la autenticidad latinoamericana y un movimientogeneralizado de lucha armada protagonizado por diversas organizaciones guerrilleras.

Lyotard y La condició postmoderna, Vint-i-cinc anys després

L"any 1979 Jean-François Lyotard (1924-1998) publicava a París La condition postmoderne. Rapport sur le savoir, editat per Les Éditions de Minuit, obra en què es retratava l"home postmodern i que amb el pas dels anys s"ha convertit en una mena de clàssic del pensament contemporani. La tesi de fons del llibre -una obra encarregada per les autoritats del Quebec- és ben coneguda: el saber canvia d"estatut al mateix temps que les societats entren en l"era anomenada postindustrial, segons havien anunciat Daniel Bell i Alain Touraine. Per tant, la qüestió del saber en aquesta època postindustrial -que a grans trets coincideix amb un esperit d"època (Zeitgeist) que es pot identifi car amb la postmodernitat- cal situar-la en la perspectiva de les societats industrials avançades.
