L’obra del poeta LluÃs Icard és prou coneguda. La va estudiar i editar Joaquim Molas (1962, 1984), Giuseppe Tavani (1988) n’analitzà la versificació, i la seva lÃrica ha tingut un cert relleu perquè fou un dels poetes que adreçaren versos a la reina viuda Margarida de Prades. En la seva producció també destaca una llarga Consolació amorosa, el primer text literari català que es fa ressò de la teoria mèdica de l’amor hereos tal com es va aplicar a la poesia cortesana (Cabré 2002). En aquest article voldrÃem proposar en primer lloc una nova identificació del poeta, fins ara incerta: es tractaria de LluÃs Icard, donzell, documentat com a batxiller en dret des de 1423 i mort a començament de novembre de 1429. També voldrÃem resituar les seves cobles (i les d’altres poetes coetanis) per a la reina Margarida, i provar que la 'reina regnant' esmentada a la Consolació és Maria de Castella. Finalment, apuntem altres indicis per a la valoració històrica de la poesia d’Icard

L'impuls de l'activitat investigadora caracteritza actualment la major part de les polÃtiques educatives, i és una realitat inquestionable que augmenta les exigències institucionals relatives a la producció cientÃfica en un panorama cada vegada més internacionalitzat. El saber es difon mitjançant circuits cada vegada més ramificats i fluids, alhora que s'accedeix a un volum creixent de producció cientÃfica amb una facilitat impensable fa una década, pero també és un fet que es posen més en evidéncia els desfasaments entre ambits cientÃfics, entre famÃlies d'una determinada comunitat cientÃfica, entre perspectives agresolades i novedoses del coneixement, entre cosmovisions localistes i d'ampli calat, entre tecnologies transferibles i reflexions epistemologiques ... i podrÃem seguir mencionant una Ilarga sé-rie de contradiccions que impregnen la nostra realitat diaria. En definitiva, si bé és cert que es tracta de popularitzar l'activitat investigadora, també ho és que es multipliquen determinades barreres que amb més o menys subtilesa s'han d'esquivar perqué la investigació i els seus resultats siguin una realitat tangible.

1. The effects of "cafeteria feeding" on primiparous Wistar rats during lactation have been studied by measuring circulating levels of glucose, amino acids, lactate, urea and ammonia as well as glycogen levels in liver and muscle. 2. No significant changes in glucose levels were observed despite alterations in blood glucose compartmentation. 3. Compared with controls, the dams given the cafeteria diet had higher liver glycogen stores which were more easily mobilized at the peak of lactation. 4. Rats given the cafeteria diet showed a lower amino acid utilization than controls and adequately maintained circulating levels, as determined by the lower circulating levels of ammonia and urea. 5. No significant differences in body-weight were observed in the period studied despite increasing dam weight after weaning in the cafeteria-fed group. 6. The size of pups of cafeteria-fed dams was greater than that of controls, and the differences were marked after weaning, when the metabolic machinery of the cafeteria pup maintained high protein accretion and body build-up using fat as the main energy substrate characteristic of the preweaning stage. The controls, however, changed to greater utilization of amino acids as an energy substrate and adapted to high-protein (lowbiological-quality) diets with a significantly different pattern of circulating nitrogen distribution.

The idea that bacteriophage transduction plays a role in the horizontal transfer of antibiotic resistance genes is gaining momentum. Such transduction might be vital in horizontal transfer from environmental to human bodyassociated biomes and here we review many lines of evidence supporting this notion. It is well accepted that bacteriophages are the most abundant entities in most environments, where they have been shown to be quite persistent. This fact, together with the ability of many phages to infect bacteria belonging to different taxa, makes them suitable vehicles for gene transfer. Metagenomic studies confirm that substantial percentages of the bacteriophage particles present in most environments contain bacterial genes, including mobile genetic elements and antibiotic resistance genes. When specific genes of resistance to antibiotics are detected by real-time PCR in the bacteriophage populations of different environments, only tenfold lower numbers of these genes are observed, compared with those found in the corresponding bacterial populations. In addition, the antibiotic resistance genes from these bacteriophages are functional and generate resistance to the bacteria when these genes are transfected. Finally, reports about the transduction of antibiotic resistance genes are on the increase.

El artÃculo analiza la intensidad comercial de los sectores industriales catalanes durante el periodo 1987-2001 en relación a los dos principales mercados de destino: el resto de España y la UE, con la finalidad de determinar sus capacidades y potencialidades. El estudio ha detectado, en primer lugar, que dicha intensidad aún sien- do superior con el resto de España se ha intensificado en mayor medida con los paÃses de la UE. En segundo lugar, que el principal factor explicativo no es la existencia de una complementariedad entre la demanda de importaciones de estos territorios y la oferta de exportaciones catalanas, sino la existencia de elementos ligados con la proximidad geográfica y/o cultural, lo cual muestra que, en conjunto, la industria catalana sigue refugiándose en estos mercados. A nivel sectorial, los sectores que han aplicado la estrategia de incrementar la complementariedad comercial son los que muestran mayores potencialidades para ampliar su cuota de mercado.

Yeast cells contain a family of three monothiol glutaredoxins: Grx3, 4, and 5. Absence of Grx5 leads to constitutive oxidative damage, exacerbating that caused by external oxidants. Phenotypic defects associated with the absence of Grx5 are suppressed by overexpression ofSSQ1 and ISA2, two genes involved in the synthesis and assembly of iron/sulfur clusters into proteins. Grx5 localizes at the mitochondrial matrix, like other proteins involved in the synthesis of these clusters, and the mature form lacks the first 29 amino acids of the translation product. Absence of Grx5 causes: 1) iron accumulation in the cell, which in turn could promote oxidative damage, and 2) inactivation of enzymes requiring iron/sulfur clusters for their activity. Reduction of iron levels in grx5 null mutants does not restore the activity of iron/sulfur enzymes, and cell growth defects are not suppressed in anaerobiosis or in the presence of disulfide reductants. Hence, Grx5 forms part of the mitochondrial machinery involved in the synthesis and assembly of iron/sulfur centers.

Possibilistic Defeasible Logic Programming (P-DeLP) is a logic programming language which combines features from argumentation theory and logic programming, incorporating the treatment of possibilistic uncertainty at the object-language level. In spite of its expressive power, an important limitation in P-DeLP is that imprecise, fuzzy information cannot be expressed in the object language. One interesting alternative for solving this limitation is the use of PGL+, a possibilistic logic over Gödel logic extended with fuzzy constants. Fuzzy constants in PGL+ allow expressing disjunctive information about the unknown value of a variable, in the sense of a magnitude, modelled as a (unary) predicate. The aim of this article is twofold: firstly, we formalize DePGL+, a possibilistic defeasible logic programming language that extends P-DeLP through the use of PGL+ in order to incorporate fuzzy constants and a fuzzy unification mechanism for them. Secondly, we propose a way to handle conflicting arguments in the context of the extended framework.

In the last decade defeasible argumentation frameworks have evolved to become a sound setting to formalize commonsense, qualitative reasoning. The logic programming paradigm has shown to be particularly useful for developing different argument-based frameworks on the basis of different variants of logic programming which incorporate defeasible rules. Most of such frameworks, however, are unable to deal with explicit uncertainty, nor with vague knowledge, as defeasibility is directly encoded in the object language. This paper presents Possibilistic Logic Programming (P-DeLP), a new logic programming language which combines features from argumentation theory and logic programming, incorporating as well the treatment of possibilistic uncertainty. Such features are formalized on the basis of PGL, a possibilistic logic based on G¨odel fuzzy logic. One of the applications of P-DeLP is providing an intelligent agent with non-monotonic, argumentative inference capabilities. In this paper we also provide a better understanding of such capabilities by defining two non-monotonic operators which model the expansion of a given program P by adding new weighed facts associated with argument conclusions and warranted literals, respectively. Different logical properties for the proposed operators are studied

Background: Non-adherence to antidepressants generates higher costs for the treatment of depression. Little is known about the cost-effectiveness of pharmacist's interventions aimed at improving adherence to antidepressants. The study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a community pharmacist intervention in comparison with usual care in depressed patients initiating treatment with antidepressants in primary care. Methods: Patients were recruited by general practitioners and randomized to community pharmacist intervention (87) that received an educational intervention and usual care (92). Adherence to antidepressants, clinical symptoms, Quality-Adjusted Life-Years (QALYs), use of healthcare services and productivity losses were measured at baseline, 3 and 6 months. Results: There were no significant differences between groups in costs or effects. From a societal perspective, the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) for the community pharmacist intervention compared with usual care was 1,866 for extra adherent patient and 9,872 per extra QALY. In terms of remission of depressive symptoms, the usual care dominated the community pharmacist intervention. If willingness to pay (WTP) is 30,000 per extra adherent patient, remission of symptoms or QALYs, the probability of the community pharmacist intervention being cost-effective was 0.71, 0.46 and 0.75, respectively (societal perspective). From a healthcare perspective, the probability of the community pharmacist intervention being cost-effective in terms of adherence, QALYs and remission was of 0.71, 0.76 and 0.46, respectively, if WTP is 30,000. Conclusion: A brief community pharmacist intervention addressed to depressed patients initiating antidepressant treatment showed a probability of being cost-effective of 0.71 and 0.75 in terms of improvement of adherence and QALYs, respectively, when compared to usual care. Regular implementation of the community pharmacist intervention is not recommended.

Treball de recerca realitzat per un alumne d’ensenyament secundari i guardonat amb un Premi CIRIT per fomentar l'esperit cientÃfic del Jovent l’any 2008. Teresa Corominas Badia fou una dona de classe popular que visquè cinc generacions enrere, entre 1867 i 1940. L’hipòtesi de treball ha estat demostrar si és possible o no dur a terme una reconstrucció biogrà fica d’una persona d’aquestes caracterÃstiques. La finalitat era establir una sèrie de limitacions a l’hora de realitzar qualsevol recerca històrica d’aquest tipus. S’ha investigat en arxius civils i eclesià stics per aconseguir esbrinar dates clau de la seva vida. D’altra banda, s’ha recollit el mà xim d’informació de les persones que la van conèixer, bona part de carà cter anecdòtic. Després d’haver reconstruït la biografia del subjecte d’estudi amb la mà xima fidelitat que ha estat possible, s’han establert els factors limitants de la recerca. Aquestes limitacions són: de memòria oral, de les fonts documentals, de coneixement de les fonts de recerca, les pròpies del subjecte estudiat, i dels mitjans del cos investigador.

A partir d'un plantejament inicial de la metodologÃa de les "històries de vida", s'analitza la vida de MarÃa Teresa codina des d'una perspectiva biobibliogrà fica. Com s'intenta demostrar, la seva trajectoria professional en el món de l'educació l'ha portat a jugar un paper important en la renovació pedagògica a Catalunya a partir dels anys cincuanta. Entre d'altres aportacions, ha fundat l'escola Talitha, l'escola de Mestres Rosa Sensat (junt a altres persones), varies institucions educatives al barri de Can Tunis de Barcelona, etc., sempre a partir d'un compromÃs vital en l'educació.

Maria Teresa Codina i Mir és una mestra i pedagoga que ha tingut especial rellevà ncia en la pedagogia del segle XX a Catalunya. Durant la seva trajectòria personal i professional ha estat compromesa en l’educació dels sectors socials més desfavorits i en la renovació pedagògica de Catalunya. Aquesta tasca tan important que ha dut a terme de manera silenciosa, no pot ser ignorada. Amb aquest treball pretenem analitzar-la i donar-la a conèixer. És per aquest motiu que hem fet una aproximació biogrà fica de la vida i idees pedagògiques de Maria Teresa Codina a partir de la veu de persones que l’han coneguda i que han estat significatives en la seva vida. A través de successives entrevistes i l’anà lisi de documents personals i inèdits de Codina, volem aprofundir en la seva trajectòria personal i professional i conèixer les seves idees educatives des d’una visió més propera, viva i humana.
