In networks with small buffers, such as optical packet switching based networks, the convolution approach is presented as one of the most accurate method used for the connection admission control. Admission control and resource management have been addressed in other works oriented to bursty traffic and ATM. This paper focuses on heterogeneous traffic in OPS based networks. Using heterogeneous traffic and bufferless networks the enhanced convolution approach is a good solution. However, both methods (CA and ECA) present a high computational cost for high number of connections. Two new mechanisms (UMCA and ISCA) based on Monte Carlo method are proposed to overcome this drawback. Simulation results show that our proposals achieve lower computational cost compared to enhanced convolution approach with an small stochastic error in the probability estimation

This paper focuses on one of the methods for bandwidth allocation in an ATM network: the convolution approach. The convolution approach permits an accurate study of the system load in statistical terms by accumulated calculations, since probabilistic results of the bandwidth allocation can be obtained. Nevertheless, the convolution approach has a high cost in terms of calculation and storage requirements. This aspect makes real-time calculations difficult, so many authors do not consider this approach. With the aim of reducing the cost we propose to use the multinomial distribution function: the enhanced convolution approach (ECA). This permits direct computation of the associated probabilities of the instantaneous bandwidth requirements and makes a simple deconvolution process possible. Pregunta de revisión: ¿Son más eficientes las diferentes duraciones del tratamiento y de frecuencia de la terapia de movimiento inducido por restricción (TIMR) en los resultados de la actividad y de participación en los pacientes con accidente cerebrovascular crónico? Objetivo: Examinar el efecto de diferentes duraciones de tratamiento de la TIMR y la terapia de movimiento inducido por restricción modificada (TIMRm) sobre la actividad y la participación de los pacientes con accidente cerebrovascular crónico. Metodología: Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en MEDLINE, CINAHL, OTSeeker, Scopus, Cochrane plus, La Biblioteca Cohrane y por búsqueda manual. Los criterios de inclusión fueron: ensayos controlados aleatorios (ECA) o cuasi-ECA con participantes de más de 18 años, accidente cerebrovascular crónico y TIMR o TIMRm en comparación con otras intervenciones. Resultados: La búsqueda final resultó en 10 ECA publicados entre 2003 y 2013. La calidad de los estudios varió en la puntuación (6-9) según la escala de PEDro. La práctica de la TIMR de 50-60 horas durante 2 semanas produjo una mejor movilidad, con evidencia moderada-alta, en comparación al tratamiento control. La TIMR durante 30 horas en tres semanas, 90 horas durante tres semanas y 15-30 horas durante 10 semanas mejora la movilidad de la extremidad superior afectada. Conclusión: La TIMR durante 30 horas en tres semanas demostró ser eficaz y eficiente en la movilidad de la mano afectada, pero se necesitan más estudios para conocer los protocolos de tratamiento óptimas para la TIMR.

Introducción: La determinación del volumen gástrico residual es una práctica frecuente en pacientes críticos, pero hay falta de consenso acerca de la conveniencia de reintroducir o desechar el contenido gástrico aspirado (CGA). Objetivo: Determinar el grado de evidencia científica acerca de la eficacia de 2 intervenciones-reintroducción/rechazo- del CGA en pacientes críticos. Material y métodos: Revisión sistemática de la evidencia disponible acerca de la conveniencia de reintroducir o desechar el CGA. Proceso: a) establecimiento de los criterios de inclusión/exclusión; b) determinación de la estrategia de búsqueda (palabras clave e itinerarios); c) vaciado de las bases de datos: MEDLINE, CINAHL, CUIDEN, IME, SCIELO y COCHRANE. Búsqueda por método indirecto y vaciado manual de índices; d) lectura crítica independiente y contrastada, utilizando la plantilla CASPe, y e) contraste de resultados del análisis crítico. Resultados: Los itinerarios de búsqueda generan más de 800 referencias que, una vez depuradas, permiten seleccionar 54. Después de su lectura, sólo 4 se centran realmente en cuestiones relacionadas con la reintroducción/rechazo del CGA: 2 revisiones, un estudio observacional y un ECA de muestra pequeña. La heterogeneidad de estos estudios no permite emplear técnicas de metaanálisis. Por ello se analizan por separado los resultados de cada estudio. Mediante este proceso se obtiene un resultado final que demuestra un bajo grado de evidencia científica. Conclusiones: Hay escasa evidencia científica acerca de la conveniencia, la seguridad y los beneficios de ambas intervenciones. Es difícil establecer un protocolo de cuidados, por lo que se planteó realizar un estudio experimental para establecer las indicaciones y contraindicaciones de ambas intervenciones.

In the last years, an increase of the interest to develop educational practices in higher education, based on the approach of the reflective learning, is observed. Nevertheless, we scarcely find in our context researches or experiences that allow knowing students’ perceptions about this teaching and learning approach. We have developed an experience in the bachelor of Social Education at the University of Girona with the aim to contribute to the personal and professional development of future social educators in their initial training, using reflective learning methodology. In this article we present an evaluation of the experience based on students’ perceptions. They assessed the usefulness they think the module has for their training, the methodology and the activities. This evaluation has been carried out through in-depth interviews to 17 students who participated in the module in 2010-11 academic year. The results show that students assess positively the experience, either its general usefulness or the methodology of reflective learning, although they acknowledge some difficulties to carry out such a process which involves a high degree of introspection and a difficulty to set the boundaries in the narration of personal questions. The study also shows some challenges related on the need, but also the difficulty, to include personal and professional development as a powerful axis in the higher education curriculum, as well as elements linked to reflective learning assessment

Supported Employment (SE) is a clear alternative to the work inclusion of people with severe mental disorder (SMD). This article has two purposes: first, to show the possibilities of application of the SE with people with SMD, secondly, to establish the main lines that are configured as elements favoring the inclusion processes of this group work by SE. A piece of research has been carried out based on interviews of professionals with experience in supporting the work inclusion of people with SMD, focusing on the key factors that these professionals perceive as key elements for successful work inclusion processes. The awareness of the disease by the worker with SMD, the organization of the support processes throughout the insertion process, the relationship with the company as well as with the family and the characteristics of the health network are among the factors that, according to the research results, appear to be key factors for successful and less successful work inclusion processes. The information obtained provides insight into how people with SMD develop work inclusion processes with supported employment and help us to suggest some strategies to improve these processes
