A method for extracting semantic information from on-line art music discussion forums

In this paper a method for extracting semantic informationfrom online music discussion forums is proposed. The semantic relations are inferred from the co-occurrence of musical concepts in forum posts, using network analysis. The method starts by defining a dictionary of common music terms in an art music tradition. Then, it creates a complex network representation of the online forum by matchingsuch dictionary against the forum posts. Once the complex network is built we can study different network measures, including node relevance, node co-occurrence andterm relations via semantically connecting words. Moreover, we can detect communities of concepts inside the forum posts. The rationale is that some music terms are more related to each other than to other terms. All in all, this methodology allows us to obtain meaningful and relevantinformation from forum discussions.

La Inefabilidad de la metáfora. Breve reflexión sobre la significación metafórica en la cultura como conversación

El debate sobre qué significan las metáforas es una constante en diversas áreas del pensamiento contemporáneo. Desde los estudios literarios hasta la ciencia cognitiva o la lingüística, la metáfora se ha interpretado como una instancia del lenguaje fundamental para comprender no sólo cómo nos comunicamos, sino cómo funciona nuestra mente. Por su parte, la idea de una contingencia del lenguaje y la acción comunicativa, en la que los individuos de una comunidad lingüística sientan las bases de sudesarrollo, gana terreno para una comprensión más práctica y veraz del progreso social. Desde estos supuestos, la reflexión desarrollada en estas páginas tendrá como propósito rediscutir algunas nociones y teorías sobre la metáfora y sus relaciones con los conceptos de «verdad» y «significado», tratando deubicarla en los marcos del uso y la conversación cultural en la contingencia de nuestro lenguaje.

Anti-Hellenism and Anti-Classicism in Oscar Wilde's Works. The Second Pole of a Paradoxical Mind.

Thanks to a powerful intellectual weapon, paradox, Oscar Wilde also discovers the dark side of both Classicism and Hellenism. An accurate analysis of his works from the point of view of the Classical Tradition shows an Oscar Wilde who is quite different from the usual Philhellenic one and, above all, from the Platonic one. The aim of this article is to approach a theme which has been hardly studied by classical philologists, that is, anti-classicism and anti-hellenism as an intellectual urge.

La caverna de Josep Palau i Fabre (1952-1969): teatre versus al·legoria filosòfica per a representar i impedir el final tràgic i fosc del lluminós art de pensar.

What is the use of performing the myth of the cave from book VII of the Republic by Plato? Josep Palau i Fabre, considers that, in Plato's dialogues, the speakers are mere instruments at the service of his dialectical goal. The aim of this article is to show how, by turning the myth into a tragedy and also by relying on Heraclitus's conflict or war of opposites, the playwright succeeds in favoring a sort of thought which is not one-sided or univocal. On the contrary, in Palau i Fabre's La Caverna, the tragic hero, that is, the released prisoner transformed by the light of Reality and finally killed by his "cavemates" -after having been imprisoned again and having tried to rescue them from their ignorance or shadows-, still leaves to them his powerful experience of the agonistikos thought, which might bear fruit in their life to come.

El aprendiz de rapsoda, o de cuando Homero cruzó la laguna estigia (Lucianus, Cont. 7)

In Charon or the Inspectors we find the ferryman of the underworld on earth, talking to the god Hermes about wealth, happiness, and the vain human striving for material goods. The piece has been considered to be an example of Menippean satire inside the corpus of Lucian"s works. Homeric poetry is always in the background. Lucian uses Homeric verses, or rather, verses structured in the Homeric manner, to formulate his critical view of the mortal world; in addition, he puts these verses into the mouth of a character who must temporarily give up his job as a ferryman in order to practise the art of rhapsody. This paper analyses a textual problem: the two variants in Cont. 7 referring to Homer in the manuscript tradition. In a context in which Lucian wants to make fun not just of foolish humans but also of the Greek poet par excellence, the reading of the ueteres seems more appropriate because it illustrates better Lucian"s parodic intention in recalling Homer and in trying to adapt form and content to the Greek tradition.

Una de las principales aportaciones de la obra de Leo Strauss en la renovación de los estudios platónicos ha sido la consideración de que en los diálogos platónicos se nos enseñaría que antes que una filosofía, como objeto de reflexión específico al que una rama de la filosofía dedica su investigación, que se dedique a la ciudad y muy especialmente al régimen, se haría necesaria una filosofía destinada a entender cuál es su sitio y su papel en la ciudad, y en consecuencia, un saber que permitiera diseñar y gestionar las condiciones a través de las cuales hacer viva la filosofía en la ciudad en beneficio de las más altas finalidades de la vida política. Tomando esta observación, el artículo somete, a su vez, a reconsideración el sentido particular que tome en su estudio una de las cuestiones políticas, la educación, a partir del sentido que tomaría en aquello que la misma obra de Strauss tenga de platónica, y más concretamente, a través de las nociones de arte de escribir y educación liberal.
