Habitat et pratiques domestiques des Ve-IVe s. a.v. J.-C. dans la ville de Lattes

Les recherches menées ces dernières années sur le site de Lattes ont livré une documentation abondante sur l’architecture et l’organisation de l’espace domestique du ve s. et surtout du ive s. av. J.-C. C’est en effet durant cette période qu’a eu lieu la mise en place de la trame urbaine de la ville qui, dans ses grandes lignes, perdurera jusqu’à la fin de l’occupation protohistorique du site ; de même, c’est à ce moment qu’apparaissent des techniques de construction dont certaines sont exclusives de ces périodes, mais qui pour d’autres resteront en vigueur jusqu’à la Protohistoire récente. Cet article présente une synthèse de nos connaissances sur cette phase ancienne, en insistant sur les permanences, les modifications ou les évolutions dans l’architecture, la typologie des maisons et les pratiques domestiques au cours de ces étapes et par rapport aux étapes postérieures.

Este libro se ocupa del análisis del tráfico de libros entre Europa y Nueva España durante los años 1750-1820. Se trata de la primera síntesis sobre estos asuntos con la que contamos para este interesante periodo del trasvase cultural entre Europa y México.

Supremacía del derecho federal sobre el Common Law en materia de requisitos de seguridad y eficacia terapéutica de productos sanitarios. Comentario a Riegel v. Medtronic, Inc. [552 U.S.__ (2008); February 20, 2008]

En Riegel v. Medtronic Inc. (552 U.S.__2008; February 20, 2008), el Sr. Riegel tuvo que ser sometido a un by-pass como consecuencia de la rotura del catéter, fabricado por Medtronic, con el que su médico le practicaba una angioplastia. A pesar de que el catéter había obtenido la autorización de comercialización de la FDA y cumplía los requisitos de seguridad previstos por el sistema regulatorio federal, el Sr. Riegel y su mujer interpusieron una acción de daños contra Medtronic –y no contra el médico- conforme a las reglas de responsabilidad civil objetiva y por negligencia del Common Law neoyorquino. Sin embargo, el Tribunal Supremo federal de los EE.UU., en ponencia del Magistrado Antonin Gregory Scalia, votó, por mayoría de ocho magistrados, rechazar el recurso de la Sra. Riegel y confirmar la sentencia de segunda instancia, desestimatoria de la demanda, porque consideró que la regla de primacía del derecho regulatorio federal sobre seguridad de productos sanitarios [Medical Device Amendments de 1976, 21 U.S.C. Artículo 360k(a)] excluye la aplicabilidad no sólo del derecho regulatorio estatal sobre seguridad de productos sanitarios, sino también del Common Law sobre responsabilidad civil del fabricante.

Generalization of Vélu’s formulae for isogenies between elliptic curves

Given an elliptic curve E and a finite subgroup G, V ́lu’s formulae concern to a separable isogeny IG : E → E ′ with kernel G. In particular, for a point P ∈ E these formulae express the first elementary symmetric polynomial on the abscissas of the points in the set P + G as the difference between the abscissa of IG (P ) and the first elementary symmetric polynomial on the abscissas of the nontrivial points of the kernel G. On the other hand, they express Weierstraß coefficients of E ′ as polynomials in the coefficients of E and two additional parameters: w0 = t and w1 = w. We generalize this by defining parameters wn for all n ≥ 0 and giving analogous formulae for all the elementary symmetric polynomials and the power sums on the abscissas of the points in P +G. Simultaneously, we obtain an efficient way of performing computations concerning the isogeny when G is a rational group.

La opinión pública catalana ante la coalición parlamentaria entre PSOE y CiU en la V legislatura de las Cortes Generales (1993-1996)

En el presente artículo se analiza la percepción de la coalición parlamentaria entre el PSOE y CiU en la opinión pública catalana. El análisis utiliza una serie de variables explicativas de carácter eminentemente político, como son la identificación con los partidos y la autoubicación ideológica en los ejes de conflicto. Los datos ponen en evidencia que los individuos legitiman la conducta de su formación en las Cortes, bien apoyando el pacto, bien rechazándolo según si aquélla forma parte de la mayoría parlamentaria o de la oposición. Sin embargo, al considerar sólo las posiciones en los ejes izquierda-derecha y nacionalista se observan los matices. El sentimiento nacional es el elemento que decanta la valoración sobre el acuerdo: positivamente si se parte de una postura catalanista, pero negativamente si se trata de una españolista. La influencia de una formación de ámbito no estatal en la gobernabilidad española es el factor que provoca mayor división de actitudes.

Pointwise estimates for the Bergman kernel of the weighted Fock space

We prove upper pointwise estimates for the Bergman kernel of the weighted Fock space of entire functions in $L^{2}(e^{-2\phi}) $ where $\phi$ is a subharmonic function with $\Delta\phi$ a doubling measure. We derive estimates for the canonical solution operator to the inhomogeneous Cauchy-Riemann equation and we characterize the compactness of this operator in terms of $\Delta\phi$.

Kernel-PCA data integration with enhanced interpretability

Background Nowadays, combining the different sources of information to improve the biological knowledge available is a challenge in bioinformatics. One of the most powerful methods for integrating heterogeneous data types are kernel-based methods. Kernel-based data integration approaches consist of two basic steps: firstly the right kernel is chosen for each data set; secondly the kernels from the different data sources are combined to give a complete representation of the available data for a given statistical task. Results We analyze the integration of data from several sources of information using kernel PCA, from the point of view of reducing dimensionality. Moreover, we improve the interpretability of kernel PCA by adding to the plot the representation of the input variables that belong to any dataset. In particular, for each input variable or linear combination of input variables, we can represent the direction of maximum growth locally, which allows us to identify those samples with higher/lower values of the variables analyzed. Conclusions The integration of different datasets and the simultaneous representation of samples and variables together give us a better understanding of biological knowledge.

Beurling-Landau densities of weighted Fekete sets and correlation kernel estimates

Let $Q$ be a suitable real function on $C$. An $n$-Fekete set corresponding to $Q$ is a subset ${Z_{n1}},\dotsb, Z_{nn}}$ of $C$ which maximizes the expression $\Pi^n_i_{verges to the equilibrium measure $\Delta Q.1 _S$d$A$ as $n \rightarrow \infty$. In this note we prove that Fekete sets are, in a sense, maximally spread out with respect to the equilibrium measure. In general, our results apply only to a part of the Fekete set, which is at a certain distance away from the boundary of the droplet. However, for the potential $Q=|Z|^2$ we obtain results which hold globally, and we conjecture that such global results are true for a wide range of potentials.

El recurso a la tiranía como respuesta a la dominación visigoda en la Tarraconense (siglos V-VI)

A finales del siglo V, la población hispanorromana contempló con disgusto el incremento de la presencia visigoda en tierras de la Tarraconense. Entre finales del siglo V e inicios del VI, dos individuos ―Burdunelo y Pedro― se alzaron con el poder de manera ilegal y acaudillaron revueltas contra el dominio visigodo. La fuente que nos informa de estos hechos, la Pseudo Chronica Caesaraugustana, es un texto altamente problemático: interpretado durante mucho tiempo como los restos de la historiola escrita por el obispo Máximo de Zaragoza (c. 599-614/620), en realidad se trata solo de unas anotaciones realizadas al margen de crónicas anteriores. Las vicisitudes de la transmisión manuscrita han provocado, además, el desplazamiento de algunas de estas anotaciones de su posición original, con lo que nos proporcionan dataciones erróneas. En este trabajo estudiamos las noticias relativas a las rebeliones de Burdunelo y de Pedro, realizamos una nueva propuesta de cronología, analizamos sus orígenes sociales y examinamos el alcance que pudieron tener estas sublevaciones en el contexto de un inminente enfrentamiento entre visigodos y francos.

Estimating extreme value cumulative distribution functions using bias-corrected kernel approaches

We propose a new kernel estimation of the cumulative distribution function based on transformation and on bias reducing techniques. We derive the optimal bandwidth that minimises the asymptotic integrated mean squared error. The simulation results show that our proposed kernel estimation improves alternative approaches when the variable has an extreme value distribution with heavy tail and the sample size is small.

Photometric and Halpha observations of LSI+61·303: detection of a 26 day V and JHK band modulation

We present new optical and infrared photometric observations and high resolution H α spectra of the periodic radio star LSI+61◦303. The optical photometric data set covers the time interval 1985-1993 and amounts to about a hundred nights. A period of ∼26 days is found in the V band. The infrared data also present evidence for a similar periodicity, but with higher amplitude of variation ((0.m 2). The spectroscopic observations include 16 intermediate and high dispersion spectra of LSI+61◦303 collected between January 1989 and February 1993. The H α emission line profile and its variations are analyzed. Several emission line parameters -- among them the H α EW and the width of the H α red hump -- change strongly at or close to radio maximum, and may exhibit periodic variability. We also observe a significant change in the peak separation. The H α profile of LSI+61◦303 does not seem peculiar for a Be star. However, several of the observed variations of the H α profile can probably be associated with the presence of the compact, secondary star.
