In this paper we examine the influence of economic factors to explain partisan support for European integration over the last three decades. We find that partisan support is larger in `poorer' countries with direct economic bene fits from EU membership. On the contrary, parties in countries aff ected by the Maastricht criteria are more Euro-sceptical. Moreover, we find weak evidence for larger partisan support in countries with more developed welfare states, and that the support for European integration fluctuates in parallel with the business cycle. Finally, our results indicate that the importance of economic factors in determining partisan support for European integration has grown in recent periods. La obtención de una visión amplia del desarrollo del fenómeno en el ámbito musical de España, atendiendo a las tendencias existentes y a qué tipo de artistas recurren a dicha práctica y el entendimiento del modelo de funcionamiento de ‘Verkami’: sus características, requisitos y los motivos de su elección frente a otras plataformas.

Debat a l'Internauta, el primer programa de ràdio del país sobre la xarxa, una col·laboració entre la UOC i Vilaweb. Fa menys d'una setmana que es va confirmar la notícia: la plataforma de comerç electrònic més potent de la xarxa, Amazon, va obrir dimecres de la setmana passada la filial ibèrica. Amazon és actualment el portal de venda en línia més important i divers, amb un catàleg de milions de llibres impresos i electrònics, a més d'un gavadal de productes com ara compactes, DVD, jocs, aparells d'electrònica de consum i, fins i tot, roba, alimentació i mobiliari. De moment, Amazon.es ha aterrat a casa nostra amb una oferta de productes físics, entre els quals hi ha cinquanta mil llibres impresos en català, però obre tantes oportunitats com interrogants. Com afectarà les llibreries convencionals? Tindran mercat ara plataformes de llibre digital més modestes? Estimularà el negoci del llibre electrònic? Facilitarà l'autoedició de llibres? Farà créixer el nombre de lectors en català? En parlem amb Enric Faura, de la plataforma Edi.cat, i amb l'expert Pep Torn, director de l'àrea de Biblioteca i Recursos Documentals de la UOC.

Despite the important benefits for firms of commercial initiatives on the Internet, e-commerce is still an emerging distribution channel, even in developed countries. Thus, more needs to be known about the mechanisms affecting its development. A large number of works have studied firms¿ e-commerce adoption from technological, intraorganizational, institutional, or other specific perspectives, but there is a need for adequately tested integrative frameworks. Hence, this work proposes and tests a model of firms¿ business-to-consumer (called B2C) e-commerce adoption that is founded on a holistic vision of the phenomenon. With this integrative approach, the authors analyze the joint influence of environmental, technological, and organizational factors; moreover, they evaluate this effect over time. Using various representative Spanish data sets covering the period 1996-2005, the findings demonstrate the suitability of the holistic framework. Likewise, some lessons are learned from the analysis of the key building blocks. In particular, the current study provides evidence for the debate about the effect of competitive pressure, since the findings show that competitive pressure disincentivizes e-commerce adoption in the long term. The results also show that the development or enrichment of the consumers¿ consumption patterns, the technological readiness of the market forces, the firm¿s global scope, and its competences in innovation continuously favor e-commerce adoption.

The social Web environment cannot be explained without taking into account the use made by consumers of the web technologies in the field of e-commerce. Starting with a systematic background of the growing body of research on marketing and consumer behaviour on the Web; this article presents a critical review of the main contributions on this theme, integrating also the research field of consumer behaviour in the social Web environment. It concludes with some managerial guidelines for successful use of the social Web in the commercial activities and in the establishment of fruitful relationships between the consumers and the brand.

We characterize market traders at two rural fairs in Puno, Peru, based on quantitative and qualitative data gathered in 2008, to gain insight into types of traders and the information needs that influence the degree to which they use mobile phones to make decisions regarding which weekly fairs to attend. Using variables such as origin, type of goods sold, means of transportation to the market, and reliance on networks, we identify traders as full-time traders, part-time traders, or subsistence traders, that is, people trading solely to survive. We find that when traders are already familiar with the technology, regularly rely on endogenous networks to make decisions, and have more to lose from failing to trade (e.g., those selling perishable goods), they are more likely to use mobile phones to decide where to sell.
