Efectes de la poda mecànica del dosser foliar i les arrels sobre la productivitat i qualitat de fruits en pomera (Malus domestica Borkh.)

Els anys 2008 i 2009 es va dur a terme un assaig en una plantació de pomera cv. Golden Smoothee® per a avaluar l’efecte de la poda mecànica del dosser foliar i la poda mecànica d’arrels sobre el rendiment de l’arbre, el pes promig del fruit i la qualitat del fruit. Els resultats confirmen que la poda mecànica del dosser foliar no redueix el rendiment de fruits de qualitat comercial i tampoc afecta la qualitat dels fruits; la poda d’arrels quan es duu a terme durant l’hivern tampoc suposa cap reducció de rendiment ni de qualitat dels fruits de pomera.

Assaig d’aclarida química, a partir de l’aplicació d’àcid giberèl•lic (Ralex®), en dos varietats de presseguer (Prunus persica L. Bastch)

L’ús de fitorreguladors com aclaridors químics en el cultiu del presseguer és una pràctica que no s’utilitza en la majoria d’explotacions comercials. Actualment l’aclarida es realitza de forma manual. Els assajos realitzats en dos varietats de presseguer, Zephyr i Fairlane, tenen per objectiu determinar l’eficàcia de l’aplicació d’àcid giberèl•lic (Ralex®) per a reduir la inducció de gemmes florals l’any següent a la seva aplicació. L’aplicació de 3,3 l/ha d’un formulat a base d’àcid giberèl•lic (Ralex®) en la primera quinzena de juliol ha reduït de forma significativa el nombre de flors en la varietat Zephyr, tot i que en Fairlane l’efecte no ha estat tant clar. Pel que fa a la qualitat dels fruits, val a dir que el tractament no ha mostrat, en aquest assaig, cap efecte de significació agronòmicament remarcable.

A proof that all Seifert 3-manifold groups and all virtual surface groups are conjugacy separable

We prove that the fundamental group of any Seifert 3-manifold is conjugacy separable. That is, conjugates may be distinguished infinite quotients or, equivalently, conjugacy classes are closed in the pro-finite topology.

Generalized property R and the Schoenflies Conjecture

There is a relation between the generalized Property R Conjecture and the Schoenflies Conjecture that suggests a new line of attack on the latter. The new approach gives a quick proof of the genus 2 Schoenflies Conjecture and suffices to prove the genus 3 case, even in the absence of new progress on the generalized Property R Conjecture.

Reduction, Linearization and stability of relative equilibria for mechanical systems on riemannian manifolds

Consider a Riemannian manifold equipped with an infinitesimal isometry. For this setup, a unified treatment is provided, solely in the language of Riemannian geometry, of techniques in reduction, linearization, and stability of relative equilibria. In particular, for mechanical control systems, an explicit characterization is given for the manner in which reduction by an infinitesimal isometry, and linearization along a controlled trajectory "commute." As part of the development, relationships are derived between the Jacobi equation of geodesic variation and concepts from reduction theory, such as the curvature of the mechanical connection and the effective potential. As an application of our techniques, fiber and base stability of relative equilibria are studied. The paper also serves as a tutorial of Riemannian geometric methods applicable in the intersection of mechanics and control theory.

Refilling meridians in a genus 2 handlebody complement

Suppose a genus two handlebody is removed from a 3-manifold M and then a single meridian of the handlebody is restored. The result is a knot or link complement in M and it is natural to ask whether geometric properties of the link complement say something about the meridian that was restored. Here we consider what the relation must be between two not necessarily disjoint meridians so that restoring each of them gives a trivial knot or a split link.

Non compact euclidean cone 3-manifolds with cone angles less than 2∏

We study of noncompact Euclidean cone manifolds with cone angles less than c&2π and singular locus a submanifold. More precisely, we describe its structure outside a compact set. As a corol lary we classify those with cone angles & 2π/3 and those with cone angles = 2π/3.

The bogomolov conjecture for totally degenerate Abelian varieties

We prove the Bogomolov conjecture for a totally degenerate abelian variety A over a function field. We adapt Zhang's proof of the number field case replacing the complex analytic tools by tropical analytic geometry. A key step is the tropical equidistribution theorem for A at the totally degenerate place.
