L'evolució de la biblioteca de la UOC : perspectives de futur

La Biblioteca de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya ofereix els seus serveis de manera virtual des de la seva creació, l'any 1995. Per això, l'aposta per les noves tecnologies del moment ha estat una constant durant aquests anys. A continuació, a través d'una breu menció a l'evolució històrica, es comenten els serveis i recursos oferts de forma pionera a nivell de biblioteques universitàries. S'analitzen els aspectes més destacables pel que fa als serveis, la gestió de la col·lecció, la formació, i la relació amb la Universitat, en el moment actual. Per concloure, es fa una anàlisi dels principals reptes de futur que la Biblioteca espera afrontar en els propers anys, tenint com a referent principal els usuaris i les innovacions tecnològiques que permetin donar resposta a les noves necessitats que vagin sorgint. Tot això, per continuar sent capdavantera en l'àmbit de les biblioteques virtuals.

Customization, transparency and proximity: a user- centered content strategy applied to the design of a virtual library website

We present a case study of the redesign of the organizational presentation and content of the Virtual Library website at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC), based on a user-centered design strategy. The aim of the redesign was to provide users with more intuitive, usable and understandable content (textual content, resources and services) by implementing criteria of customization, transparency and proximity. The study also presents a selection of best practices for applying these criteria to the design of other library websites.

How to redesign a virtual library website: a case study

This abstract presents how we redesigned, with user-centred design methods, the way we organize and present the content on the UOC Virtual Library website. The content is now offered in a way that is more intuitive, usable and easy to understand, based on criteria of customization, transparency and proximity.The techniques used to achieve these objectives included benchmarking, interviews and focus groups during the user requirement capture phase and user tests to assess the process and results.

From room for books to room for users: an old infantry barrack as an answer to the lack of space

At the beginning of the 21st century, some Catalan university libraries detected a need stemming from the lack of space and the reconversion of physical libraries within the new European educational panorama. With the same cooperative spirit that characterized previous CBUC (Consortium of Academic Libraries of Catalonia) programs and services, the Consortium set in motion a project to address this need. An initial study was commissioned in 2002, and in 2003 a suitable building (old infantry barracks) was found in Lleida. The official opening took place in 2008. GEPA (Guaranteed Space for the Preservation of Access) facility is a cooperative repository, whose objectives are to store and preserve low use documents, ensuring their future access when needed, to convert room for books into room for library users, and doing it saving both space and money. The paper presents a brief historical introduction about the physical management of collections in libraries, and a short overview about high density library repositories all over the world, as an answer to the pressing problem of lack of spaces. The main goals of the communication are to comment the architectural project and its librarian issues, and to show how the GEPA facility allowed to change the spaces in university libraries in Catalonia. On the one hand, the paper deals with the selection of an old building to be renovated, the determination of the librarian needs, the compact shelving system chosen to store the documents in the building, the relation between physical space and information management, and the logistics involved in the load of low use documents from the libraries into the facility. On the other hand, we will show some examples of physical changes in Catalan libraries after large loads of documents to GEPA.

Busco información sobre... : estándares para un servicio de búsqueda de información

El servicio de búsqueda de información tiene como finalidad proporcionar respuesta a las preguntas especializadas formuladas por los usuarios de la biblioteca. Los bibliotecarios temáticos consultas fuentes de información y elaboran una respuesta en función de las necesidades del usuario. La Biblioteca Rector Gabriel Ferraté ha elaborado unos estándares de calidad del servicio basados en: A) el análisis de la evolución de diversos indicadores. B) Los atributos de caliudad del servicio des del punto de vista del usuario. C) El análisis de los procesos que lo conforman.

Hacia el liaison librarian: transformación de servicios bibliotecarios para dar apoyo a la docencia en la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC)

Es descriu la transformació esdevinguda en els últims dos anys en un dels dos grups operatius de la Biblioteca Virtual de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), l'equip de Serveis de Biblioteca per a l'Aprenentatge (SBA), que té com a objectiu principal el suport al procés d'aprenentatge i la docència. Es descriu en detall l'elaboració d'una carta de serveis específica per als docents, el propòsit del qual és acompanyar-los en la recerca i selecció de recursos d'aprenentatge per a les assignatures que s'imparteixen a la UOC.

En respuesta al reto que supone el Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES), las bibliotecas universitarias deben adaptarse al modelo de un Centro de Recursos para el Aprendizaje y la Investigación (CRAI). En el caso del CRAI Biblioteca de Medicina de la Universidad de Barcelona se hace énfasis en los espacios, la difusión y el fondo bibliográfico.
