Taking on new challenges in multi-word unit processing for Machine Translation

This paper discusses the qualitativecomparative evaluation performed on theresults of two machine translation systemswith different approaches to the processing ofmulti-word units. It proposes a solution forovercoming the difficulties multi-word unitspresent to machine translation by adopting amethodology that combines the lexicongrammar approach with OpenLogos ontologyand semantico-syntactic rules. The paper alsodiscusses the importance of a qualitativeevaluation metrics to correctly evaluate theperformance of machine translation engineswith regards to multi-word units.

En ell he col·laborat amb CETRAMSA, empresa dedicada a la informació i difusió al ciutadà de l'oferta de transport públic en l'àmbit metropolità de Barcelona, per dur a terme la migració de la seva infraestructura de servidors a programari lliure.

Faculty and Student Perspectives Toward Open Courseware, and Open Access Publishing: Some Comparisons Between European and North American Populations

Instructor and student beliefs, attitudes and intentions toward contributing to local open courseware (OCW) sites have been investigated through campus-wide surveys at Universidad Politecnica de Valencia and the University of Michigan. In addition, at the University of Michigan, faculty have been queried about their participation in open access (OA) publishing. We compare the instructor and student data concerning OCW between the two institutions, and introduce the investigation of open access publishing in relation to open courseware publishing.

El present estudi descriu el procés de creació d'un sistema de localització en interiors que permet investigar les possibles diferències de la precisió de les localitzacions en entorns buits i amb presència d'altres persones. Posteriorment es presenten una sèrie de proves realitzades, s'exposen els seus resultats, així com les conclusions sobre com influencia el nombre d'usuaris a la precisió del sistema.

Implantación y ajuste de la aplicación GLPI para la administración de recursos informáticos en la Secretaría Distrital de Planeación

El proyecto GLPI consistió en apoyar el proceso de implantación, ajustes y aprendizaje de la aplicación de software libre GLPI para su uso en la Secretaría Distrital de Planeación de la ciudad de Bogotá, entidad de carácter público que, a través de esta herramienta, requirió mejorar el sistema de atención de incidencias y gestionar el inventario de software y hardware disponible en sus instalaciones con el claro objetivo de fortalecer su gestión.

Assessing functional relations in single-case designs: Quantitative proposals in the context of the evidence-based movement

In the context of the evidence-based practices movement, the emphasis on computing effect sizes and combining them via meta-analysis does not preclude the demonstration of functional relations. For the latter aim, we propose to augment the visual analysis to add consistency to the decisions made on the existence of a functional relation without losing sight of the need for a methodological evaluation of what stimuli and reinforcement or punishment are used to control the behavior. Four options for quantification are reviewed, illustrated, and tested with simulated data. These quantifications include comparing the projected baseline with the actual treatment measurements, on the basis of either parametric or nonparametric statistics. The simulated data used to test the quantifications include nine data patterns in terms of the presence and type of effect and comprising ABAB and multiple baseline designs. Although none of the techniques is completely flawless in terms of detecting a functional relation only when it is present but not when it is absent, an option based on projecting split-middle trend and considering data variability as in exploratory data analysis proves to be the best performer for most data patterns. We suggest that the information on whether a functional relation has been demonstrated should be included in meta-analyses. It is also possible to use as a weight the inverse of the data variability measure used in the quantification for assessing the functional relation. We offer an easy to use code for open-source software for implementing some of the quantifications.
