La Importància de la competències emocionals en la gent gran

Aquesta Memòria recull les pràctiques realitzades dins del marc del Màster en Envelliment Actiu a dues institucions: al Casal de Gent Gran Mn. Guiteras de Vic i a l’Hospital sociosanitari Sant Jaume de Manlleu. A la primera institució, es va dissenyar, elaborar, aplicar i avaluar, de forma conjunta amb la M. Teresa Lladó (una altra psicòloga companya del Màster) una intervenció en l’àmbit de la gent gran. L’actuació consistia en un taller de deu sessions de competències socioemocionals adreçat a la gent gran. A la segona institució, l’Hospital de Manlleu, les pràctiques van ser de caràcter individual i van consistir en el seguiment de la figura del psicòleg del centre sociosanitari per copsar les diverses funcions que realitza.

Declining labor force attachment and downward trends in unemployment and participation

The US labor market witnessed two apparently unrelated secular movements in thelast 30 years: a decline in unemployment between the early 1980s and the early 2000s,and a decline in participation since the early 2000s. Using CPS micro data and a stock-flow accounting framework, we show that a substantial, and hitherto unnoticed, factorbehind both trends is a decline in the share of nonparticipants who are at the margin ofparticipation. A lower share of marginal nonparticipants implies a lower unemploymentrate, because marginal nonparticipants enter the labor force mostly through unemployment,while other nonparticipants enter the labor force mostly through employment.

Labor market heterogeneity and the aggregate matching function

The matching function -a key building block in models of labor market frictions- impliesthat the job finding rate depends only on labor market tightness. We estimate such amatching function and find that the relation, although remarkably stable over 1967-2007,broke down spectacularly after 2007. We argue that labor market heterogeneities are notfully captured by the standard matching function, but that a generalized matching functionthat explicitly takes into account worker heterogeneity and market segmentation is fullyconsistent with the behavior of the job finding rate. The standard matching function canbreak down when, as in the Great Recession, the average characteristics of the unemployedchange too much, or when dispersion in labor market conditions -the extent to which somelabor markets fare worse than others- increases too much.

Les biblioteques populars de la Mancomunitat: un projecte polític i un projecte bibliotecari

Les biblioteques populars o públiques que impulsà la Mancomunitat de Catalunya, creades a imatge i semblança de les pioneres biblioteques anglosaxones, foren un modelinnovador dins del panorama bibliotecari d'Espanya. Al seu èxit contribuí tant la figura d'Eugeni d'Ors, responsable del projecte inicial que establí com havien de ser les biblioteques i quina havia de ser la formació del personal a l'Escola de Bibliotecàries, com la de Jordi Rubió, director de la Biblioteca de Catalunya, que el succeí com a director de la xarxa de biblioteques que implantà definitivament un sistema bibliotecari a Catalunya.

Educació en el lleure i l'ús de les tecnologies de la informació als hospitals pediàtrics: un estat de la qüestió

Estat de la qüestió sobre l'ús de les tecnologies de la informació als hospitals pediàtrics per tal d'educar en el lleure i pal·liar l'aïllament d'infants i adolescents i les seves famílies durant l'estada a l'hospital. A partir del grau d'implantació de les tecnologies, s'ha fet una anàlisi de diverses experiències d'arreu del món. S'han identificat dos models diferents pel que fa als objectius: els que centren la seva atenció en aspectes curriculars i els que potencien aspectes lúdics. Ambdós compten amb la implicació del personal sanitari vinculat als pacients i amb la figura del voluntari per a gestionar aquests serveis. Les principals diferències entre els projectes estudiats són les fonts de finançament, la tipologia de serveis que ofereixen i la naturalesa de les entitas que els promociona.

In the past Spanish workers moved to Europe. Now Spain is among the three major countries attracting immigrants from developing countries. In the past Spain received a lot of Foreign Investment, today many Spanish companies are investing abroad. The changes are not only due to membership to the EU but also to the Spanish accommodation to the Globalization.

An axiomatization of the nucleolus of the assignment game

[cat] En el domini dels jocs bilaterals d’assignació, es presenta una axiomàtica del nucleolus com l´unica solució que compleix les propietats de consistència respecte del joc derivat definit per Owen (1992) i monotonia de les queixes dels sectors respecte de la seva cardinalitat. Com a conseqüència obtenim una caracterització geomètrica del nucleolus mitjançant una propietat de bisecció més forta que la que satisfan els punts del kernel (Maschler et al, 1979).

Sequential decisions in allocation problems

[eng] In the context of cooperative TU-games, and given an order of players, we consider the problem of distributing the worth of the grand coalition as a sequentia decision problem. In each step of process, upper and lower bounds for the payoff of the players are required related to successive reduced games. Sequentially compatible payoffs are defined as those allocation vectors that meet these recursive bounds. The core of the game is reinterpreted as a set of sequentally compatible payoffs when the Davis-Maschler reduced game is considered (Th.1). Independently of the reduction, the core turns out to be the intersections of the family of the sets of sequentially compatible payoffs corresponding to the different possible orderings (Th.2), so it is in some sense order-independent. Finally, we analyze advantagenous properties for the first player

Diffusion in spatially and temporarily inhomogeneous media

In this paper we consider diffusion of a passive substance C in a temporarily and spatially inhomogeneous two-dimensional medium. As a realization for the latter we choose a phase-separating medium consisting of two substances A and B, whose dynamics is determined by the Cahn-Hilliard equation. Assuming different diffusion coefficients of C in A and B, we find that the variance of the distribution function of the said substance grows less than linearly in time. We derive a simple identity for the variance using a probabilistic ansatz and are then able to identify the interface between A and B as the main cause for this nonlinear dependence. We argue that, finally, for very large times the here temporarily dependent diffusion "constant" goes like t-1/3 to a constant asymptotic value D¿. The latter is calculated approximately by employing the effective-medium approximation and by fitting the simulation data to the said time dependence.

Design of Optical Systems With Extended Depth of Field: an Educational Approach to Wavefront Coding Techniques

A practical activity designed to introduce wavefront coding techniques as a method to extend the depth of field in optical systems is presented. The activity is suitable for advanced undergraduate students since it combines different topics in optical engineering such as optical system design, aberration theory, Fourier optics, and digital image processing. This paper provides the theoretical background and technical information for performing the experiment. The proposed activity requires students able to develop a wide range of skills since they are expected to deal with optical components, including spatial light modulators, and develop scripts to perform some calculations.

Seguimiento del aprendizaje mediante análisis de trazas en una simulación de trampas ópticas

En este artículo se presenta una simulación de una trampa óptica, es decir, un haz de luz muy focalizado capaz de atrapar partículas dieléctricas alrededor de la zona focal. El programa ha sido diseñado para su utilización en la docencia a nivel de último año del grado de Física o Máster. La aplicación incluye un sistema de seguimiento que permite conocer (trazar) la interacción del estudiante con el programa. Esta herramienta permitirá al profesor analizar el trabajo realizado por el alumno así como también detectar la presencia de errores comunes.

El Memorial de Barcelona a Archer Milton Huntington, el fundador de la Hispanic Society of America, y a su esposa, la escultora, Anna Hyatt Huntington.

Barcelona en 1954 se anticipo a todos los homenajes, dedicando a Archer Milton Huntington (New York, 1870- Bathel, Connecticut, 1955) un monumento en reconocimiento a su excepcional figura como coleccionista e hispanófilo y también a su esposa, Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington (Cambridge, 1876 - California, 1973), excelente escultora que generosamente secundo los propósitos filo hispanos de su consorte. De esta manera Barcelona quería dejar constancia de su devoción y tributo a este reconocido coleccionista y filántropo americano que ayudo a vencer el llamado "Paradigma Prescott", historiador que había defendido las tesis sobre la leyenda negra española. A la vez que se reconocía que Archer M. Huntington ocupaba un lugar preeminente en la línea del hispanismo americano conjuntamente con los nombres de George Ticknor (1791 -1871), Washington Irving (1783-1859) y Henry Longfellow (1807-1882).
