Analysis and treatment of a nineteenth century oil painting

This thesis focused on the study and treatment of a 19th century female portrait in oil from ECOMUSEU Municipal do Seixal, Portugal. The portrait, which depicts Isabel Maria Louren��o Affonso was in poor condition and a large strip of paint and canvas was missing (approximately 9cm by 66cm, almost 11% of the total surface area). The portrait is a companion piece to a male portrait (the relationship was established as part of this study), therefore a technical study of both paintings was considered essential to support the choices made during the treatment. The project involved three main areas: - The study of the history, condition, materials and techniques of both paintings. This allowed their comparison and understanding of their relationship; - The treatment of Isabel Maria Louren��o Affonso. The choices made and problems encountered are described. - The production of a replacement for the missing strip of paint and canvas. The practical solution developed to overcome such an unusual challenge is described along with the creative and flexible thinking required. Because not all traditional infill materials cope well on a mechanical level with thin layers over a very large surface (many are too brittle), strict criteria had to be employed to choose the appropriate material. The primary goal was to find a fill which would remain flexible and be capable of accepting surface texture, such that there would be a good visual match with the painting. Analysis and testing was carried out to evaluate the physical properties of the fill material chosen, BEVA�� Gesso-P. Carateriza����o da tomada de decis��o em organiza����es hospitalares : impacto do estatuto jur��dico

RESUMO - O decisor hospitalar tem como fun����o decidir os recursos de uma organiza����o de sa��de, sejam estes financeiros, materiais ou humanos, sendo decisivo o conhecimento e informa����o que o apoiem na aplicabilidade nas tomadas de decis��o e na solu����o dos problemas. As tomadas de decis��o suportam-se em modelos reproduzidos pelos decisores, em processos, modelos, e em princ��pios, que podem ou n��o assumir intui����o, objetividade, racionalidade e ��tica, bem como de t��cnicas v��rias que podem ser limitativas ou condicionadas, por for��a de fatores v��rios, como: a falta de informa����o inerente de uma multidisciplinaridade do processo; de condicionalismos organizacionais, internos ou externos, associados �� envolvente e cultura organizacional e influ��ncias pol��ticas e macroecon��micas; ao fator tempo; a tecnologia; a estrutura e desenho organizacional; a autoridade/poder e a autonomia para decidir; a lideran��a, e do estatuto jur��dico que o hospital possui. Este ��ltimo ponto ser�� esmiu��ado, mais profundamente, neste estudo. Iremos, atrav��s do estudo, compreender se os elementos componentes das decis��es tomadas nos hospitais, s��o ou n��o adaptadas em conson��ncia com diferentes pol��ticas de governa����o hospitalar, em contextos e din��micas organizacionais diferenciadas, por diferentes Estatutos Jur��dicos Hospitalares - EPE, SPA, PPP e Privados. Foi realizado um estudo de car��ter explorat��rio, descritivo-correlacional e transversal, baseou-se num question��rio aplicado a decisores hospitalares, incidindo nos dois vetores centrais do estudo, na tomada de decis��o e no estatuto jur��dico hospitalar. A decis��o �� ent��o, um valios��ssimo ve��culo na persecu����o das estrat��gias e planos formulados pelo hospital, esperando-se destes produzir consequentes resultados eficientes, eficazes e efetivos na sua aplica����o.

Starburst accelerator and incubator construction & energy: How to monitor the activities of an incubator and give strategic advice to startups

This work project takes the format of a problem-solving approach suggested by ���Impulse Partners���, a French consulting firm. It recommends a way to measure the success of ten startups in the incubators ���Starburst��� and ���Incubator Construction & Energy��� and give them strategic guidance. A Balanced Scorecard is elaborated to help incubated startups building up and implementing their strategy. The Scorecard suggests possible initiatives for the startups that are ideally realized with the help of the consulting firm that is steering the incubator. Special attention is drawn to what the startups need to succeed, which typically concerns financing, networking and managing skills.

A proactive approach o XY international expansion

This work project was conducted under a Direct Research internship (DRI) that consists on an individual dissertation established on a given organization. DRI has a problem solving format to an empirical question to be addressed, ��Which country has the highest potential for the next step of XY internationalization process? ��. In order to achieve the project���s purpose, it was conducted a scanning process using a top-down approach over an initial list of nine countries given by XY. To do so it was developed an international scanning framework based on different domains and weights that allowed to achieve the top two countries with highest potential. After an in depth analysis over the final set, it was recommended Switzerland as the best country to make the next step of XY internationalization in Europe.
