Integrally asymmetric skinned Lenzing P84 and Matrimid 5218 polymide membranes and Ultem 1000 polyetherimide membranes were prepared. Crosslinking of membranes using aliphatic diamines resulted in marked improvement in chemical stability. This however resulted in a decline in flux with only Lenzing P84 demonstrating good flux in DMF. Further variation of membrane dope parameters and operating conditions allowed for good control of the MWCO of membranes made from Lenzing P84. SEM pictures of Lenzing P84 membranes revealed a significant difference in membranes morphology. The presence of macrovoids increased when using more DMF in the dope solution. These studies demonstrate the possibility of developing OSN membranes using different polyimides and opens up future possibilities for controlling the MWCO of these membranes. Preliminary modelling demonstrates that good control of the MWCO could extend the application of OSN membranes to allow the fraction of molecules in the NF range.

Micro/nano wrinkled patterns on cross-linked urethane/urea polymeric flexible free standing films with two soft segments, polypropylene oxide and polybutadiene, can be induced by UV-irradiation. The ability to write/erase these 3D structures, in a controlled manner, is the main focus of this work. The imprinting of the wrinkled structures was accomplished by swelling in an appropriate solvent followed by drying the membranes after the cross-linking process and UV irradiation. The surface tailoring of the elastomeric membranes was imaged by optical microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy and by atomic force microscopy. To erase the wrinkled structures the elastomers were swollen. The swelling as well as the sol/gel fraction and the UV radiation were tuned in order to control the wrinkles characteristics. It was found that the wrinkles wavelength, in the order of microns (1±0,25μm), was stamped by the UV radiation intensity and exposure time while the wrinkles' amplitude, in the order of nanometers (150-450 nm), was highly dependent on the swelling and sol/gel fraction. A prototype for volatile organic compounds detection was developed taking advantage of the unique 3D micro/nano wrinkles features.

This report is the outcome of an internship that took place in Centro de Arbitragem Comercial da Câmara de Comércio e Indústria Portuguesa and its completion is an essential part of the path towards obtaining the Master’s Degree in Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. This report has been structured in two stages – firstly, the presentation of the Centro de Arbitragem Comercial, focusing on its field of expertise, organic structure, principles and advantages. Then, the description of the activities developed within the Secretariat over the several stages of the arbitration procedure – since the reception of the arbitration requirement in institutional proceedings, terms of reference in ad hoc procedures, through the monitoring of the arbitral tribunal sessions (preliminary hearings, submission of evidence and final allegations) and the notification of the arbitration award. The second stage of this report is related to the description of the functions and powers of the President of Centro de Arbitragem Comercial. Firstly, it defines those powers by analyzing the statutes and rules of proceedings of the Centro de Arbitragem, drawing comparisons between the above mention and the rules of proceedings of others arbitral institutional centres, some of them are international references. The report assesses and describes the presidential powers, such as: configuration and composition of the arbitral tribunal (including arbitrator’s replacements, excuses and refusals); deadline extensions; determination of procedural rules and decision-making on any procedural incidents which arise before the constitution of the arbitral tribunal; definition of arbitration costs and fees; joinder of parties and consolidation of proceedings admission; and appointment of an emergency arbitrator. Lastly, this report analyzes some decisions delivered by the President in the respective institutional procedures which took place in the Centre.

The purpose of the project was to create a marketing plan for the Portuguese brand O’Templus Gin, owned and managed by Oficina de Espíritos in Évora, Portugal. Here O’Templus gin is marketed as an artisanal, organic gin for organic consumers. Information collected to understand the market was consistent with previous research, however there continues to be a lack of information on the organic alcoholic drinks market in Portugal. Identifying the needs of the organic consumer in Portugal, and gauging interest in the product itself, a marketing plan was developed to bring O’Templus to a wider audience.
