The questioning of fictional identities is central in both texts. Their structure illustrates the Bakhtinian notions of heteroglossia and dialogism and one of their main themes is the structuring and restructuring of social and personal history. Together with the use of irony and humour, the parody of social context, the use of intertextuality and metafiction, the exploration of fragment and of discontinuity, the development of self reflection and the interrogation of the author before the condition of his work, the focusing on the presence of a reader lost in the interpretation of the text, this problematisation of fictional identities places these two novels between the acts of modernism and postmodernism.

Heritages, Identities, and Policy in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon

In a world that has moved away from narratives based on the idea of progress, the past has established itself as a place of reference: confirming to ourselves that what we were is indispensible for sustaining what we think we are. The recovery of the past is thus one of the most common symbolic instruments used in negotiating identities. The cultural practices that have recourse to representation mechanisms that call on the past in order to consider the present always end up translating themselves, insofar as they fragment, reorganize and interpret it in their transformation, or, to use a formula that has become unavoidable, in their “invention”. Patrimonialization is one such practice. It associates the notion of heritage – which is not a given fact, but rather a socially constructed classification, and therefore one that is constantly being negotiated – with specific objects that come to serve as cultural representations of the groups who consider themselves to be their rightful owners. In the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, as in other ethnographic contexts, patrimonialization encompasses things as diverse as landscapes, monuments, popular architecture, handicrafts, local feast days/processions/pilgrimages and people; all things that can, once transformed into material representations of the past, serve as arguments for the identity fictions of the people who inhabit them.

Proportion, (dis)Harmonies, Identities

Number, dimension, geometric constructions, and the relationship between dimensions, proportion, are expressions of harmony and rhythm and considered a source of beauty in the things of nature, like crystals, plants, and animals, but also in human artefacts, as buildings and art in general. This is an old idea, which corresponds to the Pythagorean notion that the world is a harmonious mathematical creation and that in order to attend such harmony, the things we do have to obey the same mathematical laws. Proportion (dis)Harmonies and Identities, aims to promote awareness and reflection on the importance of this issue with the dissemination of researches of various fields of knowledge.

The most Portuguese village in Portugal: tradition in the age of its technical reproducibility

Ethnographic film is often associated with many European countries’ past as colonial powers and the way these countries used film to depict African, American and Asian territories and populations they once ruled. However, ethnographic film also has a European tradition of its own, closely interlaced with the history of ethnography and anthropology as autonomous sciences and with the desire of scholars to represent local, regional and national cultural identities. This paper presents a Portuguese attempt of this sort dating from 1938, when the authoritarian regime organized a national contest to determine which would be Portugal’s most “authentic” village – something other European countries also did. As part of this metonymic contribution to the construction of Portugal’s national identity as an agrarian utopia, a short documentary was shot, sponsored by the same official propaganda office that had organized the contest. In this film, the viewer’s gaze is made to coincide with the one of the national jury visiting the final selection of 12 villages and to whose benefit local scholars had organized all sorts of colourful peasant traditions hoping to cause the strongest impression. The film makes a strong case for the importance of ethnographic film as a relevant instance not only of the iteration of existing European national cultures, but also of the construction of so many of Europe’s national identities and traditions. Suffice to say that even today the village of “Monsanto”, which won the 1938 contest, is still referred to as “Portugal’s most Portuguese village”.

O impacto do perfil do utente da USF durante o seu internamento

RESUMO - Introdução: Através da elaboração do presente projeto de investigação pretendeu-se analisar o que poderá influenciar o custo total de um utente internado, inscrito numa USF, que foi seguidamente internado no setor hospitalar. Recorreu-se à base de dados de uma USF e de um hospital, ambos pertencentes à ARS Alentejo do ano de 2010. O objetivo central consiste em estudar a relação do volume de consultas da USF e se o tipo de admissão no hospital, sendo ela programada ou não programada, explica a variância o custo do internamento. Metodologia: Foi efetuado o cruzamento entre os dados dos utentes inscritos na USF e o total de internamento hospitalar, utilizando a sua data de nascimento e respetivo sexo. Após efetuado o cruzamento, através de um procedimento estatístico com base em SPSS, foram estipuladas pressupostos de forma a encontrar uma associação entre o custo do utente internado com as variáveis da base de dados da USF. De seguida, foi verificado se o tipo de admissão do internamento pode ou não influenciar o custo do internamento. Para efetuar tais correlações, optei por separar a amostra consoante alguns dos seus grupos mais frequentes, em que foi desagregado os internamentos referentes ao GCD 14 – Gravidez, Parto e Puerpério e dos utentes pertencentes ao escalão etários dos idosos (mais de 64 anos). Resultados: A variável da idade do utente é a que mais poderá explicar a variância do custo do internamento, apresentando sempre valores significativos para tal relação. As restantes pouco ou nada podem explicar a variância do custo do internamento. Quanto à tipologia de admissão, o facto de ser programado poderá explicar a diminuição dos dias de internamento, que concomitantemente poderá diminuir o custo do internamento, devido a forte correlação existente entre elas (r=0,666). Conclusão: A introdução da integração dos cuidados de saúde a nível primário e secundário poderá ser a solução base para a redução dos gastos desnecessários na saúde. Um maior acompanhamento do utente nos CSP poderá reduzir a frequência hospitalar, como verificamos que as variáveis da USF e o facto de a consulta ser programada podem explicar tal variância.

Uma metodologia para aplicação da marcação CE em máquinas

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo o desenvolvimento de uma metodologia para aplicação da marcação CE num equipamento elétrico e mecânico na perspetiva do fabricante. Esta será acompanhada com um caso de estudo, que servirá de exemplo prático e complementará a explicação do processo. O produto em estudo é uma máquina fabricada pelo Grupo Construal, empresa CFM - Projecto e Construção de Máquinas, Lda., modelo comercial CR Plus, que tem como principal finalidade cortar pedra nas indústrias de transformação de rochas ornamentais. A marcação CE é um “passe” de livre comercialização de produtos na Europa que tem como objetivo permitir às entidades fiscalizadoras verificar se os fabricantes garantem, ou não, a conformidade do seu produto relativamente aos requisitos de saúde, segurança e proteção ambiental da União Europeia. Essa conformidade é documentada pelo fabricante através de um dossiê técnico com certos requisitos que - apesar de explicitados nas diretivas e em normas complementares de apoio - necessitam de um processo de validação. Este trabalho pretende facilitar a realização desse processo para máquinas, explicando-o passo-a-passo, em forma de guião. No Capítulo 1 introduz-se a importância do tema, os objetivos e a estrutura da dissertação. No Capítulo 2 analisa-se a marcação CE, sendo também mencionada a legislação aplicável para garantir a conformidade de produtos. No Capítulo 3 expõe-se as Diretivas aplicáveis às máquinas. O Capítulo 4 contém a metodologia que se desenvolveu para a aplicação da Diretiva Máquinas. Por fim, no Capítulo 5 apresenta-se a empresa do Grupo Construal que fabrica a máquina em estudo, juntamente com a aplicação à máquina de corte modelo CR Plus da metodologia descrita no Capítulo 4. Uma breve nota final avalia o grau de concretização dos objetivos fixados inicialmente, dando destaque à perspetiva do fabricante, sempre presente no desenvolvimento da metodologia. Face à grande dinâmica regulamentar da EU é realçado o interesse em manter atualizada a metodologia exposta.
