One cannot analyse a legal concept outside the economic and socio-cultural context in which it was applied such is the longstanding thesis of Antnio Manuel Hespanha. I argue that Hespanhas line of argument relative to legal concepts is also applicable, mutatis mutandis, to legal agents: the magistrates, advocates, notaries, solicitors and clerks who lived and exercised their professions in a given time and place. The question, then, is how to understand the actions of these individuals in particular contexts more specifically in late 18th century and 19th century Goa. The main goal of the present thesis was to comprehend how westernized and Catholic Goan elite of Brahman and Chard origin who provided the majority of Goan legal agents used Portuguese law to their own advantage. It can be divided into five key points. The first one is the importance of the Constitutional liberalism regime (with all the juridical, judicial, administrative and political changes that it has brought, namely the parliamentary representation) and its relations with the perismo a local political and ideological tendency nurtured by Goan native Catholic elite. It was explored in the chapter 2 of this thesis. The second key point is the repeated attempts made by Goan native Catholic elite to implement the jury system in local courts. It was studied in the chapter 3. Chapter 4 aims to understand the participation of the native Catholic elite in the codification process of the uses and traditions of the indigenous peoples in New Conquests territory. The fourth key point is the involvement of those elites not only in the conflict of civil and ecclesiastical jurisdictions but also in the succession of the Royal House of Sunda. It was analyzed in the chapter 5. The functions of an advocate could be delegated to someone who, though lacking a law degree, possessed sufficient knowledge to perform this role satisfactorily. Those who held a special licence to practice law were known as provisionrios (from proviso, or licence, as opposed to the letrados, or lettered). In the Goa of the second half of the 18th century and the 19th century, such provisionrios were abundant, the vast majority coming from the native Catholic elite. The characteristics of those provisionrios, the role played by the Portuguese letrados in Goa and the difficult relations between both groups were studied in the chapter 6.

The purpose of the present work is to analyse and provide kixikila legal framework under Angolan law. Kixikila, despite being a legally atypical agreement, is a socially typical contract, governed essentially by the practices and customs in Angola and concluded throughout the country. With the above purpose in mind, this thesis is structured in five chapters: the first one aims at better understanding its features and, therefore, it describes the kixikila in accordance with oral research, direct observation and the contributions of scholars that have examined this matter. The second chapter aims at qualifying the kixikila as a legal transaction. For this purpose, we have analysed its requirements, formation stages, content and form, characteristics, rights and obligations of the parties, effects and compliance. We have also covered the reasons that explain why this type of agreement shall be legally protected in line with the protection conferred upon other legal agreements, taking into account its economic and social function. The third chapter covers the vicissitudes which may occur during the term of the kixikila agreement, as well as the enforcement mechanisms in face of breach and its termination. The fourth chapter aims at qualifying this agreement by comparing its most relevant characteristics with those of typical agreements, with a view to determining its legal nature based upon the similarity with other contractual types. This chapter further makes a comparative synthesis between the contracts in analysis. The fifth chapter analyses the legal nature and legal framework applicable to kixikila taking into account mixed-purpose contracts and sui generis contracts. We conclude that practices and customs in Angola take precedence as regards kixikila. Lastly, we attach additional information, such as excerpts of interviews with some individuals intervening in kixikila, the functional structure of kixikila and examples of kixikila, as well as demonstrative lists of countries where this type of agreement takes place and the obligations arising therefrom.

O presente texto visa fornecer uma viso sobre como se articulou, desde a Idade Mdia at actualidade, a relao entre, por um lado, os usos concretos de emblemas herldicos pelos indivduos ou instituies da Igreja Catlica e, por outro, a produo de textos tericos e normativos sobre a herldica eclesistica. O objectivo consiste em procurar definir as caractersticas especficas da herldica eclesistica em contraposio aos demais tipos de armaria, mostrando como aquela espelha o equilbrio entre identificao individual e representao da hierarquia da Igreja.

S. Joo da Madeira uma localidade que desde cedo construiu os seus discursos em torno da identidade local sob o epteto de Cidade do Trabalho. Mais recentemente, desde a ltima dcada do sculo XX, a cidade comeou a olhar para a sua dimenso industrial do ponto de vista do seu cunho patrimonial, dentro do quadro emergente das polticas culturais e de identidade, no qual as identidades particulares como escala local se querem afirmar no plano global. Partindo de uma primeira anlise dos processos contemporneos de patrimonializao do industrial no contexto de S. Joo da Madeira, concretizados pela via dos museus e do turismo, num trabalho de projeto que se apresenta como fase de investigao preliminar de um futuro trabalho de doutoramento, questiona-se como a antropologia poder pensar o conceito de cultura popular fora dos contextos normalmente a estes atribudos e como, consequentemente, poder problematizar as fronteiras daquilo que poder ser considerado ou no Patrimnio Cultural Imaterial (PCI), categoria com a qual a disciplina est historicamente comprometida.

A partir de 1975, como consequncia do processo de descolonizao, mais de meio milho de pessoas teve de abandonar Angola, pas onde residia, rumo a Portugal. Estes migrantes, uma vez chegados ao seu destino, foram chamados retornados. Esta dissertao aborda o papel da msica no fenmeno de migrao forada da qual os naturais e ex-residentes de Angola foram os protagonistas, bem como as formas como a deslocao hoje por eles vivida. So apresentados dois casos de estudo, resultado de trabalho de campo realizado em Portugal. O primeiro diz respeito aos convvios que so organizados anualmente na cidade das Caldas da Rainha pelos ex-residentes das cidades angolanas do Huambo e da Hula, e onde a msica e a dana se revestem de uma importncia relevante. O segundo foca a histria de vida e as prticas expressivas de Pedro Coqueno, originrio da cidade do Huambo, locutor radiofnico, msico, DJ e mentor do projeto performativo Batida. Em ambos os casos foi analisado o papel da msica e da performance na integrao, afirmao e reinveno identitria. salientada a importncia da memria e dos seus diferentes usos, e da sensorialidade nas prticas expressivas dos intervenientes, j que estas favorecem a permanncia e a reconstruo da sua angolanidade em Portugal.
