Este trabalho ocorre face à necessidade da empresa Helisuporte ter uma perspectiva a nível de fiabilidade das suas aeronaves. Para isso, foram traçados como objectivos de estudo a criação de uma base de dados de anomalias; identificação de sistemas e componentes problemáticos; caracterização dos mesmos, avaliar a condição de falha e, com isto, apresentar soluções de controlo de anomalias. Assim, foi desenvolvida uma metodologia que proporciona tratamento de dados com recurso a uma análise não-paramétrica, tendo sido escolhida a estatística de amostra. Esta irá permitir a identificação dos sistemas problemáticos e seus componentes anómalos. Efectuado o tratamento de dados, passamos para a caracterização fiabilística desses componentes, assumindo o tempo de operação e a vida útil específica de cada um. Esta foi possível recorrendo ao cálculo do nível de fiabilidade, MTBF, MTBUR e taxa de avarias. De modo a identificar as diferentes anomalias e caracterizar o “know-how” da equipa de manutenção, implementou-se a análise de condição de falha, mais propriamente a análise dos modos e efeitos de falha. Tendo isso em atenção, foi construído um encadeamento lógico simples, claro e eficaz, face a uma frota complexa. Implementada essa metodologia e analisados os resultados podemos afirmar que os objectivos foram alcançados, concluindo-se que os valores de fiabilidade que caracterizam alguns dos componentes das aeronaves pertencentes à frota em estudo não correspondem ao esperado e idealizado como referência de desempenho dos mesmos. Assim, foram sugeridas alterações no manual de manutenção de forma a melhorar estes índices. Com isto conseguiu-se desenvolver, o que se poderá chamar de, “fiabilidade na óptica do utilizador”.

Purpose - To compare the image quality and effective dose applying the 10 kVp rule with manual mode acquisition and AEC mode in PA chest X-ray. Method - 68 images (with and without lesions) were acquired using an anthropomorphic chest phantom using a Wolverson Arcoma X-ray unit. These images were compared against a reference image using the 2 alternative forced choice (2AFC) method. The effective dose (E) was calculated using PCXMC software using the exposure parameters and the DAP. The exposure index (lgM provided by Agfa systems) was recorded. Results - Exposure time decreases more when applying the 10 kVp rule with manual mode (50%–28%) when compared with automatic mode (36%–23%). Statistical differences for E between several ionization chambers' combinations for AEC mode were found (p = 0.002). E is lower when using only the right AEC ionization chamber. Considering the image quality there are no statistical differences (p = 0.348) between the different ionization chambers' combinations for AEC mode for images with no lesions. Considering lgM values, it was demonstrated that they were higher when the AEC mode was used compared to the manual mode. It was also observed that lgM values obtained with AEC mode increased as kVp value went up. The image quality scores did not demonstrate statistical significant differences (p = 0.343) for the images with lesions comparing manual with AEC mode. Conclusion - In general the E is lower when manual mode is used. By using the right AEC ionising chamber under the lung the E will be the lowest in comparison to other ionising chambers. The use of the 10 kVp rule did not affect the visibility of the lesions or image quality.

The lgM values showed significant statistical differences (p=0.000). The image quality scores did not present statistically significant differences (p=0.043) for the images with lesions when comparing manual with AEC modes. Conclusion: In general, the dose is lower in the manual mode. By using the right AEC ionising chamber the effective dose will be the lowest in comparison to other ionising chambers. The use of the 10 kVp rule did not affect the detectability of the lesions.

This study was developed with the purpose to investigate the effect of polysaccharide/plasticiser concentration on the microstructure and molecular dynamics of polymeric film systems, using transmission electron microscope imaging (TEM) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. Experiments were carried out in chitosan/glycerol films prepared with solutions of different composition. The films obtained after drying and equilibration were characterised in terms of composition, thickness and water activity. Results show that glycerol quantities used in film forming solutions were responsible for films composition; while polymer/total plasticiser ratio in the solution determined the thickness (and thus structure) of the films. These results were confirmed by TEM. NMR allowed understanding the films molecular rearrangement. Two different behaviours for the two components analysed, water and glycerol were observed: the first is predominantly moving free in the matrix, while glycerol is mainly bounded to the chitosan chain. Introduction - The increasing of TB burden is usually related to inadequate case detection, diagnosis and cure. Global targets for TB control, adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO), are to detect 70% of the estimated incidence of sputum smear-positive TB and to cure 85% of newly detected cases of sputum smear-positive TB. Factors associated with unsuccessful treatment outcomes are closely related to TB risk factors. Objectives - To describe treatment success rates in pulmonary TB cases and to identify factors associated with unsuccessful treatment outcomes, according to ad-hoc studies.

Six open reading frames (ORFs) located on chromosome VII of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (YGR205w, YGR210c, YGR211w, YGR241c, YGR243w and YGR244c) were disrupted in two different genetic backgrounds using short-flanking homology (SFH) gene replacement. Sporulation and tetrad analysis showed that YGR211w, recently identified as the yeast ZPR1 gene, is an essential gene. The other five genes are non-essential, and no phenotypes could be associated to their inactivation. Two of these genes have recently been further characterized: YGR241c (YAP1802) encodes a yeast adaptor protein and YGR244c (LSC2) encodes the b-subunit of the succinyl-CoA ligase. For each ORF, a replacement cassette with long flanking regions homologous to the target locus was cloned in pUG7, and the cognate wild-type gene was cloned in pRS416.

A non-coherent vector delay/frequency-locked loop architecture for GNSS receivers is proposed. Two dynamics models are considered: PV (position and velocity) and PVA (position, velocity, and acceleration). In contrast with other vector architectures, the proposed approach does not require the estimation of signals amplitudes. Only coarse estimates of the carrier-to-noise ratios are necessary.
