A Voltage Limiter Circuit for Indoor Light Energy Harvesting Applications

A voltage limiter circuit for indoor light energy harvesting applications is presented. This circuit is a part of a bigger system, whose function is to harvest indoor light energy, process it and store it, so that it can be used at a later time. This processing consists on maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and stepping-up, of the voltage from the photovoltaic (PV) harvester cell. The circuit here described, ensures that even under strong illumination, the generated voltage will not exceed the limit allowed by the technology, avoiding the degradation, or destruction, of the integrated die. A prototype of the limiter circuit was designed in a 130 nm CMOS technology. The layout of the circuit has a total area of 23414 mu m(2). Simulation results, using Spectre, are presented.

Análise da influência da aplicação de kinesio tape na ativação muscular durante um passe de futsal

Introdução – O futsal é um desporto exigente, pelo que a aplicação de bandas de kinesio tape surge como uma vertente de intervenção a considerar. Objetivos – Analisar o efeito do kinesio tape na ativação e amplitude muscular do longo peroneal e tibial anterior na execução de um passe. Metodologia – Foram estudados 40 passes por cada situação definida (sem banda de kinesio tape e com banda para o tibial anterior e longo peroneal, aplicadas em separado), perfazendo um total de 120 comportamentos distintos. O gesto técnico foi realizado por atletas sem historial de lesão. Após avaliação do sinal eletromiográfico foram estudados os dois picos presentes. Resultados – Verificaram- se diferenças entre as três situações em estudo. A banda de kinesio tape não se revelou eficaz na antecipação e aumento de ativação muscular nas condições definidas no estudo. Discussão – O executante estabelece estratégias diferentes para responder a diferentes estados de estabilidade ao longo dessa mesma tarefa. Conclusão – A individualidade de cada comportamento técnico foi estudado e pela ausência de história anterior de lesão dos seus executantes e pelo gesto técnico proposto o estímulo das bandas de kinesio tape pode não ter sido suficiente para o aumento e pré-ativação muscular.

Fungal contamination in feed production in Portugal: what to expect regarding mycotoxins contamination?

Fungi on crops produce mycotoxins in the field, during handling, and in storage. Exposure of animals and humans are usually through consumption of contaminated feedstuffs or foods. Molds can grow and mycotoxins can be produced either pre-harvest or post-harvest, during storage, transport, processing, or feeding. Worldwide, approximately 25% of crops are affected by mycotoxins annually. Because of this is possible to concluded that mycotoxins occur frequently in a variety of feedstuffs that are given to animals causing several effects: subclinical losses in performance, increases the incidence of disease and reduced reproductive performance. Aim of study: A study was developed intending to know environmental fungal contamination in a Portuguese feed production unit. Corn, wheat and soybeans were the most common cereals used in the feed production.
