A method to control the speed or the torque of a permanent-magnet direct current motor is presented. The rotor speed and the external torque estimation are simultaneously provided by appropriate observers. The sensorless control scheme is based on current measurement and switching states of power devices. The observer’s performances are dependent on the accurate machine parameters knowledge. Sliding mode control approach was adopted for drive control, providing the suitable switching states to the chopper power devices. Despite the predictable chattering, a convenient first order switching function was considered enough to define the sliding surface and to correspond with the desired control specifications and drive performance. The experimental implementation was supported on a single dsPIC and the controller includes a logic overcurrent protection.

Com vista a revolucionar o sector das comunicações móveis, muito à custa dos elevados débitos prometidos, a tecnologia LTE recorre a uma técnica que se prevê que seja bastante utilizada nas futuras redes de comunicações móveis: Relaying. Juntamente com esta técnica, o LTE recorre à técnica MIMO, para melhorar a qualidade da transmissão em ambientes hostis e oferecer elevados ritmos de transmissão. No planeamento das próximas redes LTE, o recurso à técnica Relaying é frequente. Esta técnica, tem como objectivo aumentar a cobertura e/ou capacidade da rede, e ainda melhorar o seu desempenho em condições de fronteira de célula. A performance de uma RS depende da sua localização, das condições de propagação do canal rádio a que tanto a RS como o EU estão sujeitos, e ainda da capacidade que a RS tem de receber, processar e reencaminhar a informação. O objectivo da tese é estudar a relação existente entre o posicionamento de uma RS e o seu desempenho. Desta forma, pretende-se concluir qual a posição ideal de uma RS (tanto do tipo AF como SDF). Para além deste estudo, é apresentado um comparativo do desempenho dos modos MIMO TD e OL-SM, onde se conclui em que condições deverão ser utilizados, numa rede LTE equipada com FRSs.

Devido ao acréscimo significativo de viaturas e peões nas grandes cidades foi necessário recorrer aos mecanismos existentes para coordenar o tráfego. Nesta perspectiva surge a implementação de semáforos com o objectivo de ordenar o tráfego nas vias rodoviárias. A gestão de tráfego, tem sido sujeita a inovações tanto ao nível dos equipamentos, do software usado, gestão centralizada, monitorização das vias e na sincronização semafórica, sendo possível a criação de programas ajustados às diferentes exigências de tráfego verificadas durante as vinte e quatro horas para pontos distintos da cidade. Conceptualmente foram elaborados estudos, com o objectivo de identificar a relação entre a velocidade o fluxo e o intervalo num determinado intervalo de tempo, bem como a relação entre a velocidade e a sinistralidade. Até 1995 Portugal era um dos países com maior número de sinistros rodoviários Na sequência desta evolução foram instalados radares de controlo de velocidade no final de 2006 com o objectivo de obrigar ao cumprimento dos limites de velocidade impostos pelo código da estrada e reduzir a sinistralidade automóvel na cidade de Lisboa. Passados alguns anos sobre o investimento realizadoanteriormente, constatamos que existe a necessidade de implementar novas tecnologias na detecção das infracções, sejam estas de excesso de velocidade ou violação do semáforo vermelho (VSV), optimizar a informação disponibilizada aos automobilistas e aos peões, coordenar a interacção entre os veículos prioritários e os restantes presentes na via, dinamizar a gestão interna das contra ordenações, agilizar os procedimentos informatizar a recolha deinformação de modo a tornar os processos mais céleres.

This paper presents a variable speed autonomous squirrel cage generator excited by a current-controlled voltage source inverter to be used in stand-alone micro-hydro power plants. The paper proposes a system control strategy aiming to properly excite the machine as well as to achieve the load voltage control. A feed-forward control sets the appropriate generator flux by taking into account the actual speed and the desired load voltage. A load voltage control loop is used to adjust the generated active power in order to sustain the load voltage at a reference value. The control system is based on a rotor flux oriented vector control technique which takes into account the machine saturation effect. The proposed control strategy and the adopted system models were validated both by numerical simulation and by experimental results obtained from a laboratory prototype. This paper is on an onshore variable speed wind turbine with doubly fed induction generator and under supervisory control. The control architecture is equipped with an event-based supervisor for the supervision level and fuzzy proportional integral or discrete adaptive linear quadratic as proposed controllers for the execution level. The supervisory control assesses the operational state of the variable speed wind turbine and sends the state to the execution level. Controllers operation are in the full load region to extract energy at full power from the wind while ensuring safety conditions required to inject the energy into the electric grid. A comparison between the simulations of the proposed controllers with the inclusion of the supervisory control on the variable speed wind turbine benchmark model is presented to assess advantages of these controls. Power converters play a vital role in the integration of wind power into the electrical grid. Variable-speed wind turbine generator systems have a considerable interest of application for grid connection at constant frequency. In this paper, comprehensive simulation studies are carried out with three power converter topologies: matrix, two-level and multilevel. A fractional-order control strategy is studied for the variable-speed operation of wind turbine generator systems. The studies are in order to compare power converter topologies and control strategies. The studies reveal that the multilevel converter and the proposed fractional-order control strategy enable an improvement in the power quality, in comparison with the other power converters using a classical integer-order control strategy. As wind power generation undergoes rapid growth, new technical challenges emerge: dynamic stability and power quality. The influence of wind speed disturbances and a pitch control malfunction on the quality of the energy injected into the electric grid is studied for variable-speed wind turbines with different power-electronic converter topologies. Additionally, a new control strategy is proposed for the variable-speed operation of wind turbines with permanent magnet synchronous generators. The performance of disturbance attenuation and system robustness is ascertained. Simulation results are presented and conclusions are duly drawn. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A fuzzy linguistic controller has been developed and implemented with the aim to cope with interactions between control loops due to coupling effects. To access the performance of the proposed approach several experiments have also been conducted using the classical PID controllers in the control loops. A mixing process has been used as test bed of all controllers experimented and the corresponding dynamic model has been derived. The successful results achieved with the fuzzy linguistic controllers suggests that they can be an alternative to classical controllers when in the presence of process plants where automatic control as to cope with coupling effects between control loops. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper presents new integrated model for variable-speed wind energy conversion systems, considering a more accurate dynamic of the wind turbine, rotor, generator, power converter and filter. Pulse width modulation by space vector modulation associated with sliding mode is used for controlling the power converters. Also, power factor control is introduced at the output of the power converters. Comprehensive performance simulation studies are carried out with matrix, two-level and multilevel power converter topologies in order to adequately assert the system performance. Conclusions are duly drawn.

This paper presents a new integrated model for the simulation of wind energy systems. The proposed model is more realistic and accurate, considering a variable-speed wind turbine, two-mass rotor, permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG), different power converter topologies, and filters. Additionally, a new control strategy is proposed for the variable-speed operation of wind turbines with PMSG/full-power converter topology, based on fractional-order controllers. This paper is on variable-speed wind turbines with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). Three different drive train mass models and three different topologies for the power-electronic converters are considered. The three different topologies considered are respectively a matrix, a two-level and a multilevel converter. A novel control strategy, based on fractional-order controllers, is proposed for the wind turbines. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the behaviour of the wind turbines during a converter control malfunction, considering the fractional-order controllers.
