Two base-mediated cascade rearrangement reactions of diallyl ethers were developed leading to selective [2,3]-Wittig–oxy-Cope and isomerization–Claisen rearrangements. Both diaryl and arylsilyl-substituted 1,3-substituted propenyl substrates were examined, and each exhibits unique reactivity and different reaction pathways. Detailed mechanistic and computational analysis was conducted, which demonstrated that the role of the base and solvent was key to the reactivity and selectivity observed. Crossover experiments also suggest that these reactions proceed with a certain degree of dissociation, and the mechanistic pathway is highly complex with multiple competing routes.

The title compound, [Ni2Cl2(C9H10NO2)(2)]center dot CH3OH, is a dinuclear unit built up by two nickel(II) complexes, bridged by two Cl atoms. The coordination geometry around each Ni-II atom can be considered as distorted square-pyramidal, with the tridendate chelate Schiff base ligands coordinating in a trans conformation through their imine N atom and phenoxy and alkoxy O atoms.

In [HgCl2(Pyp)](n) (Pyp = pyrazine, C4H4N2), chloride-bridged HgCl4/2 strands are connected into layers by pyrazine molecules. The Hg atom is on a site of symmetry 2/m, the unique Cl atom is on a mirror plane, the unique N atom is on a twofold rotation axis, and the unique C and H atoms are in general positions.

The crystal structure of [HgCl2(Pyo)](n) (Pyo = pyridazine, C4H4N2) consists of chloride-bridged strands of octahedrally coordinated mercuric centers, connected by the two neighboring N atoms of pyridazine molecules. All atoms lie in special positions:Hg with site symmetry 2/m and the others on mirror planes.

3-Allyl substituted five, six, and seven membered ring lactams are readily available in good yields and reasonable selectivity by a formal Meerwein Eschenmoser Claisen [3,3] rearrangement, using the readily available N,N-dialkylalkoxymethylene iminium salts and lithium alkoxides derived from allyl alcohols.

Enantiopure β-hydroxy sulfoxides and catechol sulfoxides were obtained, by chemoenzymatic synthesis, involving dioxygenase-catalysed benzylic hydroxylation or arene cis-dihydroxylation and cis-diol dehydrogenase-catalysed dehydrogenation. Absolute configurations of chiral hydroxy sulfoxides were determined by X-ray crystallography, ECD spectroscopy and stereochemical correlation. The application of a new range of β-hydroxy sulfoxides as chiral ligands was examined.
