This paper reports a dendritic system which is capable of forming both one-component and two-component gels interestingly the addition of the second component can either increase or decrease the degree of gelation, depending on dendritic generation.

One effective approach is to destroy industrial waste and pollution is the use of a semiconductor photocatalysis system. To date such, photocatalysis systems have employed conventional linear light sources. Initial results from a study of a photocatalysis system incorporating a tripled Nd:YAG laser are reported. The laser light not only played a roll as a light source for activating the photocatalyst(TiO2), but also destroyed the organic species directly via a photochemical process. The reaction intermediates and changes in their concentrations are monitored using HPLC. The relationship between the power of laser and kinetics of photoreaction are discussed.

Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is the most commonly used method for recovering energy from small sources of heat. The investigation of the ORC in supercritical condition is a new research area as it has a potential to generate high power and thermal efficiency in a waste heat recovery system. This paper presents a steady state ORC model in supercritical condition and its simulations with a real engine’s exhaust data. The key component of ORC, evaporator, is modelled using finite volume method, modelling of all other components of the waste heat recovery system such as pump, expander and condenser are also presented. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of mass flow rate and evaporator outlet temperature on the efficiency of the waste heat recovery process. Additionally, the necessity of maintaining an optimum evaporator outlet temperature is also investigated. Simulation results show that modification of mass flow rate is the key to changing the operating temperature at the evaporator outlet.

A series of porous organic cages is examined for the selective adsorption of sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) over nitrogen. Despite lacking any metal sites, a porous cage, CC3, shows the highest SF6/N2 selectivity reported for any material at ambient temperature and pressure, which translates to real separations in a gas breakthrough column. The SF6 uptake of these materials is considerably higher than would be expected from the static pore structures. The location of SF6 within these materials is elucidated by x-ray crystallography, and it is shown that cooperative diffusion and structural rearrangements in these molecular crystals can rationalize their superior SF6/N2 selectivity.

Epitaxial van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures of organic and layered materials are demonstrated to create high-performance organic electronic devices. High-quality rubrene films with large single-crystalline domains are grown on h-BN dielectric layers via vdW epitaxy. In addition, high carrier mobility comparable to free-standing single-crystal counterparts is achieved by forming interfacial electrical contacts with graphene electrodes.
