The last few years have seen a substantial increase in the geometric complexity for 3D flow simulation. In this paper we describe the challenges in generating computation grids for 3D aerospace configuations and demonstrate the progress made to eventually achieve a push button technology for CAD to visualized flow. Special emphasis is given to the interfacing from the grid generator to the flow solver by semi-automatic generation of boundary conditions during the grid generation process. In this regard, once a grid has been generated, push button technology of most commercial flow solvers has been achieved. This will be demonstrated by the ad hoc simulation for the Hopper configuration.

Methods for serial generation of droplets from a liquid jet are shortly reviewed. A method of liquid metal droplet generation based on AC high frequency magnetic field is considered in detail. Numerical model for direct simulation of the time dependent droplet generation process is presented. Computed examples demonstrate the liquid silicon droplet formation for the cases of 500-1500 μm diameter.

Nano-imprint forming (NIF) as manufacturing technology is ideally placed to enable high resolution, low-cost and high-throughput fabrication of three-dimensional fine structures and the packaging of heterogeneous micro-systems (S.Y. Chou and P.R. Krauss, 1997). This paper details a thermo-mechanical modelling methodology for optimising this process for different materials used in components such as mini-fluidics and bio-chemical systems, optoelectronics, photonics and health usage monitoring systems (HUMS). This work is part of a major UK Grand Challenge project - 3D-Mintegration - which is aiming to develop modelling and design technologies for the next generation of fabrication, assembly and test processes for 3D-miniaturised systems.
