Structure and luminescent investigation of the Ln(III)-beta-diketonate complexes containing tertiary amides

The synthesis and photoluminescent properties of Ln(III)-thenoyltrifluoroacetonate and dibenzoylmethanate complexes (Ln = Eu(III) and Gd(III) ions) containing tertiary amides such as dimethylacetamide (DMA), dimethylformamide (DMF), and dimethylbenzamide (DMB) as neutral ligands are reported. The Ln complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, complexometric titration with EDTA, and infrared spectroscopy. Single-crystal X-ray structure data of the [Eu(DBM)(3).(DMA)] compound indicates that this complex crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group PT with the following cell parameters: a = 10.2580(3) angstrom, b = 10.3843(2) angstrom, c= 22.3517(5) angstrom, alpha = 78.906(2)degrees, beta = 78.049(2)degrees, lambda= 63.239(2)degrees, V= 2066.41(9) angstrom(3), and Z = 2. The coordination polyhedron for the Eu(III) complex may be described as an approximate C-2v distorted monocapped trigonal prism. The optical properties of the Eu(III) complexes were studied based on the intensity parameters and luminescence quantum yield (q). The values of the ohm(2) parameter of the Eu-DBM complexes are larger than those for the Eu-TTA complexes, indicating that the Eu(III) ion is in a more polarizable chemical environment in the former case. The geometries of the complexes have been optimized by using the Sparkle Model, and the results have been used to perform theoretical predictions of the ligand-to-metal energy transfer via direct and exchange Coulomb mechanisms. CARBON MARKET AND INSTITUTIONS: OPPORTUNITIES IN THE SEARCH OF A NEW MODEL FOR DEVELOPMENT

Seeking alternatives for the economic system to face the several crises it has gone through lately (electrical power, cultural, financing and technological) brought about a new market involving the Kyoto Protocol signatory countries: the carbon market. The present article aims at assessing the carbon market institutional issue in Brazil by identifying the risks and opportunities inherent to the institutional agent characteristics and to that market rules. The research methodology was bibliographic and based on the analysis of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil (Comissao de Valores Mobiliarios and Bolsa Mercantil de Valores) contents. Its theoretical basis rests on concepts of the institution and the new institutional economy. The results show that in spite of the risks and institutional problems it involves, the carbon market is promising due to the opportunities create by new technologies and energies developed to achieve and sustain the capitalist system new cycle, addressed to produce a clean development.

Study of the vertical transport in p-doped superlattices based on group III-V semiconductors

The electrical conductivity σ has been calculated for p-doped GaAs/Al0.3Ga0.7As and cubic GaN/Al0.3Ga0.7N thin superlattices (SLs). The calculations are done within a self-consistent approach to the k → ⋅ p → theory by means of a full six-band Luttinger-Kohn Hamiltonian, together with the Poisson equation in a plane wave representation, including exchange correlation effects within the local density approximation. It was also assumed that transport in the SL occurs through extended minibands states for each carrier, and the conductivity is calculated at zero temperature and in low-field ohmic limits by the quasi-chemical Boltzmann kinetic equation. It was shown that the particular minibands structure of the p-doped SLs leads to a plateau-like behavior in the conductivity as a function of the donor concentration and/or the Fermi level energy. In addition, it is shown that the Coulomb and exchange-correlation effects play an important role in these systems, since they determine the bending potential.

AVALIAÇÃO DAS COLEÇÕES DE PERIÓDICOS RECEBIDOS CORRENTEMENTE POR DOAÇÃO E PERMUTA, EM UMA BIBLIOTECA ESPECIALIZADA EM MEDICINA TROPICAL

Considerando-se a importância de se fazer conhecer as permutas e as doações recebidas pela Biblioteca do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, definiu-se como universo de pesquisa a avaliação das coleções de periódicos nacionais e internacionais, recebidas correntemente, e incorporadas ao acervo. Verificou-se, através dessas coleções, que o acervo possui uma boa representatividade das necessidades de informação da comunidade, mesmo sendo uma Biblioteca Especializada em Medicina Tropical. Identificou- se, dentre os periódicos recebidos, o número de doações e permutas, os assuntos predominantes, a procedência, o fator de impacto e as indexações. Procurou-se, também, conhecer a opinião dos usuários, quanto a seu interesse em relação aos títulos recebidos. 1
