The quality of plastic films used for horizontal silos is important to limit losses in the upper silage layer. The aim of this work was to study the effectiveness of different plastic films in reducing the top losses in maize silage. The following treatments were evaluated: (i) coextruded polyethylene/polyamide oxygen barrier film (OB), (ii) polyethylene film (PE), (iii) polyvinyl chloride film (PVC), and (iv) coextruded PE/polyvinyl alcohol film (PVOH). These treatments differed according to oxygen permeability with values of 75, 722, 982 and 289 cm(3) m(-2) per 24 hour respectively. OB and PVOH films had better temperature and fermentation profiles than the more permeable films. The OB film was effective in reducing the dry-matter (DM) losses during storage (82 g kg(-1)), and the PVOH film had an intermediate value of DM loss (101 g kg(-1)). PE and PVC films had higher losses (138 and 145 g kg(-1) respectively). Oxygen permeability of the films promoted a positive correlation with DM losses (P < 0.05; r2 = 0.945). The results indicate that O2 permeability through the plastic film is a crucial factor for maintaining silage quality in the upper layer of the silo when it is perfectly sealed.

We propose a novel mathematical approach for the calculation of near-zero energy states by solving potentials which are isospectral with the original one. For any potential, families of strictly isospectral potentials (with very different shape) having desirable and adjustable features are generated by supersymmetric isospectral formalism. The near-zero energy Efimov state in the original potential is effectively trapped in the deep well of the isospectral family and facilitates more accurate calculation of the Efimov state. Application to the first excited state in He-4 trimer is presented.

In this work, we present a supersymmetric extension of the quantum spherical model, both in components and also in the superspace formalisms. We find the solution for short- and long-range interactions through the imaginary time formalism path integral approach. The existence of critical points (classical and quantum) is analyzed and the corresponding critical dimensions are determined.

By computing the two-loop effective potential of the D=3 N=1 supersymmetric Chern-Simons model minimally coupled to a massless self-interacting matter superfield, it is shown that supersymmetry is preserved, while the internal U(1) and the scale symmetries are broken at two-loop order, dynamically generating masses both for the gauge superfield and for the real component of the matter superfield.

Background: The identification of useful quality indicators for nutrition therapy (QINTs) is of great interest and a challenge. This study attempted to identify the 10 QINTs that best suit the practice of quality control in nutrition therapy (NT) by evaluating the opinion of experts in NT with the use of psychometric techniques and statistical tools. Methods: Thirty-six QINTs available for clinical application in Brazil were assessed in 2 distinct phases. In phase 1, 26 nutrition experts ranked QINTs by scoring 4 attributes (utility, simplicity, objectivity, low cost) to assess each QINT on a 5-point Likert scale. The top 10 QINTs were identified from the 10 best scores obtained, and the reliability of expert opinion for each indicator was assessed by Cronbach's alpha. In phase 2, experts provided feedback regarding the selected top 10 QINTs by answering 2 closed questions. Results: The top 10 QINTs, in descending order, are the frequency of nutrition screening of hospitalized patients, diarrhea, involuntary withdrawal of enteral feeding tubes, feeding tube obstruction, fasting longer than 24 hours, glycemic dysfunction, estimated energy expenditure and protein needs, central venous catheter infection, compliance of NT indication, and frequency of application of subjective global assessment. Opinions were consistent among the interviewed experts. During feedback, 96% of experts were satisfied with the top 10 QINTs, and 100% had considered them in accordance with their previous opinion. Conclusion: The top 10 QINTs were identified according to their usefulness in clinical practice by obtaining adequate agreement and representativeness of opinion of nutrition experts. In the CP-violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, we study the production of a neutralino-chargino pair at the LHC. For their decays into three leptons, we analyze CP asymmetries which are sensitive to the CP phases of the neutralino and chargino sector. We present analytical formulas for the entire production and decay process, and identify the CP-violating contributions in the spin correlation terms. This allows us to define the optimal CP asymmetries. We present a detailed numerical analysis of the cross sections, branching ratios, and the CP observables. For light neutralinos, charginos, and squarks, the asymmetries can reach several 10%. We estimate the discovery potential for the LHC to observe CP violation in the trilepton channel.

In Kantor and Trishin (1997) [3], Kantor and Trishin described the algebra of polynomial invariants of the adjoint representation of the Lie superalgebra gl(m vertical bar n) and a related algebra A, of what they called pseudosymmetric polynomials over an algebraically closed field K of characteristic zero. The algebra A(s) was investigated earlier by Stembridge (1985) who in [9] called the elements of A(s) supersymmetric polynomials and determined generators of A(s). The case of positive characteristic p of the ground field K has been recently investigated by La Scala and Zubkov (in press) in [6]. We extend their work and give a complete description of generators of polynomial invariants of the adjoint action of the general linear supergroup GL(m vertical bar n) and generators of A(s).
