In this paper we present the development and the implementation of a content analysis model for observing aspects relating to the social mission of the public library on Facebook pages and websites. The model is unique and it was developed from the literature. There were designed the four categories for analysis Generate social capital and social cohesion, Consolidate democracy and citizenship, Social and digital inclusion and Fighting illiteracies. The model enabled the collection and the analysis of data applied to a case study consisting of 99 Portuguese public libraries with Facebook page. With this model of content analysis we observed the facets of social mission and we read the actions with social facets on the Facebook page and in the websites of public libraries. At the end we discuss in parallel the results of observation of the Facebook of libraries and the websites. By reading the description of the actions of the social mission, the general conclusion and the most immediate is that 99 public libraries on Facebook and websites rarely publish social character actions, and the results are little satisfying. The Portuguese public libraries highlight substantially the actions in the category Generate social capital and social cohesion.

ABSTRACT; The emergent technology, social and environmental issues are making the science teaching a huge challenge. The shortage and the contamination of water, as result of anthropogenic activities, are faced today like a future problem. This theme is part of the Chemistry subject curriculum of the eleventh grade level and it inspired a didactic intervention based upon a problem solving methodology that can be framed in a STSE approach. The goals of the proposed intervention, taking Mina de S. Domingos for a field trip, meant to improve the students' learnings and to promote a change of attitudes in relation to the environment and to the water consumption, in particular. The collected data, analyzed according to qualitative and quantitative methods, showed better knowledge and more favorable attitudes towards Science and Physics and Chemistry, as well as regarding the environment and water consumption, enhancing the importance of this kind of approach.

This study presents a review of new instruments for the impact assessment of libraries and a case study of the evaluation impact of the Library of the Faculty of Science, University of Porto (FCUP), from the students’ point of view. We con ducted a mixed methods research, i.e., which includes both qualitative data, to describe characteristics, in particular human actions, and quantitative data, represented by numbers that indicate exact amounts which can be statistically manipulated. Applying International Standard ISO16439:2014 (E) - Information and documentation - Methods and procedures for assessing the impact of libraries, we collected, 20 opinion texts from students of different nationalities, published in «Notícias da Biblioteca», from January 2013 to December 2014 and have conducted seven interviews.
