SEMINAR ON CENTRAL CONCLUSIONS MANIFESTS IFLA-UNESCO FOR PUBLIC LIBRARY, SCHOOL AND INTERNET

Central America is a region with accumulated experiences of collaborative work in developing the Central Library, among them are: The CSUCA (Council of Central American Universities) globally recognized organization founded in 1948 has strengthened the development of University Libraries, with the creation of the Central American University Libraries. Another significant contribution is made by the Public Libraries and supported by SIDA (Swedish International Development Agency) has substantially expanded the concept of National Public Library. Today is forming the Confederation of Associations and Colleges Central Library, a product of the Workshop held in El Salvador, with the support of IFLA / ALP.

PROPUESTA PARA LA CREACIÓN DE UNA BIBLIOTECA VIRTUAL EN LA UNIVERSIDAD LATINOAMERICANA DE CIENCIA Y TECNOLOGÍA ULACIT

La Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología (ULACIT) es una universidad privada que fomenta el desarrollo de la ciencia y la tecnología entre sus estudiantes. Además, ULACIT participa en el proceso de acreditación nacional ante SINAES” (Sistema Nacional para la Acreditación de la Educación Superior).Pese a esto y conscientes de la importancia que conlleva una buena biblioteca en una institución de educación superior, se ha visto que la biblioteca de esta Universidad no reúne las condiciones necesarias para responder a las demandas y exigencias que el usuario de hoy requiere de ellas. Por lo contrario, se carece de tecnología actualizada para prestar servicios documentales de información y de interacción académica, que se ajuste a los propósitos de la institución.

CONSORCIOS DE BIBLIOTECAS UNIVERSITARIAS CENTROAMERICANAS: REDSIID

Con el fin de participar en el debate que sobre consorcios se ha generado en la actualidad, se presenta en este documento una descripción de la experiencia de lo actuado en la Red de Sistemas Integrados de Información Documental de las Universidades miembros del Consejo Superior Universitario Centroamericano REDSIID/CSUCA; la cual pretende ser un consorcio académico bibliotecológico. Estructura de cooperación que podría favorecer a la región centroamericana.La globalización ha generado un estado de confrontación entre las corrientes de pensamiento. La formación académica tiende a ser más horizontal dejando de lado las élites intelectuales. Sin embargo, esa horizontalidad, que permite igualdad de acceso a todos los grupos sociales y a todos los niveles culturales, transgrede las identidades locales y a las universidades. La misma autonomía universitaria pareciera perder vigencia, para ampliar los espacios de convivencia y retroalimentación comunitaria; uno de ellos, establecer vínculos universidad-empresa. Consecuentemente, el modelo universitario debe reconceptualizar sus procesos, entre ellos: el acceso a la información, el acceso al conocimiento y el acceso al aprendizaje.

Information Literacy in Costa Rican Universities. Viewing Levels of Incorporation from the Information Published on the Websites of their Libraries

Training in information competencies or information literacy is one of the current challenges of university libraries at the possibilities of access to vast information resources that facilitate digital media, which require a better understand and apply the selection and assessment criteria to retrieval the highest quality and relevance of information as needed. In this situation, Ibero-American university libraries (Latin-America, Spain and Portugal) have been slowly incorporating this training either from direct training programs, offered from the library or through collaborative work with teachers and schools in curricula of various universities as a whole or in specific disciplines. In this text, it was identified that, at present, from the information displayed on Web sites of universities-HEI in Costa Rica, a very small percentage of university libraries would find taking actions in a level 1 or 2 of incorporating information literacy, since a large most developed is still very focused programs and processes to the traditional user training, while another large majority, unfortunately, has no action-information about actions from the forming perspective that should be any library.

It is a matter of pride that Costa Rica and the National University, both with extensive experience in the development of library we are the headquarters for the first time, an event that brings together three different activities on this theme: the Central American Seminar, Workshops and Standing Committee of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, which will strengthen the monitoring and Manifestos on Public Libraries, Schools and Internet IFLA-UNESCO. Teaching Communications, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities with Multimedia: A University-Middle School Service-Learning Project

Se describe el uso de tecnología en forma de presentaciones de multimedia para facilitar la enseñanza de las Normas para el Aprendizaje de una Lengua Extranjera del Concilio Americano para la Enseñanza de Lenguas extranjeras. Las normas abarcan las comunicaciones, las culturas, las conexiones, las comparaciones y las comunidades. El estudiantado universitario aprende a crear, con multimedia, presentaciones sobre un tema cultural en la lengua meta. El componente de aprendizaje por servicio comunitario se fundamenta en las presentaciones creadas para estudiantes de colegio, quienes tienen acceso a las presentaciones en un sitio web de la universidad.A description is provided of how the use of technology in the form of multimedia presentations enhances the teaching of the Five C Standards for Foreign Language Learning of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages: communications, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. University students learn to create multimedia presentations on a cultural topic in the target language. The service-learning component provides the multimedia presentations for middle-school students who access them from the university website.
