This article summarizes the main findings of a research on literacy made with immigrant Nicaraguan men and women workers residing in Costa Rica, specifically with parents from students at the Gonzalo Monge School in Pital, San Carlos. In this investigation, the more relevant motives for these Nicaraguan immigrants to come to Costa Rica are established. In addition, some of their needs living in this country are stipulated as well as the role of informal education in their lives. It is clearly important to design a literacy proposal on informal education that allows immigrant Nicaraguan men and women workers to prepare and educate for life and work. According to the Project for Latin America and the Caribbean, Education for Everyone program, education is understood as one basic need of the person: every person –child, young or adult- must have the basic opportunity of taking advantage of education. These needs include not only essential tools for learning (such as reading, writing, learning problems…), but also basic learning contents required for human beings to: survive, develop their capacities, live and work with dignity, fully participate on development, improve the quality of their lives, take their fundamental decisions and continue learning.

In this paper about Psychology of Education, I propose to distinguish the educational work centered in the instruction-evaluation relationship, which, following the structuralist Barthes, I’m understanding as an education based on critical truthfulness, from an educational work trying to recover all language possibilities, understood as literalization, that is, the appropriation by the educational subjects of a logos that the educational instruction-evaluation has robbed them of..

In the current context of education, parents, students, teachers, media and other sectors of Costa Rican society, express concern about the problem of school violence, a social phenomenon that has been increasing in recent years. Its manifestations are perceived by means of abuse behavior, intimidation, verbal or physical abuse among youth, which are constructed through cultural practices. Therefore, to understand this problem, reflection about possible causes is in order, taking into account the context in which social interaction is developed in each school. Some of the manifestations of violence are rooted in the family, the community, the imitation of the behavioral patterns, and the influence of mass media. Moreover, these behaviors are reinforced by the current curriculum model, generating resistance to institutional rules.

There are several conceptual approaches that are far from creating a pedagogy of interculturalism, specially when interculturalism is valued as a philosophy, which requires the development of a new teacher who is not only capable of recycling him/herself but who is also aware of the paradigmatic changes that interculturalism demands. The article presents an approach to the theoretical components for the understanding of intercultural pedagogy as an educational practice. It begins with a brief presentation of the current educational system, followed by the interpretation of human rights as a fundamental issue of human diversity, and certain approaches and clarification models for interculturalism in elementary school. They came from 9 elementary schools located in marginal communities, developed by a team of two school counselors whose main purpose was to encourage among the participants the development of skills that will let them design and apply activities in the field of “parents’ school”. Thus, an educational counseling proposal has been modeled in order to reach greater coverage and efficiency of the counseling work with families being done from within the school. Moreover, what’s being sought is the promotion of healthy family relationships that contribute to the family’s wholeness and well being and therefore to the appropriate academic and social development of their children.

In this essay it is stated that for superior education to transcend, it must develop from within the idea that love is the fundamental reference of life, and it must potentiate this essence, beyond what is external and apparent and beyond the isolated subjects of the curricula, which many times are no more than words and proposals on paper, which far from germinating humanity, lead to its extinction. It involves a vision of Universal Love that considers art as a way of expression and encounter.
