(Excerto) A construção da maternidade como o acto paradigmático de cuidado adequado deve ser vista como uma construção cultural específica. É comum conceber o cuidado como uma relação entre duas pessoas e especialmente como uma relação entre mãe e filho. Como observa Joan Tronto, uma tal compreensão conduziu frequentemente à idealização deste duo que se converteu numa espécie de casal romântico no discurso contemporâneo ocidental sobre a maternidade (Tronto, 1993, pp. 103, 109-110). A ênfase ideológica na díade mãe/filho subsiste, não obstante revestir-se de novos cambiantes e ser paralela à valorização da paternidade reflectida numa diversidade de estudos (e.g. Monteiro & Domingos, 2013; Torres, 2002) e nas práticas sociais.

The barrier effect and the performance of an organic–inorganic hybrid (OIH) sol–gel coating are highlydependent on the coating deposition method as well as processing conditions. In this work, studies onthe influence of experimental parameters using the dip coating method were performed. Factors suchas residence time (Rt), a curing step between each dip step and the number of layers of sol–gel OIHfilms deposited on HDGS to prevent corrosion in highly alkaline environments were studied. These OIHcoatings were obtained using a functionalized siloxane, 3-isociantepropyltriethoxysilane that reactedwith a diamino-functionalized oligopolymer (Jeffamine®D-230). The barrier efficiency of OIH coatings insimulated concrete pore solutions (SCPS) was assessed in the first moments of contact, by electrochemicalimpedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic methods. The durability and stability of the OIH coatings inSCPS was monitored during eight days by macrocell current density. The morphological characterizationof the surface was performed by scanning electronic microscopy before and after exposure to SCPS.Glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy was used to obtain quantitative composition profiles toinvestigate the thickness of the OIH coatings as a function of the number of layers deposited and theinfluence of the Rt in the coating thickness.

Organic-inorganic hybrid (OIH) sol-gel coatings based on ureasilicates (U(X)) have promising properties for use as eco-friendly coatings on hot dip galvanized steel (HDGS) and may be considered potential substitutes for pre-treatment systems containing Cr(VI). These OIH coatings reduce corrosion activity during the initial stages of contact of the HDGS samples with highly alkaline environments (cementitious media) and allow the mitigation of harmful effects of an initial excessive reaction between cement pastes and the zinc layer. However, the behavior of HDGS coated with U(X) in the presence of chloride ions has never been reported. In this paper, the performance of HDGS coated with five different U(X) coatings was assessed by electrochemical measurements in chloride-contaminated simulated concrete pore solution (SCPS). U(X) sol-gel coatings were produced and deposited on HDGS by a dip coating method. The coatings performance was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization curves measurements, macrocell current density and polarization resistance in contact with chloride-contaminated SCPS. The SEM/EDS analyses of the coatings before and after the tests were also performed. The results showed that the HDGS samples coated with the OIH coatings exhibited enhanced corrosion resistance to chloride ions when compared to uncoated galvanized steel.

Noble metal powders containing gold and silver have been used for many centuries, providing different colours in the windows of the medieval cathedrals and in ancient Roman glasses. Nowadays, the interest in nanocomposite materials containing noble nanoparticles embedded in dielectric matrices is related with their potential use for a wide range of advanced technological applications. They have been proposed for environmental and biological sensing, tailoring colour of functional coatings, or for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy. Most of these applications rely on the so-called localised surface plasmon resonance absorption, which is governed by the type of the noble metal nanoparticles, their distribution, size and shape and as well as of the dielectric characteristics of the host matrix. The aim of this work is to study the influence of the composition and thermal annealing on the morphological and structural changes of thin films composed of Ag metal clusters embedded in a dielectric TiO2 matrix. Since changes in size, shape and distribution of the clusters are fundamental parameters for tailoring the properties of plasmonic materials, a set of films with different Ag concentrations was prepared. The optical properties and the thermal behaviour of the films were correlated with the structural and morphological changes promoted by annealing. The films were deposited by DC magnetron sputtering and in order to promote the clustering of the Ag nanoparticles the as-deposited samples were subjected to an in-air annealing protocol. It was demonstrated that the clustering of metallic Ag affects the optical response spectrum and the thermal behaviour of the films.

Nanocomposite thin films consisting of a dielectric matrix, such as titanium oxide (TiO2), with embedded gold (Au) nanoparticles were prepared and will be analysed and discussed in detail in the present work. The evolution of morphological and structural features was studied for a wide range of Au concentrations and for annealing treatments in air, for temperatures ranging from 200 to 800 °C. Major findings revealed that for low Au atomic concentrations (at.%), there are only traces of clustering, and just for relatively high annealing temperatures, T ≥ 500 °C. Furthermore, the number of Au nanoparticles is extremely low, even for the highest annealing temperature, T = 800 °C. It is noteworthy that the TiO2 matrix also crystallizes in the anatase phase for annealing temperatures above 300 °C. For intermediate Au contents (5 at.% ≤ CAu ≤ 15 at.%), the formation of gold nanoclusters was much more evident, beginning at lower annealing temperatures (T ≥ 200 °C) with sizes ranging from 2 to 25 nm as the temperature increased. A change in the matrix crystallization from anatase to rutile was also observed in this intermediate range of compositions. For the highest Au concentrations (> 20 at.%), the films tended to form relatively larger clusters, with sizes above 20 nm (for T ≥ 400 °C). It is demonstrated that the structural and morphological characteristics of the films are strongly affected by the annealing temperature, as well as by the particular amounts, size and distribution of the Au nanoparticles dispersed in the TiO2 matrix.

In this work, the thermal stability of TiAgx thin films, deposited by magnetron sputtering, was evaluated, envisaging their application in biomedical devices, namely as electrodes for biosignal acquisition. Based on the composition and microstructural characterization, a set of four representative TiAgx thin films was selected in order to infer whether they are thermally stable in terms of functional properties. In order to achieve this purpose, the structural and morphological evolution of the films with annealing temperature was correlated with their electrical, mechanical and thermal properties. Two distinct zones were identified and two samples from each zone were extensively analysed. In the first zone (zone I), Ti was the main component (Ti-rich zone) while in the second, zone II, the Ag content was more significant. The selected samples were annealed in vacuum at four different temperatures up to 500 oC. For the samples produced within zone I, small microstructural changes were observed due to the recrystallization of the Ti structure and grain size increment. Also, no significant changes were observed with annealing temperature regarding the f l ’ functional properties, being thermally stable up to 500 oC. For higher Ag contents (zone II) the energy supplied by thermal treatments was sufficient to activate the crystallization of Ti-Ag intermetallic phases. A strong increase of the grain size of these phases was also reported. The structural and morphological organization proved to be determinant for the physical responses of the TiAgx system. The hardness and Y g’s modulus were significantly improved with the formation of the intermetallic phases. The silver addition and annealing treatments also played an important role in the electrical conductivity of the films, which was once again improved by the formation of Ti-Ag phases. The thermal diffusivity of the films was practically unchanged with the heat-treatment. This set of results shows that this intermetallic-like thin film system has good thermal stability up to high temperatures (as high as 500 oC), which in case of the highest Ag content zone is particularly evident for electrical and mechanical properties, showing an important improvement. Hardness increases about three times, while resistivity values become half of those from the lowest Ag contents zone. These set of characteristics are consistent with the targeted applications, namely in terms of biomedical sensing devices.

As micotoxinas são metabolitos secundários tóxicos produzidos por certos fungos, sendo a ocratoxina A (OTA) das mais importantes. A presença de OTA nos vinhos pode constituir um risco para a saúde dos consumidores, sendo por isso aconselhado que se tomem medidas para atingir níveis seguros para o consumo humano [1]. De acordo com o Regulamento n.º 1881/2006 da Comissão Europeia, o limite máximo para a OTA em vinho é de 2 µg/kg [2]. Sendo assim, foi objetivo deste trabalho conhecer a eficiência de diferentes produtos enológicos na remoção de OTA de vinhos, bem como o seu impacto nas suas características organoléticas. Foram testados onze produtos enológicos diferentes, com origem mineral, sintética, microbiana, vegetal e animal, de forma a avaliar a sua eficiência na remoção de OTA de vinhos. Os ensaios foram realizados em vinhos artificialmente suplementados com OTA numa concentração final de 10 µg/L. O produto enológico mais eficiente na remoção de OTA do vinho branco (80%) é composto por gelatina, bentonite e carvão ativado. Reduções entre 10-30% foram também obtidas com o caseinato de potássio, paredes de células de levedura e proteína de ervilha. Com a aplicação de bentonite, carboximetilcelulose, polivinilpolipirrolidona e quitosana não se verificou nenhuma remoção considerável de OTA dos vinhos brancos. Estes resultados podem fornecer informações úteis para os produtores de vinho, ajudando-os na seleção do produto enológico mais adequado para a remoção de OTA de vinhos brancos, reduzindo a toxicidade do vinho e melhorando simultaneamente a segurança alimentar e qualidade do produto final.

A presença de micotoxinas em alimentos é uma preocupação ao nível da segurança alimentar. Contudo, os vinhos não são exceção podendo também estar contaminados com micotoxinas, especialmente ocratoxina A (OTA) [1]. Como estas substâncias tóxicas não podem ser completamente removidas da cadeia alimentar, muitos países definiram limites legais nos alimentos, com o intuito de aumentar a segurança alimentar. Assim, o limite máximo aceitável de OTA em vinhos é de 2,0 µg/kg de acordo com o regulamento da Comissão nº 1881/2006 [2]. A fim de reduzir os níveis de OTA para valores mais seguros, vários produtos enológicos foram estudados. Foi objetivo deste estudo avaliar a eficácia de produtos compostos por carvão ativado na redução de OTA presente em vinhos, bem como o seu impacto nas características finais do vinho. Foram testados oito carvões ativados diferentes, sendo um deles um produto composto por uma formulação comercial de gelatina, bentonite e carvão ativado, na dose máxima recomendada pelo fabricante. Os ensaios foram realizados em vinhos artificialmente suplementadas com OTA numa concentração final de 10 µg/L. Os resultados mostraram que a mistura comercial composta por gelatina, bentonite e carvão ativado reduziu 73% da concentração inicial de OTA em vinho branco. Contudo, verificou-se que todos os carvões ativados, exceto um, reduziu a concentração inicial de OTA em 100%. Estes resultados podem fornecer informações valiosas para os produtores de vinho, permitindo-lhes escolher o carvão ativado mais adequado para a remoção de OTA, aumentando a segurança e qualidade do produto final.
