In this two-part series of papers, a generalized non-orthogonal amplify and forward (GNAF) protocol which generalizes several known cooperative diversity protocols is proposed. Transmission in the GNAF protocol comprises of two phases - the broadcast phase and the cooperation phase. In the broadcast phase, the source broadcasts its information to the relays as well as the destination. In the cooperation phase, the source and the relays together transmit a space-time code in a distributed fashion. The GNAF protocol relaxes the constraints imposed by the protocol of Jing and Hassibi on the code structure. In Part-I of this paper, a code design criteria is obtained and it is shown that the GNAF protocol is delay efficient and coding gain efficient as well. Moreover GNAF protocol enables the use of sphere decoders at the destination with a non-exponential Maximum likelihood (ML) decoding complexity. In Part-II, several low decoding complexity code constructions are studied and a lower bound on the Diversity-Multiplexing Gain tradeoff of the GNAF protocol is obtained.

Time-domain-finite-wave analysis of the engine exhaust system is usually done using the method of characteristics. This makes use of either the moving frame method, or the stationary frame method. The stationary frame method is more convenient than its counterpart inasmuch as it avoids the tedium of graphical computations. In this paper (part I), the stationary-frame computational scheme along with the boundary conditions has been implemented. The analysis of a uniform tube, cavity-pipe junction including the engine and the radiation ends, and also the simple area discontinuities has been presented. The analysis has been done accounting for wall friction and heat-transfer for a one-dimensional unsteady flow. In the process, a few inconsistencies in the formulations reported in the literature have been pointed out and corrected. In the accompanying paper (part II) results obtained from the simulation are shown to be in good agreement with the experimental observations.

Time-domain-finite-wave analysis of engine exhaust systems is usually carried out by means of the method of characteristics. The theory and the computational details of the stationary-frame method have been worked out in the accompanying paper (part I). In this paper (part II), typical computed results are given and discussed. A setup designed for experimental corroboration is described. The results obtained from the simulation are found to be in good agreement with experimental observations.

The mathematical model for diffuse fluorescence spectroscopy/imaging is represented by coupled partial differential equations (PDEs), which describe the excitation and emission light propagation in soft biological tissues. The generic closed-form solutions for these coupled PDEs are derived in this work for the case of regular geometries using the Green's function approach using both zero and extrapolated boundary conditions. The specific solutions along with the typical data types, such as integrated intensity and the mean time of flight, for various regular geometries were also derived for both time-and frequency-domain cases. In this paper, for the first time, the key design parameters of a shallow trench isolation-based drain-extended MOS transistor are discussed for RF power applications in advanced CMOS technologies. The tradeoff between various dc and RF figures of merit (FoMs) is carefully studied using well-calibrated TCAD simulations. This detailed physical insight is used to optimize the dc and RF behavior, and our work also provides a design window for the improvement of dc as well as RF FoMs, without affecting the breakdown voltage. An improvement of 50% in R-ON and 45% in RF gain is achieved at 1 GHz. Large-signal time-domain analysis is done to explore the output power capability of the device.
