Effect of vitamin A deprivation on the cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme activity of testes and ovaries of rats (Short Communication)

The cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme activity is decreased considerably at the mild stage of vitamin A deficiency in rat testes and ovaries and the decrease in activity becomes more pronounced with progress of deficiency. Supplementation of the deficient rats with retinyl acetate, but not retinoic acid, restores the enzyme activity to normal values. The cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme of adrenals is not affected by any of the above treatments.

Effect of fourier domain quantization on matched filtering

It is shown that the use of a coarsely quantized binary digital hologram as a matched filter on an optical computer does not degrade signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) appreciably.

Some investigations on secondary breakdown in p-n junctions considering the effect of thermally generated carriers

The V-I characteristic of a p-n junction under breakdown is calculated taking the thermally generated carriers into account. The current density distributions computed under different conditions have been given. The light emission and other characteristics reported by Chiang and Lauritzen and others have been explained.

Optimal threshold policies for admission control in communication networks via discrete parameter stochastic approximation

The problem of admission control of packets in communication networks is studied in the continuous time queueing framework under different classes of service and delayed information feedback. We develop and use a variant of a simulation based two timescale simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA) algorithm for finding an optimal feedback policy within the class of threshold type policies. Even though SPSA has originally been designed for continuous parameter optimization, its variant for the discrete parameter case is seen to work well. We give a proof of the hypothesis needed to show convergence of the algorithm on our setting along with a sketch of the convergence analysis. Extensive numerical experiments with the algorithm are illustrated for different parameter specifications. In particular, we study the effect of feedback delays on the system performance.

Experimental Verification of the Lateral Periodicity of Axially Periodic Incoherent Fields Using the Lau Effect

General' objects, which are specially prepared to possess restricted spatial frequency spectra, have been used in the conventional Lau experiment to obtain experimental proof for the existence of lateral periodicity arising from axial periodicity, for a subclass of axially periodic wavefields in an incoherent situation.
