Enantiospecific first total synthesis of the angular triquinane sesquiterpene (65,7R)-silphiperfolan-6-ol has been accomplished, starting from 2-(3-isopropenyl-2-methylene-1-methylcyclopent-1-yl)acetic acid (readily available from (R)-limonene) employing an efficient, regioselective intramolecular rhodium carbenoid insertion into the CH bond of a tertiary methyl group as the key step. Enantiospecific total synthesis of the crinipellin mentioned in the title was accomplished. In the present synthesis cyclopentane ring in campholenaldehyde was identified as the B-ring, two intramolecular rhodium carbenoid CH insertion reactions were employed for the construction of the A and C rings, and an intramolecular Michael addition reaction was utilized for the construction of the D-ring of crinipellin. The enantiospecific total synthesis of silphiperfol-6-ene has been accomplished starting from the readily available monoterpene (R)-limonene, employing a rhodium carbenoid insertion into the CH bond of a tertiary methyl group. A substrate dependent competitive insertion of the rhodium carbenoid in the gamma- and beta-CH bonds to form cyclopentanone and cyclobutanones, respectively, has been described. An enantiospecific total synthesis of polyhydroxy delta-pyrone natural product phomopsolide B is accomplished. The main feature of the synthesis is the installation of the required E-olefin by Horner-Emmons-Wordsworth reaction and the formation of the lactone involving Still-Gennari olefination followed by lactonization. For a fixed positive integer k, a k-tuple total dominating set of a graph G = (V. E) is a subset T D-k of V such that every vertex in V is adjacent to at least k vertices of T Dk. In minimum k-tuple total dominating set problem (MIN k-TUPLE TOTAL DOM SET), it is required to find a k-tuple total dominating set of minimum cardinality and DECIDE MIN k-TUPLE TOTAL DOM SET is the decision version of MIN k-TUPLE TOTAL DOM SET problem. In this paper, we show that DECIDE MIN k-TUPLE TOTAL DOM SET is NP-complete for split graphs, doubly chordal graphs and bipartite graphs. For chordal bipartite graphs, we show that MIN k-TUPLE TOTAL DOM SET can be solved in polynomial time. We also propose some hardness results and approximation algorithms for MIN k-TUPLE TOTAL DOM SET problem. (c) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

This paper reports the fabrication and characterization of an ultrafast laser written Er-doped chalcogenide glass buried waveguide amplifier; Er-doped GeGaS glass has been synthesized by the vacuum sealed melt quenching technique. Waveguides have been fabricated inside the 4 mm long sample by direct ultrafast laser writing. The total passive fiber-to-fiber insertion loss is 2.58 +/- 0.02 dB at 1600 nm, including a propagation loss of 1.6 +/- 0.3 dB. Active characterization shows a relative gain of 2.524 +/- 0.002 dB/cm and 1.359 +/- 0.005 dB/cm at 1541 nm and 1550 nm respectively, for a pump power of 500 mW at a wavelength of 980 nm. With the objective of investigating the direct conversion of inorganic carbonates such as CaCO3 to hydrocarbons, assisted by transition metal ions, we have carried out studies on CaCO3 in an intimate admixture with iron oxides (FeCaCO) with a wide range of Fe/Ca mole ratios (x), prepared by co-precipitation. The hydrogen reduction of FeCaCO at 673 K gives up to 23% yield of the hydrocarbons CH4, C2H4, C2H6 and C3H8, leaving solid iron residues in the form of iron metal, oxides and carbide particles. The yield of hydrocarbons increases with x and the conversion of hydrocarbons occurs through the formation of CO. While the total yield of hydrocarbons obtained by us is comparable to that in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, the selectivity for C-2-C-3 hydrocarbons reported here is noteworthy.

The total synthesis of new indole alkaloids henrycinol A and B were accomplished starting from L-tryptophan methyl ester. The key step is a stereochemically flexible Pictet-Spengler reaction governed by the presence or absence of an N-allyl group in the tryptophan precursor. The natural products henrycinol A and B were synthesized in good overall yield in eight and nine steps, respectively. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Lagunamides, isolated from a marine cyanobacterium Lyngbya majuscule found in Singapore, showed very potent activities against Plasmodium falciparum and murine leukemia cell line (P388). Herein, a concise synthetic approach toward the total synthesis of a lagunamide B analogue is discussed. Macrolactonization, HWE-olefination, and modified Crimmin's aldol are some of the key reactions featured in this synthesis. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic composites were fabricated through vacuum resin infusion technology by adopting two different processing conditions, viz., vacuum only in the first and vacuum plus external pressure in the next, in order to generate two levels of void-bearing samples. They were relatively graded as higher and lower void-bearing ones, respectively. Microscopy and C-scan techniques were utilized to describe the presence of voids arising from the two different processing parameters. Further, to determine the influence of voids on impact behavior, the fabricated +45 degrees/90 degrees/-45 degrees composite samples were subjected to low velocity impacts. The tests show impact properties like peak load and energy to peak load registering higher values for the lower void-bearing case where as the total energy, energy for propagation and ductility indexes were higher for the higher void-bearing ones. Fractographic analysis showed that higher void-bearing samples display lower number of separation of layers in the laminate. These and other results are described and discussed in this report.
