"Radiodiskurssin kontekstualisointi prosodisin keinoin. Aineisto koostuu radio-ohjelmista, joissa puhuu viisi suurta ranskalaista 1900-luvun filosofia: Gaston Bachelard, Albert Camus, Michel Foucault, Maurice Merleau-Ponty ja Jean-Paul Sartre. Ohjelmat on lähetetty eri radiokanavilla Ranskassa vuosina 1948–1973.

Pro gradu- tutkielmassani tarkastelen suomi-ranska kaksikielisyyden kehittymistä perheissä, joissa vanhemmilla on eri äidinkieli. Avainsanat: Kaksikielisyys, kieltenoppiminen, bilinguisme, acquisition des langues, couple mixte

In complement activation, Factor H (FH) and C4b-binding protein (C4bp) are the key regulators that prevent the complement cascade from attacking host tissues. Some bacteria may bind and deposit these regulators on their own surfaces and thus provide themselves with an efficient means to avoid complement activation. In consequence, bacteria resist complement-mediated lysis and opsonin-dependent phagocytosis. This study has demonstrated that Y. enterocolitica, similar to many other pathogens, recruits both FH and C4bp to its surface to ensure protection against the complement-mediated killing. YadA and Ail, the most crucial serum resistance factors of Y.enterocolitica, mediate the binding of FH and C4bp. FH - YadA interaction involves multiple higher structural motifs on the YadA stalk and the short consensus repeats (SCRs) of the entire polypeptide chain of FH. The Ail binding site on FH has been located to SCRs 6 and 7. The binding site for FH on Ail, however, remains undetermined. Both YadA- and Ail-bound regulators display full cofactor activity for FI-mediated cleavage of C3b/C4b. FH/C4bp-binding characteristics do, however, differ between YadA and Ail. In addition, Ail captures the regulators only in the absence of blocking lipopolysaccharide O-antigen and outer core, whereas YadA binds FH/C4bp independent of the presence of other surface factors Independent of mode of binding, however, YadA and Ail provide Y. enterocolitica a means to avoid complement-mediated lysis, enhancing chances for the bacteria to survive in the host during various phases of infection.

The purpose of this study is to analyse the development and understanding of the idea of consensus in bilateral dialogues among Anglicans, Lutherans and Roman Catholics. The source material consists of representative dialogue documents from the international, regional and national dialogues from the 1960s until 2006. In general, the dialogue documents argue for agreement/consensus based on commonality or compatibility. Each of the three dialogue processes has specific characteristics and formulates its argument in a unique way. The Lutheran-Roman Catholic dialogue has a particular interest in hermeneutical questions. In the early phases, the documents endeavoured to describe the interpretative principles that would allow the churches to together proclaim the Gospel and to identify the foundation on which the agreement in the church is based. This investigation ended up proposing a notion of basic consensus , which later developed into a form of consensus that seeks to embrace, not to dismiss differences (so-called differentiated consensus ). The Lutheran-Roman Catholic agreement is based on a perspectival understanding of doctrine. The Anglican-Roman Catholic dialogue emphasises the correctness of interpretations. The documents consciously look towards a common future , not the separated past. The dialogue s primary interpretative concept is koinonia. The texts develop a hermeneutics of authoritative teaching that has been described as the rule of communion . The Anglican-Lutheran dialogue is characterised by an instrumental understanding of doctrine. Doctrinal agreement is facilitated by the ideas of coherence, continuity and substantial emphasis in doctrine. The Anglican-Lutheran dialogue proposes a form of sufficient consensus that considers a wide set of doctrinal statements and liturgical practices to determine whether an agreement has been reached to the degree that, although not complete , is sufficient for concrete steps towards unity. Chapter V discusses the current challenges of consensus as an ecumenically viable concept. In this part, I argue that the acceptability of consensus as an ecumenical goal is based not only the understanding of the church but more importantly on the understanding of the nature and function of the doctrine. The understanding of doctrine has undergone significant changes during the time of the ecumenical dialogues. The major shift has been from a modern paradigm towards a postmodern paradigm. I conclude with proposals towards a way to construct a form of consensus that would survive philosophical criticism, would be theologically valid and ecumenically acceptable.

Austria and Finland are persistently referred to as the “success stories” of post-1945 European history. Notwithstanding their different points of departure, in the course of the Cold War both countries portrayed themselves as small and neutral border-states in the world dictated by superpower politics. By the 1970s, both countries frequently ranked at the top end in various international classifications regarding economic development and well-being in society. This trend continues today. The study takes under scrutiny the concept of consensus which figures centrally in the two national narratives of post-1945 success. Given that the two domestic contexts as such only share few direct links with one another and are more obviously different than similar in terms of their geographical location, historical experiences and politico-cultural traditions, the analogies and variations in the anatomies of the post-1945 “cultures of consensus” provide an interesting topic for a historical comparative and cross-national examination. The main research question concerns the identification and analysis of the conceptual and procedural convergence points of the concepts of the state and consensus. The thesis is divided into six main chapters. After the introduction, the second chapter presents the theoretical framework in more detail by focusing on the key concepts of the study – the state and consensus. Chapter two also introduces the comparative historical and cross-national research angles. Chapter three grounds the key concepts of the state and consensus in the historical contexts of Austria and Finland by discussing the state, the nation and democracy in a longer term comparative perspective. The fourth and fifth chapter present case studies on the two policy fields, the “pillars”, upon which the post-1945 Austrian and Finnish cultures of consensus are argued to have rested. Chapter four deals with neo-corporatist features in the economic policy making and chapter five discusses the building up of domestic consensus regarding the key concepts of neutrality policies in the 1950s and 1960s. The study concludes that it was not consensus as such but the strikingly intense preoccupation with the theme of domestic consensus that cross-cut, in a curiously analogous manner, the policy-making processes studied. The main challenge for the post-1945 architects of Austrian and Finnish cultures of consensus was to find strategies and concepts for consensus-building which would be compatible with the principles of democracy. Discussed at the level of procedures, the most important finding of the study concerns the triangular mechanism of coordination, consultation and cooperation that set into motion and facilitated a new type of search for consensus in both post-war societies. In this triangle, the agency of the state was central, though in varying ways. The new conceptions concerning a small state’s position in the Cold War world also prompted cross-nationally perceivable willingness to reconsider inherited concepts and procedures of the state and the nation. At the same time, the ways of understanding the role of the state and its relation to society remained profoundly different in Austria and Finland and this basic difference was in many ways reflected in the concepts and procedures deployed in the search for consensus and management of domestic conflicts. This study is part of the joint project "The Genetic Epidemiology and Molecular Genetics of schizophrenia in Finland" between the Departments of Mental Health and Alcohol Research, and Molecular Medicine at the National Public Health Institute. In the study, we utilized three nationwide health care registers: 1) the Hospital Discharge Register, 2) the Free Medication Register, and 3) the Disability Pension Register, plus the National Population Register, in order to identify all patients with schizophrenia born from 1940 to 1976 (N=33,731) in Finland, and their first degree-relatives. 658 patients with at least one parent born in a homogeneous isolate in northeastern Finland were identified, as well as 4904 familial schizophrenia patients with at least two affected siblings from the whole country. The comparison group was derived from the Health 2000 Study. We collected case records and reassessed the register diagnosis. Were contacted the isolate patients and a random sample of patients from the whole country to make diagnostic clinical interviews and to assess the negative and positive symptoms and signs of schizophrenia. In addition to these patients, we interviewed siblings who were initially healthy according to the Hospital Discharge Register. Of those with a register diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizoaffective or schizophreniform disorder, 69% received a record-based consensus diagnosis and 63% an interview-based diagnosis of schizophrenia. Patients with schizophrenia having first-degree relatives with psychotic disorder had more severe affective flattening and alogia than those who were the only affected individuals in their family. The novel findings were: 1) The prevalence of schizophrenia in the isolate was relatively high based on register (1.5%), case record (0.9-1.3%), and interview (0.7-1.2%) data. 2) Isolate patients, regardless of their familial loading for schizophrenia, had less delusions and hallucinations than the whole country familial patients, which may be related to the genetic homogeneity in the isolate. This phenotype encourages the use of endophenotypes in genetic analyses instead of diagnoses alone. 3) The absence of register diagnosis does not confirm that siblings are healthy, because 7.7% of siblings had psychotic symptoms already before the register diagnoses were identified in 1991. For genetic research, the register diagnosis should therefore be reassessed using either a structured interview or a best- estimate case note consensus diagnosis. Structured clinical interview methods need be considered also in clinical practice.

Relying on Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology of perception and on Mircea Eliade's works on the Sacred and the Profane, this study explores the river as a perceptual space and as the sacred Center in a cosmic vision of the world in twelve of Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio's fictional works, from The Interrogation (1963) to Revolutions (2003). In the first chapter, after introducing the field of study, I discuss the relation between the radical subjectivity and the evasiveness of perceiving subjects in Le Clézio's fiction. Next are some thoughts on the relation between Merleau-Ponty's and Le Clézio's ideas. The second chapter studies the river as an experience in the text, first as a topographical space, then as a sound world. The investigations move on to its water as a visual and a tactile phenomenon. Then follows the human use of the river, the (absence of) baths, and the river as a traveling space. The chapter closes with the study of the metaphorical use of the word, occurring mainly in urban space and for phenomena in the sky. The third chapter is organized around the river as the Center of the world in a religious cosmogony, where the river represents the origin of the world and of the human race. The core analysis shows how the middle of the river is a symbolic space of a new beginning. As a sacred space, the river abolishes time as the object of contemplation and as relative immobility from the point of view of a person drifting downstream. The functions of a new beginning and of abolition of time are combined in the symbolic immersions in the water. Finally, the dissertation explores other symbolical spaces, such as the unknown destination of the drift, and the river as the Center of a utopia. The chapter closes with the existential agony as a result of the elimination of the Center in the urban environment. In the final chapter, the river is compared to other watercourses : the creek, the brook and the rapids. The river is more of a spatial entity, whereas the actual water is more important in the smaller watercourses. The river is more common than the other watercourses as a topographical element in the landscape, whereas the minor watercourses invite the characters to a closer contact with their element, in immersions and in drinking their water. Finally, the work situates the rivers in a broader context of different fictional spaces in Le Clézio's text.
